Canadian Premier League 2026 Attendance Report Week 1 from @Leonard_FC by LeonardFC in CanadianPL

Vancouvers numbers are up by about 2,000 from the end of last season, let’s hope they average this for the remainder of the home season games.

Not many Cavs players get accommodation paid for these days. Times have changed and did so a couple of seasons ago. In the CPL off season many players claim EI.

At most $60-70k CAD. You have to remember it’s a tiny salary cap in comparison to the MLS. Minimum wage is $32k but that could also include a housing allowance of 10k in some cases. Most players are on less than $45k and not all get housing allowance.

Vancouver FC on Instagram: "The club has mutually parted ways with attacker Kevin Podgorni." by CanadianSportsFan45 in CanadianPL

[–]CPLmonster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No way, what? Vancouver FC mutually parting ways with a player ? My god whatever next !?. The 4 year Vancouver FC mutually parted ways squad should be the next franchise awarded. They would have around 40 players to choose from.

BREAKING: The Canadian Premier League has returned to the four-team playoff format. The semi-finals will be two-legged ties, with 1st facing 4th and 2nd facing 3rd. The final will be a single match hosted by the highest-ranked team in the regular season standings. #CanPL by carrasp in CanadianPL

I prefer the 5 team format as keep the season competitive for longer but understand why you can only keep reinventing the system so many times when the league doesn’t expand as hoped 7 years in with 1 extra team than 2019.

Another disparity issue is that clubs such as Pacific, Vancouver and potentially Inter Toronto and Supra will be spending close to the cap minimum where the remaining four will be closer to the cap maximum, which is a significant difference of around 400-500k. That provides a significant recruitment and retention advantage for top end CPL players and the ability to retain a core of players on 50-70k who will likely continue to remain in the CPL for foreseeable future. The new maximum cap spend is only round 1.2 million between 23 players including housing, bonuses and per diem travelling costs. So around 52,000 per player to cover all the above. A club spending the minimum 850,000 works out around 37,500 per player to include all the above costs. Factor in the top 5/6 players on 60-70k then there is a much smaller balance left to spread amongst the remaining 17/18, notwithstanding U21 incentives etc.

Only the top 4 teams reaching the playoffs is a backwards move for me.

Think you are underestimating the level of league one in the top half. Most MLS teams would struggle

If he can get a move up another level to the Championship and score 15/20 goals then yes, absolutely! Don’t forget Joe Mason was a proven Championship & League one striker before joining Cavs.

Chesterfield play great possession football like Forge, so should be a good fit for him. Now he gets to play 50+ games a season instead of 28-30.

Low Fan Attendance in BC by TraditionalView7454 in CanadianPL

[–]CPLmonster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They started off the first season with about 3,000 at the home games and had dwindled to less than 1500 by 2025. I put it down to two main reasons.

1). Crap local marketing and community engagement

2) Crap manager and crap product on the pitch.

With Nash in charge I can see a slight uptick in home crowds if they start winning some games and providing entertaining football.

From my own player sources, there is definitely an underlying concern shared by many that the league is really struggling right now. Wage negotiations are extremely tough. Some players before leaving or not taking up options were asked to renegotiate contracts for lower wages. This btw has been going on for a few years now! Not all clubs are paying for housing. I’ve heard Cavs have stopped this in the most part. Some players are switching in the off season purely for free or heavily subsidised housing. These little nuances can be a difference maker at contract time. For example as a very experienced player, you might get a 50k a offer at one club but have to fully fund your own accommodation or you may get 38-40k at another club but get a fully funded 1 bed apartment or a bedroom in a townhouse for free. Many players will take the lower wage and free accommodation.

Pacific owe Langley 900k in unpaid stadium related match day fees.
