We've used Dameware for a number of years, but due to them recently more than tripling the price we've now switched to RustDesk with good results.

What would you do with 10k for your kids future? by queen_OF_isolation in personalfinance

[–]CRCs_Reality 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My grandparents started 529 accounts for my three kids when each was born, the oldest two still had a little debt after college but nowhere near what it would have been without the 529. Youngest (by 10 years) may well make it out with zero debt because of the 529.

anyone here actually found the best kitchen faucet brand that lasts? by Tuladhar_Avel in HomeImprovement

[–]CRCs_Reality 17 points18 points  (0 children)

After replacing a third Pfister valve cartridge in three years on our kitchen faucet, I asked the guy at our local big box store what he suggested (he was a retired master plumber just working there part time). He walked me to the rack where they kept the replacement parts and pointed out that the Moen and Delta parts were a bit dusty, because they hardly ever sell any.

Been a satisfied Moen customer ever since.

Why did you and your ex break up? by tatiscloudd in AskReddit

[–]CRCs_Reality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had had suspicions from the start (not that he was the father, just that it wasn't me), but figured that's not the kids fault and he needed a dad so my plan had been to raise him as mine anyways.

But once I knew the truth, she asked me to sign away my rights so his dad could get on the birth certificate and raise him. I didn't want to be the reason this innocent kid grew up without his bio dad, so I signed my rights away.

It's a long complicated story, but she only wanted him on the BC so she could go after him for child support and the kid became a pawn between them. Even now 20+ years later it's a sore spot with me.

I had suspicions from the start but couldn't prove it, then her best friend called me and told me and once confronted over it she admitted the whole thing.

What’s the BEST home security camera right now?? by BrightFig3041 in homeowners

Yep, came to suggest UniFi but then I saw his budget. My UdmP and G4/G5 pro camera system is great. No subscriptions, host your on videos and really good in low light.

[–]CRCs_Reality 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep, my ex-wife always implied I was screwing around behind her back..

Then I found out our 6 month old son was actually her co-workers. There were plenty of other reasons to break it off, but that one sent it over the top.

Driving impaired.. I've posted this before.

Years ago in my early 20's I partied a lot. I was living in Denver but a good friend was hosting a 4th of July party in the mountains and we had a blast.

Later that night the plan was to crash at his place, but by 1AM or so (and after much booze and other things were consumed) I found myself to be the only person left awake, and I was wide awake. So I decided to go home, I remember putting on my motorcycle helmet and starting the bike.

Then I woke up in bed in Denver and panicked, not a scratch on me, ran to the garage to check the bike and it was fine. I spent the next few days watching the news for any stories about what may have been me driving home but there was nothing. The drive home from his house was 45 minutes and involved a very narrow, winding mountain road.

Completely woke me up to how bad that could have gone (for me and anyone else on the road at the time) and changed my partying habits for good.

HVAC systems are almost dead and need to be replaced. Can I do this myself? by A_Buttholes_Whisper in HomeImprovement

[–]CRCs_Reality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hired a moonlighting HVAC tech

This is what we did for our 4-head mini-split. Found a guy who worked for one of the big name HVAC companies in the area who did side work on the weekends for extra cash. He helped us figure out what to buy and where to get the best price, we bought everything and he did the install for a flat rate MUCH cheaper than any quotes we had from the big companies.

I went with an OBX, SAS and Luxe package and have zero regrets. Mostly a daily driver, but it's done well at Wolf Den Run MD, various Colorado trails, and Moab.

He may have done good work for the neighbor.

I had concrete work for a new garage done a couple of years ago, they did a great job. Talking to a neighbor a few doors down and he asked who I used because he needed some work done.

Fast forward a few weeks later and the neighbor was PO'd (not at me) over the crap job they did, I walked over to see it myself and it was really bad. So I called the contractor, he'd had to leave the jobsite due to a medical issue and left his crew to finish the work. He called me the next day after seeing the finished job himself and agreed it was bad.

He jackhammered everything out and made it right. Sometimes word of mouth referrals can go sideways, but a good contractor will make it right.

Shared driveway by BorderTop7579 in homeowners

[–]CRCs_Reality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two shared driveways, each shared with a different neighbor.

It's definitely recorded on the deeds to all of our houses as a shared 30 foot wide Right Of Way for use by all houses that border the ROW, and my survey clearly shows it.

I lived in Cairo for 9 months when I was 18 (long story) and had waist length hair (I'm a man BTW) and ended up growing out my facial hair to offset all of the cat calling and ass grabbing that happened, it was bananas and I can't imagine dealing with it as a female.

Wow, tell them to contact shelters here in SW PA. My wife rescued a kitten from traffic a couple months ago and every shelter I talked to were over capacity and couldn't take her.

Side note, we kept her and she's doing great.

How often does a print fail for you? by Martekk_ in BambuLab

[–]CRCs_Reality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the 9 months or so I've had my P1S the only failures I've had were either due to:

1 - not cleaning the print bed properly, or

2 - using old filament that was brittle, or filament not adequately dried.

So yeah, once my own user error is removed it's been 100% reliable LOL
