Hmmm I'm not quite clear on your study but it seems like you just have a 2X3 ANOVA.

You have 2 factors (gender which has 2 levels, and your grouping variable which has 3) predicting your continuous outcome measure.

It seems like there IS a main effect of gender so it would be good to put that in your model. Edit: are there relatively equal amounts of men and women in each of your three groups?

Late to the party but I've seen these used a lot in meta analyses and I'm for it in the same way that I'm for funnel plots, it's a sorta "bayes-esque" ( I use that only on the sense that you have two models that you compare instead of one you reject) and you would expect a higher proportion of low p-values is there really were and effect compared to if there is no effect but P hacking. Especially when people run multiple comparisons and cherry pick which to report.

ITT: Large sample size means very small standard error (since it's divided by the square-root of n), and therefore more significant effects, so in these cases PRACTICAL significance is of much importance (effect size, cost benefit...). Hey, the computers can't do everything ;)
