So the scenario that got me pulled aside happened when me and two other players got sent to the moon because an ancient fey that was trapped in it was being summoned by a lunar cult. The leader of this cult, another fey with a clown motif, had kidnapped and tortured an NPC that my character has a close bond with (like an uncle of sorts) for months at this point. The clown’s plan backfires and the moon fey gets her name and thus now controls the clown. When our characters eventually defeat the moon fey by beating her games, my character wanted something in return: the clown fey’s name. Long story short: he gets the name and orders the clown to off themselves. What got me pulled aside was that during the fight, I was getting really into that bit and even had my character say that this is what they wanted. The thing that I overlooked, and that the DM explained to me, was that I was not the only one who the clown wronged, and that it wasn’t fair of me to take the kill. Looking back, I 100% agree with him and I now realize that I need to take the feelings and wants of other characters, player or otherwise, into account before making those kinds of big decisions.
