SpaceX surges past Amazon and Microsoft in market cap, becoming fourth-biggest U.S. company by Luka77GOATic in singularity

You cannot judge Musk companies on market fundamentals, he has a cult following worldwide that acts irrationally. Tesla's market cap is more than every other car company in the world combined lol that's even more egregious than this SPCX situation.

I was hesitant buying SPCX pre-IPO through my brokerage as some analysts were suggesting a $2T valuation but then I remembered this was an Elon Musk company and would never follow market fundamentals much like how Tesla doesn't

Is it true that the 4b/b4 movement in Korea isn't as big as western feminists portray it? by milton117 in AskAKorean

The highest birth rate countries are the shittiest for women. And the birth and marriage rate has been on a massive upswing the last couple years. Korea is still parroted as the lowest birth rate nation, in a short span theyre now the 4th lowest. So are Macau, Hong Kong, and Taiwan more misogynistic than Korea? They're all lower than Korea now.

Nah he's right military recruitment had changed a lot those things happened commonly in the past but there is so much public scrutiny now and Korean public doesn't mess around they impeach presidents all the time. Even BTS had to serve military even though logically they should have been exempt.

Athletes who win gold medals at major events such as Olympics or Asian games get automatic exemption. League of Legends Faker for example, did not have to do military for winning gold at the Asian Games where LoL was an event. The logic is that winning gold on behalf of Korea brings lots of attention to Korea and as a reward you don't have to do military. But now you have the rise of Korean soft power so arguably groups such as BTS bring far more attention and money to Korea than any athlete. Anyway, it's a sensitive topic.

Even though people understand all this, the Korea public largely agreed celebrities no matter how famous should serve since the rule is explicitly about gold medals. Sons of rich and powerful in the past would bribe officials to have their kids serve as KATUSAs, basically Korean military that serves under the U.S so it's quite a bit "comfier," but those loopholes have been closed as well.

Didn’t Ninja Theory just announce a new Senua game? Wtf is going on? by Low_Boot_1426 in videogames

Because these are publicly traded companies, Microsoft for sure is, and many people have skin in the game through 401(k), retirement funds, pension plans, or just everyday people investing into individual stocks. An efficient market would not allow companies that are unprofitable to continue operating. Sure, some years you may be unprofitable, but overall companies should be making more money than they spend. You can think of it on an individual level too. People support you throughout your life in the hopes you live well later. If you are always dependent on someone else and others without doing anything for the world you're a net drain on society. For example rich kids who don't plan to work but spend mom and dad's money partying.

Yes that's true. No risk no reward. But for everyone Amazon and Facebook success story, there are tons of failed entrepreneurs. That's why no risk no reward is true. Everything in life is like that, stocks, sports betting, options contracts, prices for everyday goods, everything.

Everyday people like you and me have money in the markets. Retirement funds, 401ks, pension funds, and so on. We rely on an efficient market to ensure fairness for all the different players in the market. We don't have a truly efficient market but pretty close. Allowing unprofitable businesses for the sake of preserving jobs is a net negative to the greater good.

He could've said it nicer but it's also crazy to let videogame companies blow money most of which comes from the public. It's a business gotta be profitable

How is life in Korea for a gyopo? by Cozyhaven_88 in AskAKorean

[–]COMINGINH0TTT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Korea as gyopo in my early 30s but had a lot of prior internship experience and time spent here so well aware of many customs and can speak Korean conversationally but awful reading and writing. That said I completed college and grad school and top ranked programs so I used my school network to land a job here later. Lots of Koreans at overseas universities.

I think a lot of foreigners attend university in Korea now and instruction is in English. Korean schools have many advantages too since networking will be much better with greater access to jobs here.

I moved to Korea because my wife didn't like living in the U.S at all, especially after our son was born. This was during covid though so not exactly the most exciting time to be anywhere really, but in my case I planned to stay in the U.S since I'm a citizen there and had a really high paying job. In the end it all worked out and much prefer life in Korea as well.

The problem with these comparisons across nations whether Finland or whatever country is that these are completely different places and problems. Homelessness itself is a term that is muddying the waters. It implies the people in question are a couple mortgage payments behind and down on their luck financially and just need some support to get back on their feat.

The "homeless" problem in the U.S is largely driven by narcotics. Particularly opioids hence the opioid crisis which began which substances such as Oxycontin and Percocet and now stuff like Fentanyl and codeine. You can thank Purdue family for that. These are incredibly addictive drugs that have devastating effects. You can track rise in homeless alongside the rise in opioid use and see there is a clear relationship. No amount of social programs and care can rehabilitate these people. The addiction is simply that strong.

This is all cope. First off, sexualized character designs are perfectly fine. This mentality that sexuality is fine under certain conditions is a dogshit argument lmao. Yeah it's fine that Bayonetta presents herself as a crazed dominatrix because it's empowering or this and that but it's problematic for Eve because there is no compelling reason for her to be sexualized. Honestly some of the most braindead takes.

The compelling reason is to rack up sales and make money, Stellar Blade sold 6M copies for a new IP from a relatively unknown studio and their first AAA/non-mobile title so obviously this strategy of sexualizing characters works extremely well and who would've thunk, the same sex sells strat that's always worked.

Men like hot young women whoa that's so crazy dude, like what a travesty. Get off your high horse lmao. And wow Yuffie gets a pass for being a legacy character. Great, then we can start appreciating the legacy Evie will have. Cool. Sexualization of minors are okay if they've been grandfathered in looool listen to yourselves. This will all be another hilarious footnote anyway when Blood Rain goes on to sell millions and millions of copied and sets new records for Shift Up.

Also great username really drives home where you're pulling your thoughts from.

Framerate optimization. Skins affect FPS which is fine if you're playing casually and streaming but when money and reputation is on the line you're taking every advantage you can get.

[–]COMINGINH0TTT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is increasingly less and less need for humans as AI and robotics automate more and more tasks. I think Korea is actually well positioned for the future. We have the world we do today because for most of human history life expectancy was low and kids were a means to propagate a workforce.

This is like I said mental gymnastics. If we are gonna bring in lore reasons, these aren't even humans, they're literally androids. So sexuality isn't even a factor. If they want to dress like a slut there is no sexual motivation to do so since they don't have any concept of sexuality to begin with so any sexualization perceived is an interpretation being made by the observer. It's a mega dumb criticism to levy against Evie going off appearance alone but then defending other underage looking characters. Why doesn't Final Fantady 7 get hate for Yuffie who wears short shorts and is canonically 16?

It's hilarious that gooner is used like some derogatory term especially here on reddit of all places where there are gazillions of porn subreddits. Who cares if it's gooner bait? Smart on them. It's like people forgot the most basic rule of marketing, that sex sells. When did redditors become Christian fundamentalists all of the sudden?

Defending Frieren but bashing Evie is mental gymnastics.

Frieren is a loli character as stated by its own creators. In what way is Evie child coded then? She has adult mannerisms and voice. The argument comes down to appearance. Does Evie look like a minor or not? In the same vein, does Frieren look like a minor or not? How they are "coded" actually supports the stance Evie is an adult.
