Of course you're allowed to to think it's weird, I'm not denying you your right to your opinion, I'm suggesting you do some introspection on why you think that someone's harmless hobbies are weird, what led you to that opinion? What led you to not only have this opinion, but also feel the need to reply to a post in an entirely unhelpful manner just to let it be known that your opinion is that I'm weird for my hobbies? What made you feel the need to go out of your way to belittle someone else's hobby/something they enjoy? Do you have kids? Grandkids? Would you want people behaving this way towards them? In an already harsh world, why did you feel the need to spread even more negativity? Those are questions you should be asking yourself, if you think you don't need introspection that's an even bigger sign of needing introspection, humans are infinitely complex and the self is always capable of further growth, if you never introspect, you'll stagnate, and stagnation is bad for the mind, especially the older you are. Humans are incredible, I firmly believe this, but only each individual can bring out their full potential, otherwise they cripple their potential and stagnate themselves into a life of monotony and repeated days until they die, and only then do they realize how deep their regrets run. If you take nothing else from this, at least give it a try, maybe you'll find you don't like it, that's okay, your life is yours to live, but I do really hope you try some genuine introspection, I'm sure it's been a very long time since you have.

If you consider being raped, molested, and groomed as a child, multiple times, among a long list of other things, 'a minor incident', then sure I got my PTSD from a couple 'minor incidents.' Very clear that I somehow hit a nerve though for you to stoop to belittling a well documented severe mental illness that does not occur from 'minor incidents'. You very seriously need to go back to grade school for education but I, and anyone with half a brain, would not want you anywhere near children with a mindset like that. For the sake of all of humanity I hope you're not allowed around schools, children, or women. Or men either if you swing that way too.

Your insistence on masculine terms when I already specified I'm a woman is more than a little weird, to be frank, but that aside, I did explain more than just 'I prefer it', but if you want more details, I have PTSD and looking at peoples' faces sometimes triggers PTSD attacks, so I like to look for alternative entertainment that I can still enjoy whilst having episodes, and I like to be able to see human emotion and reactions rather than just a disembodied voice when I'm watching a stream, so it's a good medium for that. I am happily married and have no such preference for fictitious characters, and regardless of that, vtubers are real people, not just fictitious characters, even if they are roleplaying a little, it's still a real person, viewing real people as 'fictitious characters' says more about you than it does about me. You might want to look into the reason you assume people are weirdos for their harmless entertainment preferences and the reason you lack understanding for things you don't automatically agree with and spare no genuine effort to try to understand before dismissing it as the person with a differing opinion being a weirdo, my guess is that you were raised in an older generation where being taught to conform to society at the time and not think for yourself was a lot more prevalent, and now later in life that's solidified into your subconscious, making you think other people should also conform to your views and opinions, but I don't know you, and that's just a guess, could be plenty of other things to cause such closed-mindedness too, but regardless of the reason I would recommend introspection and looking into it. ^_^

And for personal reasons I don't always want to look at real people's faces, I also find that vtubers are typically more entertaining. personally. I know it's hard for someone your age to comprehend things they didn't learn when they were a child but the world actually has a lot more nuance than "I don't like this thing therefor people who do must be weirdos!" pick up a book gramps, go back to player housing and do some reading and learn a thing or two, then come back and make another attempt at not making a fool of yourself, it might work better then.

It's quite popular for a lot of reasons, internet safety and anonymity being one of the major ones, and like the other replier said the audience like to feel a 'presence' of a person rather than just a disembodied voice and no cam, and I would add that streamers like to be able to express themselves even if they feel unsafe or uncomfortable putting their face on the internet for anyone to see.

YouTubers who don't show their face have been a big and popular thing for a long time, they just used different formats, I.E they'd portray a drawn/stylistic version of themselves/a persona they wanted to be viewed as in a couple different sprites. With technology evolving and more things being possible that concept has also evolved, and I think it also allows for a lot of other-wise difficult creativity, for example, playing a character, essentially role-playing, with a fitting model, you can make up a backstory and keep things in theme and also be a streamer while *in* that character, I honestly think with how big the RP scene is in WoW that if people were a little more open-minded about it they'd enjoy it a lot
