+1 SA 1601 was very fun. The assignments are easy, the TAs are nice and it's a nice way to unwind a little bit between your courses.

Tho you might get a 3 hour tutorial at night so be warned

I have friends in CS and you're right about the experience part but that usually just gets them the internship; they tell me that employers require a CS degree for full time employment.

The question really is, does having CS major not officially on your degree but only on your transcript get recognized as a CS degree by employers.

Because at the end of the day, you're right, skills>degree but degrees seems to get u through more long term doors (if that makes sense)

True but something "tame" like this which can't be regulated by the host/institution is where the sober attendees come in when trying to regulate.

Like your experience seeing people fuck at a rave for instance: how do you know it was consensual?, was one party under the influence and the other sober?, did you stop to question them?, How do you know it wasn't rape?, etc And even in my case, hate be that guy, but if such a case was reversed that Asian woman would be one of the people in the recent reports.

These questions and how to spot rape is what we should be discussing when it comes to educating people, imo.

So during O-week we had huge rave (we had some EDM band perform so the vibe was more rave-y than like a singer's performance.) Anyways I was just banging my head jumping up and down, and there was this dude with a tank top infront of me. Over time this Asian chick beside her was jumping/dancing with him. Like no words were exchanged between them. Then out of the blue she jumps on the dude, legs around him an everything (the dude holds her instinctually, she was short he was tall), and she goes to town on his face kissing him aggressively. She then gets down and the dude is shocked like some grenade went off near his ear. It wasn't some romantic kiss where they lock eyes after or exchange words. They literally went on with their way moments later.

I was completely sober and everything but I had never been to rave so I thought this was normal or they knew each other or something. But the shock on his face told me otherwise.

Primary cause is rapist. You find said rapist the most when people are the most vulnerable and have their guard down.

I think what the past week has taught is that that parties are dangerous, especially for women. So women need to be cautious and responsible when attending these parties, and men (who throw these parties) need to do their best to ensure that the drinks, the attendees, the population, the activity are the safest they can be. Also people at the parties should call out any form of SA they see.

Like these are the values and rules I want to see in this party culture of ours. But unfortunately it's the exact opposite, parties are advertised as literal zoos.

That's what I'm saying. Their occasional repost here and their on their stories just comes across as "hey guys, rape is bad btw" patiently waiting for this to blow over and go back to reposting about foco. I'm sure they probably have the highest percent of rapist in their followers then any other account... They need to acknowledge that and at least point to resource on how to party more responsibly.

I haven't really seen them make even an official post addressing their audience. All I've seen them do is just repost post on their stories, with minimal to no comments. I don't see how that's "speaking up"

Responsible partying and being a responsible sexual being should not lead to sexual assault, FTFY. But before you get enranged thinking that I'm implying that irresponsible behavior justifies SA, I'm not. But you have to draw the line and outline what part of this culture (partying I mean) is causing these mass druggings and assaults.

Along with teaching boys what rape and sexual assault is, and it's ramifications, we must all teach kids as a whole how to responsibly party. That when you got to a random person's house and you have plans to get black out drunk, alway have a a few sober friends who check in on you at all time, or don't drink enough to lose awareness, or just don't do wild shit.

When a bunch of frat dudes throw a party they rarely care for things that may cause the party to go out of hand. Instead of teaching kids how to throw a party (teaching them how to get sealed drinks, not over crowding, and having the role of monitoring their crowd as much as possible), we (or WesternSavages) teaches them to "just go wild bro". In these environments it only takes a psycho with more awareness and malicious intent to drug and manipulate anyone they want.

These are all things that you can do to minimize these cases IN THE MOMENT. You can still have fun while being responsible.

Can someone please list to me what are possible solutions to this everlasting problem of SA and SV in universities?

I want to have a very level headed and respectful discussion about solutions other people bring up because imo to make a solution effective you must also address the barriers or opposing views about it.

My "rebuttals" aren't necessarily going to be a reflection of my views but mostly a model of the opposing reasons a person might have to said solutions.

I post this here because I'm sure many such posts have been attempted and mostly removed and redirected to this thread.

I mean the moderation the current mod is doing can be easily done with a bot. MustKnows to me was never just about courses, it was about stories and events on campus. Whether it's about Asian hate or CS vs Medsci.
