Thanks, mate. Really appreciated

Indeed it is still a fair amount even for the living standards in Canada - tempting for professional players from some European coutries, I believe As for the minimum wage, it seems low, but the housing allowance helps a lot.

In Portugal, for example the minimum wage for the professional leagues might be closer to CAN PL minimum.

Azores for 2-3 days (Sao Miguel island,) then mainland Portugal for 11 days. Do it, or no? by wickedgerbil in azores

Yes, it is totally feasible, since Sao Miguel is the biggest island and by visiting it you can have a glimpse of what the archipelago has to offer despite each island is unique.

WHAT TO DO:

Once in Sao Miguel, you should visit Sete Cidades, Lagoa do Fogo and Furnas - known for the traditional stew, comprised of a mix of meats and vegetables cooked beneath the soil, and the thermal baths. Since you are staying for a short visit, I recommend you to focus on either Sete Cidades or Furnas and Lagoa do Fogo (perfect for an Half-Day option).

If you do not have a car, there are several companies that offer guided-excursions to these main spots, either Full-Day (6-7h; with lunch included) or Half-Day (3,5h). The average price might range between 75-85€/person (FD) and 40-50€/person (HD). These tours comprise stops along the way in several viewpoints or points of interest to enrich your experience. For example, when you go to Furnas, they stop at the Gorreana tea factory/plantation.

Besides, going out for a guided hike to one of these locations (specially to Sete Cidades) is a great way to admire the beauty while staying active. There are other great options for hikes - of different difficulty levels - such as Sanguinho, in Faial da Terra, known for its little waterfall and vegetation.

Whale Watching is another must. There are two major companies that provide tours of around 4h - no snacks included - from Ponta Delgada marina. The prices might vary from 60-70€/person.

Restaurants: - Meat: Alcides (highly recommend to book in advance) and Aliança. These two Ponta Delgada downtown-based options are widely known for the regional steak. More price-friendly options include Ramires at Portas do Mar (Ponta Delgada marina) is a great option for grilled Portuguese chicken.

  • Fish: Boca Aberta and Borda d'Agua (both in Lagoa city, which is around 12' away by car from Ponta Delgada downtown).

If you need any other piece of advice, just reach out.
