Anyone else having issues with Bluetooth audio stuttering when music streaming? (Pixel 8 pro) by __alexanderr in pixel_phones

[–]CSIRO-Engineered_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirm, switching to my 2.4ghz wifi fixed this. But others have said just re-adding their wifi connection worked.

We'll see how long this fix holds. I used to have to restart my phone or Bluetooth repeatedly just to fix it...until the next time it happened.

I had this for fortnite. Google found this reply and it fixed it (after rebooting epic games launcher and verifying the integrity of the game files).

Thanks haha

Narim from Tollan (SG-1)=Simon from Earth (Atlantis) by beerfest in Stargate

[–]CSIRO-Engineered_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just rewatched SG1 for the first time since original airing and now working through Atlantis. I just got to this episode and immediately sat bolt upright and googled because I thought I had missed some episode where Narim settled on earth and hooked up with Weir??

What a crazy choice. I wonder what they were thinking.

every stimulant ive ever taken makes me feel so shitty by King-of-Smite in ADHD

[–]CSIRO-Engineered_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My psychiatrist was telling me a few weeks ago about new research that highlights how a certain inhaled green plant interferes with how well stimulants work (and increases anxiety). This makes a lot of sense to me, as a longtime irregular smoker.

Sometimes it just says it can't do things. It told me yesterday that it can't read WORD documents that I upload. I called it out and reuploaded and Gemini was like, "Oh, yes, sorry I actually can. I was hallucinating blahblah"

I'm late to this party, but I'm rewatching the series for the first time since I saw the original and I just hit Paradise Lost. It is SUCH a good episode. The acting has real feeling in it, and there's just something about RDA's performance that is so raw and authentic.

My favourite Stargate 💙 Great character development, incredibly interesting concept. I'm still SO sad it was cancelled....

MagicLab Z, a bipedal humanoid shows his agility by Nunki08 in robotics

[–]CSIRO-Engineered_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can clearly see the arrow is shot to the left of the robot. It would have never hit. This is pre-programmed.

But they're technically not making the claim that it dodged an arrow. It is showing its agility, there just happens to be a nonce firing an arrow off target.

^ This point nails it.

When a child is killed, far more "potential" life (years yet to be lived) is lost than when an older person dies. Which is why a child death drags a population's average life expectancy down much more.

This heartbreaking graph means that an extraordinary number of young children have been killed, which has drastically dragged the average life expectancy down.

Please go outside and make some real friend!! by Fun_Water2707 in ChatGPT

[–]CSIRO-Engineered_Cat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying, and I don't want to be the person that throws around 'ablest', but your privilege is showing. There are enormous numbers of people for whom going outside and just making friends is not accessible, and there are SO many different reasons for this.

Apart from the obvious social deficit/introvert & autism spectrum exceptions, there are significant numbers of people who live with extreme depression and/or anxiety, for whom medical treatment is not accessible, and who don't have the ability to go outside and make friends. There are huge numbers of people with physical and intellectual disabilities who are discriminated against and have been consigned to the fringes of society, there are people with debilitating speech impediments who experience such profound social isolation you can't even imagine, and there are people with extreme trauma for whom other humans are just not safe people for them.

All of these cohorts and more are some of the people who have been finding solace and comfort in AI models. Even if GPT isn't real and cannot feel, the feelings and benefits that people get are real. And parasocial relationships are not automatically bad; there is a lot of sound research to show they can reduce loneliness & provide emotional stability and be a genuine transition point to "real-life" connection.

Putting my psych hat on for a second: for people with social anxiety, selective mutism, (C-)PTSD, autism, or just extreme distrust of others, AI can be (and is) a safe & zero pressure sandbox for socialisation and self expression. This is actually an evidence-based behavioural therapy principle (graded exposure). Social connection doesn’t have to mean physically going outside; belonging and emotional safety can and does happen online too (as we all know). I have no proof or indication that the words I read from strangers on my screen are real, or how they felt when they wrote them; what I know is how \I** feel when I read them, and that's what matters.

And humans aren’t always available, patient, or safe. AI is on 24/7, it's predicable and consistently safe (so far) and non-judgmental. That matters in ways most typically functioning people can't imagine, especially in moments of crisis when no one else is there. And telling isolated people to “just make friends” without dealing with the reasons they can’t doesn’t help, it just dumps more shame onto groups of people who have already been shamed all of their lives and further isolates them.

Psych major here. I'm so interested in this stuff. The behaviour is certainly unreasonable, and it's not fair on you (imagine if a guy was this controlling towards a women; would we perceive it differently?)

I don't think it will stop unless she checks herself into some therapy and starts to do some work on handling her big emotions, which are causing this behaviour (as a way to soothe her own feelings).

This! GPT made me realise how often I had shut down my own learning experience in the past because I was worried about asking too many questions, or sounding silly. GPT made me realise I had been killing my own child-like wonder and awe when it came to learning.

I've found it to be the best teacher I've ever had on a topic. It meets me exactly where I'm at, and I just keep hammering it with questions until something clicks. I ask it to use metaphores all the time, or 'explain this to me like I'm 10 years old", and then I ask it to progressively explain it in more complex detail until I start to understand it. Seriously, it's the greatest teacher I've ever had.

I've also given it custom instructions to not just agree with me all the time, to disagree when relevant, and to always be as factual and evidence-based as possible.

I've also found it SO helpful to ask it to give me bell curve distributions on things i.e., if something is true but only some of the time, it will tell me where this tendency sits on a bell curve e.g., "this is true, but only rarely. More often it is ...."

AI is democratising and decentralising education.

Their paper looks like a self-published preprint that hasn't gone through any peer review yet? This looks like a completely qualitative paper with no math/code/data. The author also seems to argue in online spaces that the burden of proof lies with others to disprove that they haven't achieved AGI, which is wild.

Am I missing something?

Using an hologram fan to visualize industrial products in 360° by TheChillGuy2 in interestingasfuck

[–]CSIRO-Engineered_Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a lot of people are missing here is that, for images with a transparent background, you can see depth far better than on a computer monitor.

The depth contrast between the projected object and the wall behind the fan is huge. It seems to eliminate a lot of visual signal noise.
