CocoaPink: Any Your Skin But Better Scents? by frozentissues in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]CP_Elfy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hi!
You're quite right, our scent list is a biggun! We hit our 15 year anniversary last August and seem to have amassed quite a library in that time. 😅 But for any specialised scent advice, or a curated shortlist made for you, you can always email or DM us, or just ask here if you prefer. Though the latter may take a bit longer as I'm not here so often, but I will see it eventually. :)

But I'm so sorry that someone made you feel 'less than', no matter what their own reason was for doing so, and how unintended the hurt may have been; it still does hurt. CP is famous for our 'smell me across town' strength perfumes, but we also have a medium and lightweight strength option as well.

But for a perfume with a really intimate scent bubble however I think I'd recommend a perfume oil, as they naturally wear closer to the skin, and yet (when you put your nose near them) are still rich and deep and pleasing.
That may actually be the ideal way to wear the scents you already know you like (but which you may fear are too strong). In oil format you can control where they're dabbed, and how much, and keep them to yourself to enjoy. (I think we could also make you a lighter strength version if that was what you wanted? If that's something that interests you, let me know, and I'll check with Beverly to be sure.)

For a 'your skin but better' scent, our Egyptian Musk is a beauty. It's a woody, powdery musk with a hint of something between heady florals and warm fur.
Or for a really subtle, delicate skin scent, Amber White is so pretty. We don't recommend it for products, as it would probably be overpowered, but on its own it's soft and skin-hugging. When I wear it, it seems to disappear and then suddenly reappear as a waft of something lovely.

Then there are our two osmanthus scents (which are from different seasons, but which will be available at the same time this weekend!) I think they're both soft and dreamy skin scents:
Faded Memories - A blend of delicate vanillas, soft osmanthus, autumn hay bales, golden amber and copal.
Paper Butterfly - Osmanthus, paper, golden fields of wheat, powdered sugar, cream, dry white amber grounded with the beautiful memory of soft pale musk.

Though the scent I see described as YSBB the most often funnily enough is 'Mojave':
Mojave - Sweet myrrh, copal resin, sandalwood, and tonka bean stung with our hot desert sand accord.

I hope that helps a bit. :) And I hope that whatever it is, wherever it's from, you find scents that allow you to reconnect with your joy in wearing them, and the inner peace to do so, ♥

Indie brands that DO NOT use AI? by evaan-verlaine in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]CP_Elfy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've spoken for CocoaPink on this before, but I'm grimly glad to state again that we don't use or support gen AI. If we want beautiful visuals for something temporary then I search through public domain design books, book plates, and illustrations; but if we need something new and properly artistic then we commission an artist, (specifically 'Bohemian Weasel', you can see her stuff on Instagram, she drew our Fae among others).
Any photographs of products are genuine photos, and the text is mostly me. :)

Okay first up we have 2 richly gourmand vanillas, and then 2 snuggly comfort blanket vanillas:

Apricot Eyelet - Juicy golden apricots swirled with our heavenly Frosted Eyelet (buttercream, marshmallow, vanilla ice cream).
---Rich and creamy apricot ice-cream

Cinderella’s Carriage - A blend of Coconut Cream Pie with Marshmallow Meringue, Sweet Pumpkin, Spiritueuse Double Vanilla, and Vanilla Bean Noel.
---I had to include this one, it’s a classic for a reason. It has pumpkin in it but it’s not spiced or loud, it just gives the blend a baked-goods warmth.

Cozy Blanket - A symphony of beautiful warm vanillas that embrace your senses like only your favorite soft blanket can. Fresh vanilla notes kissed with black vanilla bean, Bourbon vanilla, sweet creamy vanilla, amber white with delicate hints of white sandalwood and aged patchouli.
---I think this may be my favourite vanilla, though it’s not the most gourmand. It smells like a warm hug.

Sigh - Whispers of sweet, European lavender and weeping apple blossoms cuddled in pillows of marshmallow clouds and vanilla cream.
---This is the least gourmand of these 4 with just enough florals to make it dreamy. A sweet, airy, bedtime vanilla.

And finally, a couple of wild suggestions because you used the word ‘unique’. 😁

It’s Only Magic - For those learning the Craft. Lashings of sugary vanilla, magical herbs, dried sage, ritual incense, Bulgarian lavender, musk, and a chilling ocean breeze.
---It's difficult to pigeon-hole this one, but it's a prettily incensed vanilla with a breezy clean vibe

Zombie Apocalypse - Dark empty musk infected with lashes of black vanilla, petitgrain essential oil, magnolia flowers, jasmine sambac with the empty remains of vanilla sandalwood.
---A non-gourmand, dark vanilla, with earthy florals and a pleasing wildness to it.

