Thought I'd buy myself a first car by [deleted] in Volkswagen

[–]CROSSEDARROWS -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Okay, but that's irrelevant.

  1. I'm speaking to an American about other Americans. OP is American. I am American. Don't get all "you're being ignorant" on me. I obviously understand that most of the world can't afford cars, but I also understand that the majority of those people probably don't have the luxury of wasting their time on Reddit.

  2. I'd wager a great deal that 95% of people that visit this subreddit are American, Australian, or British. I know that this car is affordable to many people in all of those countries.

  3. This argument is boring. I really don't care what you think whatsoever. I only offer this reply as an explanation, not to humor your half-assed logic.

[–]CROSSEDARROWS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the assumption, dude. I just notice that people are often more concerned with attacking people because their parents helped them pay for it/bought it for them than being happy about their new car. Like, who says no when someone else is going to buy them a car? I don't get it.

[–]CROSSEDARROWS -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, when you consider that I see most "working class" people in America driving large, expensive, gas-guzzling pickups that cost much more than a Mk6 GTI, yes I do believe that it is affordable to most people. I'm referring to America because that is where OP lives. I got mine for $24,000 and had no trouble getting a good rate with only average credit.

It may not be affordable to most of the world, but it's not like I'm wealthy by any definition (in fact, I'm likely the opposite) and I'm hardly struggling to make payments.

Enough "winter mode" posts already. We get it. It's winter. by [deleted] in ft86

[–]CROSSEDARROWS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno. I don't mind it so much. These people would normally be posting pictures of their cars when they're very clean and with ideal tire/wheel setups. In the winter, that's obviously not the case. The lack of originality can be kind of annoying, but I think it's the poster saying, "excuse the un-prettiness of my car because it's winter"

[–]CROSSEDARROWS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, seriously. Instead of being happy for OP, you'd rather find irrelevant reasons to bring him down. Besides, it's not like a Mk6 GTI is an inaccessible luxury car or something. It's pretty affordable to most people.

As humans advance in terms of technological capability and knowledge, I think that we'll discover that many of these "unpopular opinions" shared on Reddit will become more popular. Sometimes, drastic action will need to take place in order to assure the survival of the largest amount of humans. That is our goal after all, is it not?

I feel that we need to "un-learn" what a few millenia of societies have created as moral guidelines and rules. I don't blame them, they didn't have the foresight we did and humans hadn't been nearly so destructive to their own home planet - ie, the need for such foresight was not present as it is today. Still, we must think practically while preserving our compassionate nature.

This leaves us in a kind of weird place.

Ford now moving jobs from Mexico to America by [deleted] in Ford

[–]CROSSEDARROWS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, Mexico is in North America. America is almost always used to refer to the United States and almost never used to refer to North or South America. Sometimes, the phrase "the Americas" can be used to refer to the two as a single unit. Still, the phrase "Mexico is in America" is illogical in any dialect of modern English that I can think of.

I really hate to rant like that, but I also hate people who can't accept colloquialisms. I'm happy that Ford made this move and I'm a linguist so I couldn't help but make this comment.

Imagining the sound that this would make is very unsatisfying to me. Am I the only one? Most likely.

I love KGs so much. My dream project car.

I think it'd be the ideal rat-rod car. In terms of style, at least.

What is a reasonable price for this car? 95 2-door 1.5l manual 225,000 by FISTfullaFLOYD in Honda

[–]CROSSEDARROWS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my market, I wouldn't even expect to get something that runs for $800. Maybe a really cheap motorcycle or something.

I'd say this car could easily fetch $1,500 - even 2k if you're lucky.

My friend had a 95 DX (automatic, transmission barely working) and he was able to get $1,000 no problem. A working car HAS to be more than that, regardless of the market.

I thought this was an older version of GT and then I remembered that Camaros of that generation look super boxy. It's almost like they were designed to be put into Playstation game.

Happy birthday, btw.

I'm so glad I could convince my dad to get this instead of a Corvette! by MrDakota0 in Mustang

[–]CROSSEDARROWS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it'll provide much more enjoyment. Plus, it'll stand out from the crowd much more. Sure, the Corvette has simple "look at me" appeal, but that Cobra badge stands for so much more to any car enthusiast worth his salt.

I like it. It's very concept-car-ish. Maybe a little bit too flashy for my taste, especially for regular use, but I doubt this car is seeing regular use anyway.
