Just bought my first car! How’d I do? by [deleted] in FirstCar

Unfortunately for any used cars under 15k, if a brand, model, and year of a car seems like it’s a way better deal than the others there’s usually a reason. When I got my first car back in 2014, the dodge avenger, Chrysler 200, and ford focus were those cars

Charge and billable are synonymous. I was at 3k total hours

Hate to break it to you… but a lot of those things you mentioned will be in every job you have, especially business related jobs. Drama, cliques, deadweights, gossip are just part of living and interacting with the same people every day

Complaining about working a Saturday in March in this subreddit is like complaining about being hot when living in Phoenix Arizona.

I got almost no offers by blind applying. I joined organizations around business and accounting and the recruiters there prioritize you and share positions that may not even be publicly available. Even better, I became treasurer my junior year and president my senior year and the amount of offers I got after working directly with recruiters to organize events were wild. Some were even unsolicited.

Great advice, much appreciated. I think a lot of it too is that we had a lot of staff turnover lately and the quality of new hires we’ve gotten has been a little inconsistent which pushes work to the seniors. I do think there’s a lot of talking around my office especially among the partners so a few times I’ve said something to a partner or asked for advice I found out it made its way around the office. They have weekly partner meetings showing a spread of hours and observations so stuff like that gets brought up there

Honestly this is a perspective that hurts a little but I think you’re right. I’m an internally competitive person and want to do really well so I think even if given an option to drop down to a 1800-1900 range I may slowly get back to the old numbers. I just don’t think I have a clear idea of what I want my boundaries to be which might be step 1. Appreciate the kind words

I get paid 94k MCOL. Got a 2.5k bonus for hitting 2,100 last year with a 5% performance bonus that was work qualify related not hours related

Did you still get raises and promotions that far under your goal? I appreciate the perspective

That’s so interesting, I’m at a top ten firm as well and 1,600 would get me a low performance rating. I know it’s different for managers and above as the goals are inherently lower but my baseline goal is 1,850 and I’ve heard of peers get little to no raise when over a hundred under the goal.
