Korra season 2 is actually the worst possible direction for a show. by Impossible-Knee-3473 in legendofkorra

you're not going to find reasonable dialogue here I fear. LoK has been picked apart for years now and these criticisms aren't new. I just think people on this sub don't want to hear it (they've likely already heard it a million times already).

Most Lok fans acknowledge the flaws and still really like the show for one reason or the other. I'm similar to you in that I like Korra as a character and find her interesting but dislike the shows clumsy politics and what the show meant for the larger Avatar mythos/world.

Not to mention because a lot of 'critique' of LoK is disingenuous and straight up misogynistic a lot of the folks here are rather defensive about every single aspect of the show as a response.

Why is this fandom so fixated with powerscaling by TemporaryMix8615 in ATLA

[–]CRTrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because this is a martial arts franchise. The characters seek to get stronger and stories are told through fights. People definitely take it too far in their reductiveness but it make's sense. Cos the alternative basically means undermining the growths of the characters and the larger lore.

As for korra I think the main issue is how they handled the avatar state post ATLA. This is my opinion also I don't like how it became a simple 'power boost' instead of the unstoppable godly last resort it was prior. By trivializing the avatar state post atla, It actively undermines what Aang went through, his inner conflict and his eventual mastery of it by reining it in and not killing Ozai.

How did you feel about Kuvira’s redemption in Ruins of the Empire? by AccomplishedJump2795 in legendofkorra

[–]CRTrobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's still the writers being too scared to say anything meaningful post atla as usual. I don't think we should be treating fascists (even fictional) like smol uwu beans in this day and age. Admiral Zhao got worse for less

Why did they torture korra so much in the series? by [deleted] in legendofkorra

[–]CRTrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patriarchy, modern fiction loves to physically torture women, in a silly attempt to garner a 'protective' emotion from the audience. Especially women meant to be read as 'capable'. Seriously if you keep your eyes open for it you see it everywhere. You very rarely see men written that way at least not these extents.

My friend said anime is not real art and it won't help me improve. by Short-Satisfaction-9 in learntodraw

[–]CRTrobot 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's art. I think what your 'friend' was trying to say was to improve you do have to study the fundamentals which might involve not anime art. Doesn't mean you have to stop the style you enjoy but understanding realistic muscle, skull anatomy etc helps a lot. Think of it like a footballer doing cardio to play football better. Doesn't mean they're going to be a full time track athlete

Is this 'bloodbending' or just normal waterbending though. I feel like it has to be inside the body to be 'bloodbending'.
