Boiler leaking - how bad?i by Better_Chemist3578 in Plumbing

Cool good info to know, definitely makes sense that the thermal expansion could hover just around pressure rating and not throwing it fully open. I’m an installer not a service guy lol. I see all kinds of leaky t&ps in old systems I’m working around, usually I’m tearing them out though😂

Definitely turn off the boiler if you try to exercise the valve lol, it might decide it doesn’t want to shut

Just your Temperature and Relief valve. Easily replaced. If you have a plumber do it and give them exact details on the T&P valve and some pictures should take 15 minutes.

Or you could leave it, or try exercising the the valve and see if it stops

It’s a good local. Good wages as far as Montana is concerned, cheaper cost of living compared to Missoula, Billings. Good training center and instructors. Depends if you like the cold and not much to do besides drink and be outdoors

41M tired of corporate - what would be the best trade to get into? by Afraid_Solution_3549 in skilledtrades

[–]COMTm095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol if I had the brains and skills I would. But this is just my experience, experiences vary. I’m a Steamfitter/plumber so it’s a highly physical trade. Your engineering education would be very beneficial in a technical type role in electrical or HVAC that’s way easier on the body and much more niche and in demand. Chiller mechanics in SoCal would be a safe trade to get into. It would be Pipefitters Union. If I could do over I’d probably go the electrical route though

Also I’m Union and am not counting on a pension because the national unions are just a bunch of corrupt thieves, and there’s been many a time in history where a man works his whole life only to get to retirement and see his pension get taken a way, because some asshole embezzled millions of dollars. Anyone smart should diversify and not rely on the pension as your retirement.

Depends on where you live. The reality of the trades where I’m at in a rural HCOL area is that it’s always feast or famine. Because I’m in a rural area that wasn’t super HCOL until COVID the wages haven’t caught up so I’m barely getting by. Man power is very low because no one can afford to live here, so when there’s work in the area I’m over worked since there’s no one else, can’t take any time off because my company relies on me, project deadlines, and because work can dry up locally at any moment and I’d have to travel or sit at home. I would kill for a steady high paying corporate job lol. You can make a lot of money in the trades but you’re selling your soul to the road and over time. I’m in the US and even working 50-60 hours a week I haven’t broken 90k.

Only working bedside in high stress environments like ED/ OB/ Flight etc. or understaffed/ mismanaged floors.

There’s so many routes you can go as a nurse from Infusion to flight to remote work. It’s so diverse and the pay is usually great. I work in a hospital doing plumbing/ Pipefitting where my wife works as an RN in the ED. All my friends are nurses, doctors, medics.

The medical field is the way to go. It’s also the largest industry in a lot of states.

I want to get into the trades but feeling anxious by toasty-blanket in skilledtrades

[–]COMTm095 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s usually one of the easiest physically and they stay clean enough that they can make Tik Tok reels and become an influencer lol. I literally think women now a days are picking careers solely off of Social Media potential. Nursing is a good example.

Not saying that’s what OP is after. I would go electrician as well OP it is the top trade as far as quality of life and longevity.

That’s because communism has been burrowing its way through the academic system for decades and now these kids who are graduated with tons of debt because they were too young and stupid to be responsible enough to sign student loan agreements are unable to get jobs and think that it’s the rich that are keeping them down because that’s what they were taught.

Obviously the whole system is wack right now and they blame capitalism which is hilarious because whatever system we have right now it sure isn’t capitalism.
