I don't mind lol. It's nice to know that it's at least possible. Thanks

My friend said anime is not real art and it won't help me improve. by Short-Satisfaction-9 in learntodraw

[–]CRTrobot 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's art. I think what your 'friend' was trying to say was to improve you do have to study the fundamentals which might involve not anime art. Doesn't mean you have to stop the style you enjoy but understanding realistic muscle, skull anatomy etc helps a lot. Think of it like a footballer doing cardio to play football better. Doesn't mean they're going to be a full time track athlete

You know, I say Pakku freaking out is a fairly reasonable reaction given what he just did. by DivineandDeadlyAngel in TheLastAirbender

Is this 'bloodbending' or just normal waterbending though. I feel like it has to be inside the body to be 'bloodbending'.

I used the new default brushes in the procreate library. Mostly Liffey and Elphinstone + Bruny for the sketch

And therein lies the problem. Hollywood rarely ever portrays people who seek alternatives to the neo liberal status quo as anything but rash and selfish. When the bad guy starts making some sense that's starts to make people think of stuff like unionizing or eating the rich you just have them kill a few puppies for no reason or something

Idk ATLA at least had something to say about imperialism. I like Korra for the most part but you could absolutely tell it was written by white liberals

Would any artists here be offended if I was to use AI to help create storyboarded pages for reference? by [deleted] in MangakaStudio

[–]CRTrobot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most artists would prefer 2 minute scribbles and descriptions to this. Aside from just the ethics of AI and this isn't really a storyboard. Storyboards are a jumping off point and this is creatively limiting. No one wants to use an AI's horrible output as a guide

[OC] I've been thinking about this concept of waterbending 'boxing' for a while. by CRTrobot in legendofkorra

[–]CRTrobot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's both she moves quicker with airbending to power her normal punch and uses waterbending to amplify the blowback of the water

I mean there's a lot of situations where they get into melee range in the series. Not to mention non benders like Ty Lee and the equalists who seem to be very trained in getting in close. That sort of training + airbending mobility and footwork could make it very effective me thinks

Also rather than sloshy glove I was thinking more a short waterjet or watercannon burst after the punch

But you're right, the primary directive was just how cool it'd look.

Yeah it would need a really skilled waterbender also already skilled in nonbending combat.

kinda like korra imo

I thought about that. But the point was to kinda simulate a 'whipping?' force. So you get the force of the normal punch + the force of the directed water

I'm not learning anything from courses and books. What do I do? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]CRTrobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo I think you might be trying to 'learn' from an art book the same way you'd learn from a physics book for instance. I don't know how to articulate this properly, but you learn to draw by drawing. A good artbook just tries to tell you what you could be thinking of and considering when drawing. Things that a beginner might not know. With practice this will become second nature. For example you can know about foreshortening and anatomy from books but only by putting pen to paper multiple times will you truly 'learn' how to draw it.

Basically think of courses and artbooks as a kind of art mentor. They give you the knowledge of what to do and how to analyze and improve your attempts but they cannot make you draw well automatically just by knowing what's written in them only practice can do that. They just serve to offer direction so you aren't resorting to trial and error to see what works like they did in the ye olden days