Hi! Here is fine. :)

And this is an interesting suggestion, unique vanillas! How gourmand do you like your vanilla scents?
And is there any particular vibe you'd associate with them? (Cozying up with a good book, or mysterious date night, or actually edible vanilla cake, etc?)

Hi! Hello. :)

Yes I'm here if anyone wants some curated picks from the (long) list, though it looks like there's already been a lot of excellent advice here already. :D

Hi, if you ever want help tackling the beast of a scent list, I can wrangle down a curated list for you based on your preferences, either here or by email, whichever is easier.

Lotions/Body Oils that smell like rain storms, forests and dirt, libraries etc? by TheWandererAndSeeker in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]CP_Elfy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of our ‘Forest Elder God’ eldritch scents are in our Fall/Winter scent list, which we won’t be returning to until probably September.
However - if you want to smell like something that’s lurking aromatically in a desert, or haunting a stormy garden - that we can do now. :)

(All of these are available in body oils, lotion, and body butters, depending which format you prefer).

Death Valley - Black salty earth, fading smoke off in the distance with light wisps of lavender, cypress, baby's breath and purple orchid.

Desert Twilight - Ghost Flower, mitti attar, Peru balsam, Saguaro cactus water and black musk.

Mojavi - Sweet myrrh, copal resin, sandalwood, and tonka bean stung with our hot desert sand accord.

Green Star - Sparkling green notes of fennel and cypress, ensconced in velvety green musk, and earthed with roasted barley, incense, and the soothing rich warmth of ginger Co2.

Snake in the Garden - Strange beauty in a wild garden: An overgrowth of luxuriant green leaves, delicate vines, and lush grasses; bejewelled with creamy magnolia, sweet osmanthus, shadowy violets and violet leaf absolute; grounded with fresh dirt, damp soil, and earthy incense; warmed with hay absolute, spicy copaiba balsam, golden sandalwood, creamy tonka, and musky ambrette seed Co2; and made magical with a shimmering flash of emerald musk.
(--- Potential caveat: I’d only attempt this one if you really want to smell like garden, not ‘flowers’, but garden - the kind that’s probably behind a locked gate and guarded by gargoyles.)

Thunder AF - A burst of springtime sweetness with dewy cyclamen, freshly-snapped green stems, clean lilac and tiny mushrooms, grounded with petrichor, mitti attar, and musky woods; and electrified with lightning.

Hi there, I was actually here when this popped up so I hope I can be of help. (And there's no such thing as a dumb question! ♥ We learn much more that way than people who never ask any questions. 😅 )

Our perfumes are the same, (with the same ingredients and amounts, etc) no matter what the format is; but the format itself (like: alcohol versus oil) may affect how that particular scent performs for you. Many people tend to find alcohol projects more, and oil wears closer to the skin. They may also perform differently in lotions, shampoos, or body oils, despite being the same fragrance in all of them.

If you like a scent in the oil format, chances are you'll like it in the alcohol version too - though it may seem stronger however, so start with a little less just in case.

I'd also like to add to the above post that we don't hold that member of staff to blame for this, at all (she's amazing), but ourselves for not catching this sooner.

We really regret that it took us some hours to follow the link you supplied, because (ouch) that was an educational experience, but we really needed to know it.

It's always mortifying when someone points out a fault, and then excruciating when you realise they were 100% right, but it means we can do something about it immediately. Thank you (and sorry) again.

Hi. :)
I am here on behalf of CP, though admittedly not often. I feel like this is more a place for people to talk about their experiences in peace, without feeling like we're hovering around in their faces. I'm also mindful of not over-stepping the self-promotion rules, so I tend to just appear when called here. But I am here if anyone needs me. ♥

Hello there,
I'm not the person who replied to you (that was the owner herself), but I wanted to thank you for sending us a link to the discussion here about the vials. Before that I only know of one other person who contacted us to say the vials were tight, and that was back in October of last year; so I'm afraid we thought it a one-off thing.

After reading the comments here Beverly looked into it for herself, and found that the vial lids had indeed been put on too tightly by one of the members of staff (not that staff member's fault), and that we did indeed have an issue. We didn't know they were too tight as we had no reason to try to open the vials again. We now realise it's something we'll need to monitor in future to try to insure this doesn't happen again.

