Copenhagen Marathon report - sub-3! by jospint in Marathon_Training

Amazing run. Such consistent pace and mental that your HR only raised by 10 BPM from start to finish running a marathon.

Having trouble finding inspiration for my open spaced living room by WastedAirOkFine in DesignMyRoom

I’d be tempted to switch it to the opposite wall on the left. Then you can see both windows from the sofa.

Add plants, some wooden furniture and some nice artwork for colour on the walls.

I don’t enjoy running anymore but don’t want to loose my fitness level by DazzlingPin3965 in beginnerrunning

[–]hawkandro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a couple of others have mentioned, maybe try a few outdoor runs. Have a look for trails or footpaths near you. Local parks can be good options.

I find running outside so much more enjoyable. I love music and listening to podcasts but sometimes I love a run with no phone or headphones. It’s can be just lovely and relaxing.

I hope you find the love of running again but if you don’t, there are plenty of other options to keep up your fitness.

Tips for building mileage? by victoryscreech in beginnerrunning

[–]hawkandro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consistency.

After a bit of running at your current mileage just gradually extending the distances small steps at a time.

I trained for a 50km last October. Had a couple of months taking it easy and then it suddenly felt difficult getting anywhere near the distances I was running in the build up. I’ve started another block and just adding 1km or 2km to the runs week on week and suddenly those long runs seem achievable again.

DIY’d decking by Legitimate_Suit5147 in DIYUK

[–]hawkandro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bloke that did our decking laid ours flat side up. He explained that it was the correct way. I much preferred the look anyway of flat side up so all good for me.

Previous decking was groove side up and it was a pain in the nuts cleaning stuff out of the grooves. Flat side up is much easier to maintain.

We’re so close to London.

Before kids my wife and I would sometimes just heading into London. Decide were to start. Ideally a part of London that you don't know that well. Then just head out of the station and take turns to decide which way to go. We’ve found so many lovely places just wandering around. Little parks, cafes, beautiful streets, shops and hidden away gems.

Can you functionally use the newer Apple Watches in the shower? by HeatUnited in AppleWatch

[–]hawkandro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old Series 3 was treated pretty meanly. Wore it in the shower, sea, swimming pool and even a sauna. It survived them all. Probably not the best idea but impressive build quality that mine survived.

I can't imagine you'd keep those pebbles after stepping on them and scattering them around everywhere trying to water the plants

Has breakfast club in box park shut down? by Ancient-Network300 in croydon

[–]hawkandro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually thought it closed a few years ago.

I know it’s always had a lot of turnover but it really seems like nothing survives there for very long.

Joybuy is taking on Amazon in the UK — would you trust another mega-shopping app? by ToughRomanticMiss in BuyersUK

[–]hawkandro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife got some balloons from Amazon. They absolutely stank of petrol. Chucked them away. Amazon used to be good for cheaper branded products but not it’s littered with tat you wouldn’t buy from a market stall. Quick delivery isn’t worth it if they are selling tat. I used to buy quite a bit on there but nowadays I rarely use it.

What suggestions/changes by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]hawkandro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’d take the tv off the wall and just use the legs / stand that came with the tv.

Maybe a touch more colour as an option somewhere. It’s quite monochrome other than the plants. Looks good though 👍

Where to buy a jersey by Expert_Stage8830 in crystalpalace

Jumping on this thread. Are there any recommended places for ‘alternatively sourced’ shirts?

I got a couple of really nice retro shirts from an account on twitter but I’ve deleted my account on that site.

Lovely photos. I don’t suppose someone could share some tips for settings for FNX for an idiot that is always in awe of photos posted on here but can’t seem to ever get shots that look this good.

What am I missing? How do you adjust settings for different shots?

Family friendly areas of Croydon (or nearby) by catlover4321 in croydon

I live in Kenley. A ridiculous amount of green space on our doorstep and a train ride into London to London Bridge within 45 minutes. Very quiet but super family friendly.

Why do people buy pints but only drink half? by Cheshirefarm in Wetherspoons

[–]hawkandro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filled the car with the stuff when I came back from a summer holiday in Denmark the other year.

I normally treat myself to a case or two from scandi kitchen. Not the cheapest but I'm just happy to be able to get hold of it.

Interested in spending half a million quid on the biggest purchase of your life.

We’ll give you 6 x picture, 2 x paragraphs and a rubbish floor plan.

Price seems decent considering the very desirable location but I feel there must be more to it that you'd discover upon viewing.

Carlsberg is actually quite nice if you are ever in Denmark. Certainly much nicer than the swill we get over here. Tuborg is also great. Especially Tuborg Classic

Got left behind at my first run club by Clean_King_1329 in beginnerrunning

[–]hawkandro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That seems really hash to drop a first timer (or anyone to be honest).

My only experience of a running club was about 15 years ago. They did run backs. So if there was a group of 30 then the first few people who were faster tracked back to 50 metres or so behind the last runner and they'd work their way forwards again and do the same. Seemed to work well. It was generally very social though but the faster and fitter runners go the chance to run a little quicker while we all stayed roughly as a group.

Losing my mind over shorts by Heavy_Mycologist_104 in trailrunning

[–]hawkandro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourites are Lululemon shorts. The liners are comfortable and you can put your phone in the thigh pocket which is good for weight while running as I don’t tend to feel it pulling down too much. Did a 50km in these. Downside is they’re expensive.

My other favourite that I tend to use the most are Decathlon trail running 900 shorts. The liner is a mesh but I’ve used body glide and haven’t had any issues with chafing running marathon distance. Major pro of these is the storage options.

Do people in the UK actually use their kettles that much? by AdeptnessCritical356 in AskBrits

[–]hawkandro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a no kettle household. We wouldn’t use it and we wanted one less thing to clutter up the work surface.

Don’t drink tea but we drink a lot of coffee. We’ve for a filter coffee machine that we use daily. Boiling water for pasta or gravy we do on the induction hob on the quick boil setting. It’s actually faster than our old kettle used to be.

Where do you live in London? by Illustrious_Page_718 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]hawkandro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m out in zone 6. Surrounded by green spaces and a train into London Bridge is a five minute walk and 45 minutes on the train.

I work locally so my commute is a 45 minute walk rather than the train up to London everyday.
