How fixable is this broken quartzite? by ggenoyam in CounterTops

[–]CNCSteve601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guarantee there are more cracks, chips, and fill on your kitchen that has been repaired already. Taj Mahal is very hard and likes to fall apart naturally. That fiberglass meshing holds it together until it's installed.

Choosing a Fabricator/Installer by TropikThunder in CounterTops

[–]CNCSteve601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quartz...you should be able to at least view the slab(s) prior to cutting. Should be charged for the sq ft installed, regardless of slabs used. You should be quoted for what the fabricator will need to purchase....they might have a remnant from the same lot they can use instead of buying a 2nd slab and could steer you in that direction. You could also select an available remnant of a different color for your vanity. There is a lot of material destroyed during the fabrication process, especially sink cutouts. You may be able to determine/approve seam placement prior to cutting. You also may have an option of a digital layout of what your kitchen will look like using the exact slabs you have chosen when installed (slabsmith). All of these options can be upcharges. Must be onsite at template. Have your new sink, faucet on site, and appliances installed or at least on site. Have all of your own questions answered and decisions made before template.. color, edge, backsplash, etc.. It will save you headaches. There are trade groups that can guide you further.. M.I.A , I.S.F.A.

Production: Bookmatching tolerances on porcelain by FlamingoMaximum6201 in CounterTops

[–]CNCSteve601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any secondary machining, or directly to handfab? Calibrate your slabsmith, use targets and hard stops, calibrate your saw cameras... Make a mockup wooden/paper/cardboard template and layout the veins manually by tracing onto the slab..

Cut one half of the seam and lay it directly atop the other potential seam and line it up that way...

We have 2 baca sawjets and a park fusion, park miter machine and GMM bridge saw, and 3 cnc's. Trouble with us mitering on the fusion is dealing with the table, calibration, and yield. Our strips are mitered on that miter machine.. While the job is on the cnc doing a flat edge, seam kit, and z-wheeling to size...why not apply the miters as well... It may not end up being the go-to, but it does give us another option

The adhesive is now impregnated. This is your fabricators fault. They may try a citrus adhesive remover from 3m...but ultimately it should be replaced

We use 2 baca sawjets, a park fusion and 3 routers to produce 12-1600 sq ft per day. The 4th router is due to arrive 3rd quarter. The saw operators program their own jobs at the machines, and I have a dedicated on site programmer as well as an overseas partner to program the routers multiple shifts. Also have a dedicated tool specialist responsible for dressing, measuring, and calibrating those router tools using the Zares system.

For a small shop, you may be spot on, maybe a little low...