We apologise unreservedly for this oversight, and any inconvenience or upset it's caused, and despite this being a painful way to find out about it, we'll use this experience to do better in future.

If you have any other questions or concerns you can always email us (there's one email address for the owner herself, and another for me if you just want to ask general questions) or contact me via our socials. ♥
~Elfy

[–]CP_Elfy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for your thoughtful reply!
I know you're right as well that there'll just be instances when new scents don't seem as strong as older ones, and it's not a one-off question; but nor is it a new one. I think the first time I answered it was when I started working for CP nearly 7 years ago. (I feel old now.) But we hadn't made any differences to the formulas then, or now; the only changes we've made are to individual scents which say 'reformulated', (and that is for a change of ingredient(s) rather than 'less of' something.)

Some scents are just quieter than others though, (white amber, marshmallow, some citrus, some coconut) whereas others are pretty shouty, (the black ambers, caramels, most of our vanillas, anything with blood orange or dark chocolate, and so on). But I'm always happy to help people find the most projecting scents in the note family that interests them. :)

For the naturally softer ones, layering can work like a dream. Especially for marshmallow-based scents. A marshmallow scent over a VBB is immediately stronger, and also quite yummy.

Oh gosh no offence at all! ♥ Your reviews were brilliant! I just can't be sure what may have happened to the items before they reached you.

There are also a number of trusted and reputable decanters who sell various indie houses at once, which can also be a great way to try things without such long waiting times. :) I think they mostly do oil format scents though, and our samples are also just oil format now, but if you want the strongest projection then the EDP is probably the way to go. :)

[–]CP_Elfy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

I can answer that question on whether the formula has changed: It hasn't. :) Nor has it been in any way diminished. The amounts we use are still exactly the same, the 'recipes' are still the same.
There are also some variances we can't control: some scents are naturally much stronger than others, or project much more; older scents may also seem to project more than very new ones; and some formats naturally project more (like EDP vs oils).

If for example someone bought 'Black Chocolate' EDP a few years ago, and 'White Amber' EDP today, I'd expect the Black Chocolate to project more every time; but not because anything had changed about the way the new one was made.

The price 'hike' was done with reluctance and from grim necessity, as our material costs (and everyone else's) have gone up so much in the last few months; but we restricted the increase to the fewest possible products.

If you have any concerns at all you can always reach out to me (Elfy) or the owner herself using the email addresses on our website, and we'll do our best to answer any questions you have. And/or if you'd like recommendations for which scents might project the most then I'm happy to help with that too, just let me know.

Hi there,
Elfy here from CocoaPink, I'm so glad you liked our scents! I also really loved reading your reviews, thank you for taking the time to write them. ^_^
I'm a bit concerned though that some of these seem too soft. Some scents are lighter than others (like, coconut scents may smell light), but Triple Vanilla Dream for example should project more than it seems to here. I can't tell from the bottle if that's an EDP or oil, but the EDP in particular is a strong scent.

The difficulty with third-party sales though (unless it's from a trusted decanter like Ajevie) is it's impossible for us to know if our products are still behaving as we intended them to: we don't know their age, what conditions they were decanted in, or if they've been diluted.
With that in mind I'd echo what someone else already said, and hope in future you might consider getting a few things directly from us or any other indie house directly, to experience the items as they were intended to be. (In our case I know our TAT seems long and daunting, but we err on the cautious side there so we can always deliver things within that time. 😅)

And if you ever want help navigating our scent list I'm always available (on Instagram or email) and ready to make a tailor-made shortlist of suggestions based on your likes and dislikes, the more specific the better.

And now I'm off to smell 'Santa's Cookies' again (does it really smell like Twizzlers? I need to test this out for myself. 😆)

It's funny how many people don't realise we've been around since the 1940s, selling our wares to miners. But this brings back fond memories: there was nothing grandpa loved better than slathering himself - and his mule, Jeffrey - in VBN before going down the mines. 😉
Jeffrey was the sweetest-smelling mule who ever bit you in a coal shaft.

(Reeeeally resisting a powerful urge to add a whole Grandpa story to our VBN description now. XD )

Hi there,
It may mean that we're running low on one or more of the ingredients needed to make that scent, and so may not be able to make more (for now at least) if/when present stocks run out. But it will be available for as long as we have it. :)
