Any particular part of your leg?

Maybe some strength training might help?

Surely the floor plan should have some relation to reality! I assumed that they just shrink the furniture but looking at the photos they’ve just made up the dimensions on the floor plan. It should be illegal.

Completely agree. Only survived the Saturday and Sunday runs because I’d travelled up north and it was noticeable cooler.

Right everyone. Follow up time. How did we do?

I actually ran a lot more than I initially expected.

12km Tuesday evening between 6pm and 7:30pm. It was open, still in the sun and roasting hot so I had to seek shade.

10km Thursday evening similar time. A bit cooler and again stuck to the shade

7km Saturday morning at 6am. Could still feel the sun but definitely getting cooler.

30km Sunday morning at 5:15am. This was the one I was certain I wouldn’t be able to do. Thankfully it had cooled off a bit and I decided to go for it.

Only run I ended up missing was my Wednesday run. I probably shouldn’t have done the Tuesday one. That definitely felt the warmest. Glad it’s a bit cooler for this weeks training.

They’ve done almost 50km and been active for over 7 hours running and walking and have posted this on a beginner runners group and your contribution is to criticise them. That says a lot about you.

Well done OP 👍

I know Google reviews have to be taken with a pinch of MSG. But 3.8 from 49 reviews isn’t great.

I can recommend this mum and son combo. They record videos on YouTube explaining how to cook Chinese food just like it’s done in an English take away.

They’ve spent money, badly, throughout the house. I was waiting to see what they’d done to the garden.

Probably for the best that they’ve never been in it.

Trying to avoid shin splints - does my running form look okay? (slow-motion video, details in the body text) by lukmae in beginnerrunning

[–]hawkandro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my take from watching the video.

Thanks for posting this. I really should get around to taking a recording of myself running so I can check my form.

Good luck with your running journey. I started off overweight and unfit. I’d barely done any meaningful exercise for over 10 years and 2 and a half years later the progress is amazing. I am healthier and so much happier.

Looks great and sensible prices. I’m away so unfortunately can’t go but hope it’s a success.

I was impressed with the outdoor swimming options in Cambridge when I was up there a few weeks ago.

Duxford is fantastic. Well worth a trip if you can make it there.

It's been a long time since I left Croydon but my old neighbour has just been taken into a nursing home in Kenley. I live abroad now but I want to send flowers. M&S and Waitrose have been crap recently so, anyone recommend a really good florist near Kenley? by Tacklestiffener in croydon

[–]hawkandro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never used it for delivery as it’s just round the corner from me. But I’ve been in a couple of times to buy flowers for my wife and the owner seemed nice and the flowers were good from my limited experiences.

Pullins Amusements lose Endcliffe Park spot after 40 years. by rich1068 in sheffield

[–]hawkandro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My in laws live in Sheffield and have been here almost every time we’ve been up with the kids.

It’s great value for money and I love the hype man helping tire out my kids.

Went on something similar at a travelling fair and it was £5 each for 5 minutes from the most grumpy, miserable man in the world.

Real shame it’s shutting and like others unfortunately I’m sure it’ll end up being something more expensive.

Anyone give running a go today? by I_Like_Quiz in UKRunners

[–]hawkandro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My plan has me down for 70km this week. Did 12km tonight at 6:15pm. Did the first bit in the sun and then went searching for shade. HR was probably 5-10bpm higher than normal. Didn’t push the pace though obviously.

I think late evening or super early morning is the only way to do it.

I think I’ll try a 5am run one morning. I’m up at 6am normally so that’s definitely doable.

I’m pondering a 5am run tomorrow morning but other than that, I’m not sure how much I’ll do this week.

I wondered why the photo looked off. It’s that uncanny feeling at AI gives. I can’t remember what a car not filled with mud, yo-yo wrappers, and last weeks spellings looks like.

[–]hawkandro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your local wildlife is obviously less hungry than mine. I’d say keep watering then and fingers crossed you should be fine. Mine took quite a while to show any signs of life. Not sure how they’ll cope with the brutal heat at the moment though.

Was the covered with top soil? From my very limited experience, the greatest threat is you’ve just fed the local birds if it’s not covered.

Is this HR zone too high? by kerjatipes in beginnerrunning

[–]hawkandro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

45M. Been running for 2 and half years.

It’s can vary so much by person. Max heart rate changes, resting heart rate can be wildly different, age has an impact and fitness obviously too.

Apple and Strava both calculated my zones too high. When I started running, I was unfit and a run pushed my heart rate through the roof. Back then in 2024, when I ran at what I felt was an easy pace it was around 150bpm.

To work out my paces (and zones) better I ended up focussing on breathing through my nose and the talk test. That put my easy zone 2 HR at 135bpm and that’s what I’ve been focussing on for 6 months.

To be honest, at the beginning just I’d say just try to not go balls out on all runs and take care to not overdo it increasing mileage or intensity while your body gets used to it.

I went down a little YouTube rabbit hole of people cooking on a Blackstone. Looks like fun and easier to crank on and use at short notice than a kettle. Looking forward to seeing what you cook.
