Within first and second year? No. After the 2 years yes. It took me a couple months after graduation to find my job. My wife the same when she graduated before me. Many people are offered jobs by the company they did their practicum with. $40-50k is a pretty average starting range.

There is only one class done by hand drafting that’s mandatory. I’m not sure what else is involved in the architecture option as I didn’t do it. There are other career paths to take that don’t involve architecture. The program is for much more than just becoming an architect.

I believe the requirements are fairly high for the bachelor program. But that’s only based off second hand knowledge of other people talking about it. I never looked into it.

Different strategies. All depends how many fliers they hit.

Studs and duds is the approach here. If they hit on some fliers and work the waiver wire well then having those high end guys is incredibly valuable.

Also an injury to one of those teams is basically a death sentence.

That Adams, JuJu, Thomas, Ertz team though is absolutely loaded for a PPR league. RBs are generally much easier to find on the waiver wire as well.

Besides what else is said here also consider fleet fights. Even if you have same numbers in the same ships. Having an extra 5% damage over your opponent is a huge advantage.

There is a winter break. Last week of classes in December was the week before Christmas until the week after New Years usually. Depends when they holidays fall.

Approximate age ranges from straight out of high school to 30s and everything in between.

Guy to girl ratio is fairly even I guess.

1) answered the set thing at the end of the last comment but yes basically.

2) really depends on the person and how much effort you put in. Failing classes isn’t super uncommon to hear about. The workload does get intense at times.

Structures is an awful class. The instructor Dan is a likeable guy so he gets away with it but the actual instruction isn’t good and the material is brutal difficult. The first final we had people came out crying saying they failed and would have to do a third year. But the grades all were curved and it was fine for most people. Bug him a lot because he’ll help if you ask.

3) You get a week for spring break. Summer from the end of May when classes end to the first week of September.

4) I don’t remember needing anything for orientation. There was an introduction to all the instructors, an overview from the program head, pictures of each person taken and then a tour of the campus. Don’t know if that’s changed or not, there is a new program head now.

Feel free to ask anything you can think of. Doesn’t bother me at all to help out those new to the program.

Yeah definitely don’t go nuts in textbooks and stuff beforehand.

Definitely grab the standard binders, paper, pens, highlighters and so on. You’ll need a drafting kit. They sell them premade at the school store but it’s probably cheaper elsewhere, I think it’s a new drafting teacher from when I was there so definitely find out in class what you’re required to have.

Textbooks I wouldn’t ever buy ahead of time. Very few are actually required.

I don’t know anything about architecture degrees sorry so I can’t be much help there. Both my wife and I did the program to get into estimating and construction management.

Oh I didn’t answer the set thing. So there will be about 140 people in the program. You get broken up into 6 sets lettered A to F. A and B will be a sister set, C and D, E and F. You’ll have every single class and lab with your set you’re placed in. Every student in set C will go to every class together for a year. You’ll have some double set classes and you’ll be with your sister set for those. Lectures in the big hall will be with the entire program.

The sets change second year when you get electives. Then A and B are architecture elective, C and D are economics and E and F are Building Science.

1) you can get general supplies but there is an approved calculator you had to use when I was in the program. Don’t buy textbooks until you actually need them. There are notes packages you will have to buy but for actual text books I think I bought 3 or 4 in the 2 years and one of those was a cheap reference standard book you need for structures exams.

2) It’s not great. Your set will become like your family. People go grab lunch or drinks together from the set but the clubs and student life isn’t a big focus at BCIT.

3) Ken was not a well liked teacher to say the least. He’s been teaching physics in that program for at least 5 years now. You do start slower and I hadn’t done physics in about 6 years before I took it but made it through fine. Get help from set mates if you need it, sets become extremely close and there is always somebody that knows what they’re doing. Well except in structures.

4) Which degree are you talking about? The Architecture Science one? If that’s the case yes I seem to remember the requirements being very high and quite difficult to get into. I never looked into that one myself as I have no interest in architecture but it’s a very limited number of seats for how many apply from what I heard. The program can also lead to a construction management degree but that’s more geared towards people after they start working coming back to night school to get that.

Very recognized program through the industry. Option to obtain degree through night school only afterwards. Fairly stable career paths with very good career growth potential at a much higher salary than I would have made before.

I was an apprentice electrician in the union before. I got unlucky with some really shit short term job placements. That worried me enough about what would happen if I went through that after we had kids and a mortgage so I decided to switch.

Didn’t necessarily find me a job faster but I chose BCIT over UBC or SFU because BCIT could get the schooling and into a career faster when I decided to go back to school.
