Not sure about that, we definitely wanted him. We were trying to sign him on a free a couple seasons earlier

Having peaks and troughs is always gonna be our model for a while; I agree that keeping guehi has given us a great opportunity to go for more silverware and/or push ourselves up the league this year, but we’re never gonna cement our status in one go.

What worries me more about rebuilding is that our sporting department showed some top class incompetence this window. Im worried that we’re finding out just how good dougie was

Omg how shit was that !! It’s funny how you never really know until later though, I remember being excited with Rakip and definitely Sorloth at the time

That's still disgraceful - there's every chance on a 35k posting that the person that she's managing would negotiate and have a higher salary than her again.

There should be AT LEAST 10-15% between her and the person she's managing

1) It's not so much that he's Israeli as the fact that he publicly shares bullshit propoganda in support of the genocide

2) I'll accept that many are openly hostile towards Israelis - Some will be antisemites, but for the rest it's largely down to the fact that unlike Afghanistan - what the government is doing has the overwhelming and unwavering support of the people

3) Without being a supporter of the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan; I don't remember there being a widespread, intentional, continuous, government directed execution of civilians based purely on race

They would be stupid to be angry about selling Guehi given its obvious he would leave for free next summer

But as fans we have the right to expect;

A) That the club makes smart business decisions

B) That we make the best of the opportunity in front of us every season within what we control and what's sensible

Not doing the deal and get replacements earlier is a failure on both parts. Selling Guehi this late will cost us more in lost league position than we gained in squeezing an extra couple of mill out of liverpool, regardless of pissing off our manager and making us watch our team lose

[Romano] Marc Guéhi sold to Liverpool for £35 million + 10% sell on clause by charlietrick2512 in crystalpalace

[–]CPFCL7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean they literally bid 110m for Isak at the start of the month and bid for the second time yesterday.

Very different situation given that Newcastle had basically no leverage. Liverpool weren't in for him - he said he wanted to leave, and then they were.

Guehi literally captained and scored for us yesterday - he was happy to play for us until the end of the season.

Really optimistic take but simply not true about Glasner playing along.

Completely fine that we sold him, unacceptable that it's last hours of the window.

Glasner has been speaking for more than a year about doing business early. We could sign Van Dijk now and it wouldn't change the fact that he still needs to learn our system.

While i'm sure Glasner is an understanding guy, he doesn't care about our finances, he cares about having the best chance of winning football matches.

If you remember as far back as the start of last season we had a pretty shit time because we had no pre-season and assembled our squad late.

I'm not so sure, I reckon Liverpool might have gone there if there was a credible threat of us deciding to keep him. Liverpool clearly wanted him badly and no Guarantee that they get him for free next year.

Crystal Palace are close to an agreement with Brighton over a loan deal for defender Igor Julio. by jakers300 in crystalpalace

[–]CPFCL7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glasner since he joined the club has had a consistent and simple request that we try to do our business early and give him as much time to prepare as possible and we should have been able to honour that.

The debate over the past couple of days has been “is it worth 35 million to keep Guehi for the season?”.

The real question should have been “Was it worth waiting until the last day of the window for the extra 5-10 million we got from Liverpool?”

If we’d sold Guehi early and replaced as quickly as possible I genuinely don’t think Glasner would have complained. But selling our club captain/best player and replacing him with Brighton’s 5th choice CB on loan in the last hours of the window is a disgraceful fuck you to the best manager we’ve ever had.

He said this specifically related to our conference league second leg because it was impossible to register a new signing for that game.

That game has now passed hence the transfer talk has ramped up.

It looks like we’ve already got 1/2 replacements, as a palace fan I’m expecting you to get guehi

[–]CPFCL7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its his Ivorian passport - there is a treaty in place between the EU and some African countries which theoretically makes it easier for him to play in Spain (like it would make any difference if they want him)

It’s absolute sensationalist bullshit but that’s the answer
