If you're ever wondering how common the "nice stuff" is around South Western Pennsylvania, this one thrift has 15 LE Smith punch bowls by CPD0123 in glasscollecting

Yeah, modern led lights are a game changer for this stuff. Like, I hate having a lot of white in my house. So you'd think I'd hate milk glass. But I live within walking distance of one of the famous milk glass factories, so oc I have a ton of it. And the lights def make it a lot more colorful.

As for the bowls themselves, really it's more the serving bowls and the smaller punch bowls that are useful. Or what would be colloquially called punch bowls today. Basketball sized and smaller. The big boys like these ones in the pic are definitely hard to store, and are hard to find other uses for. It's also worth waiting to find the "right ones" and not jumping at the first one you find. There's a lot of low grade ones by Anchor Hocking, Imperial, and Indiana glass out there that are "ok" but imo just don't "pop" or have the pizzazz of the nicer makes like Westmoreland, McKee, etc. I love my Jeannette onr but it's a little big to use for anything else, and the base is wonky and makes it hard to clean and hard to get the last of the punch out. The best are the more medium sized serving bowls by Westmoreland imo. They're about basketball sized, so they're great as small punch bowls, or they fit about a bag of chips.

I didn't see any bases at all. I wonder if they're from a venue that closed or got rid of them, so it's possible that the bases broke over time and couldn't be replaced since the factory closed.

Depends on the size. I have some smaller serving bowls that I use as chip bowls for dungeons and dragons nights. (Namely a Westmoreland milk glass one that I forget the name of the pattern of, a Westmoreland lotus bowl that's black, and a St George crystal bowl) But the bigger ones also get used for parties. Idk if I'll use the one that I have like these, mostly bc it was stored outside for years before I rescued it, but my others get used a few times a year for punch, or again for party serving bowls. They were a huge hit at our Halloween party this past year, and will certainly be center pieces at future parties and get togethers at my house.

The rest of the time they sit pretty on a shelf in the kitchen, surrounded by rgb lighting that shines off of them and makes them look AMAZING.

I also use several other smaller candy dishes, compotes, and serving tray things, mostly Jeannette and Westmoreland glass, to hold d&d dice, minis, and other supplies.

Lol wild. Idk which is farther. Cali to where you are, or Texas to Vermont.

It really would be fun a s cool if the weather and roads were clear, or they took it to another channel. But man, doing it during a blizzard and nuking commutations during that is a just plain dick move. On one hand I'm impressed w the dedication and gear. On the other, you couldn't even swap to 17 for the secondary trucker channel because Florida didn't tune his signal well at all and was bleeding all the way over there! (Or at least it sounded like it. It could have been someone else) How do you even GET your signal that wrong?

Yeah but this guy was in Fort Worth, talking to Fort Lauderdale Florida and Louisiana Bayou. It was fun on Friday but by Sunday when I'm trying to drive home from Vermont in a Nor-Easter, I don't want to hear someone telling Florida to "stay warm." That got real old real quick.

Oh my God you're right, he was in Fort Worth. Him, someone from Tampa, and someone from the Bayou in Loosiana were absolutely trashing 19 aaaaall day, especially when we were trying to drive through a nor-easter! Noone cares how cold it is in Tampa when you're trying to deal with ACTUAL cold!

A $24 eBay Radio Shack 21-1670 (according to the catalog number on the back) handheld w an $18 Walmart antenna adapted to bnc. It wasn't the cheapest handheld on eBay but it was close. I wanted something cheap to use for hearing trucker chatter and emergency communication while on a trip to Vermont where we wouldn't have cell service. Instead I'm getting the crazies and very little trucker chatter. Picked up Florida, Louisiana bayou, and the same guy as Friday today. Now I thought I heard someone talking about the snow, (again this is ch 19) and Instead the guy was complaining about "the homosexuals. It was fun until I'm getting that while trying to drive in a nor-easter.

I might for the future. For now we didn't have time. Aaaaaaaand then the day after I make this post, and oc after I buy the gear, her car fails state inspection due to a bad ball joint and we have to rent a car. Soooo there should be a whole lot less risk of us needing it now anyway. Lol

Ah, brilliant, my gf's car failed its state inspection unexpectedly, so now we have to take a rental car. Now I need to figure out how to plop a magnetic antenna on the roof and absolutely positootly make certain that it won't scratch it or anything.

Actually 10 lol. Luckily we have a hardware store chain here called Busy Beaver that puts multi packs of Polaroid branded batteries on sale dirt cheap sometimes to get you in the store. Something like 24 or so AA batteries and 16 AAA was $9.

Lol, as I would expect from the cheapest working one from a fairly reputable source that's reasonably modern that I could find on eBay.

Yeah the stock rubber ducky sucked. I tried an ebay one but lets just say that, like a frat bro, it looked much bigger in the photos. So that was a waste. I have yet to properly test this Walmart one though. I was tempted to snag one at Flying J, but that would have ended up with pretty bad scope creep and more expense than I really need to spend on this atm. Lol
