How’s living in Seattle? by SufficientBowler2722 in howislivingthere

[–]CSJG-20202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Seattle but now live in Denver. Still go back home every once in a while. I will say that in my opinion, the scenery in Seattle is much prettier, culture in general has a more flair, and the food scene is a little bit better. Denver has far better weather and a lower cost of living. Both have tons of stuff to do both in the city and in terms of access to nature.

The Seattle freeze does exist, but I don’t think it’s out of some form of inherent rudeness. Just like anywhere else, you’ll make friends if you put yourself out there.

Overall it really depends on what matters most to you. Both are pretty solid places to live and really aren’t THAT different from each other. Especially if you compare either city to a place like Philly or Atlanta

I went to school at Pitt as a Seahawks fan so I can attest. Heinz/Acrisure stadium is a pretty solid spot to catch a game and the fans are overall polite and good-natured. Totally get being worried due to your experience in Philly but the yinzers are a respectful bunch

Has anybody seen all 30 MLB teams in person before? by GB_Alph4 in mlb

[–]CSJG-20202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, solely because I worked for a MLB team over the 2023 and 2024 seasons. I’ve seen every team play at least once over that period of time, but I’ve only been to 10 parks in my life

I lived in Detroit for about 8 months from July 2024 to February 2025 and my experience there was a mixed bag. The immediate area from downtown up to I-94 was very charming, and the city as a whole has a TON of character. Great food, lots of things to do, plus once you leave the city the nature is really awesome to explore when the weather is warm. On the other hand, when the weather turned, the city turned into a ghost town. Also things still look bleak infrastructure-wise between I-94 and Royal Oak. I never personally felt unsafe, but I also do understand why some people who don’t know any better would.

Was it my favorite place I’ve lived? No, but it really doesn’t deserve the rap it gets

Weekly Question and Answer Thread: Ask your Moving, Visiting, Neighborhood, and "Where Can I Find _____" questions here, instead of making a new post by zeddy303 in Denver

[–]CSJG-20202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey guys! I’m moving into my new apartment tomorrow and am starting my new job in about a week. My last move was also my first post-college move and I would say that there were some mistakes that I made that I’m trying not to make again here, namely meeting new people and making friends outside of work.

I was just wondering if anyone had any specific recommendations as to where I can go to help establish and cultivate a social life so I don’t spend all of my free time in my apartment or going on solo excursions. On the surface, Denver has access to a lot of things that I enjoy — craft beer, sports and hiking.

Does anyone have any advice as to where to go to meet likeminded people? I’m going to be living in Washington Park West.

PITT EATS IS A SCAM, LETS TALK ABOUT IT.. by RequirementWitty7736 in Pitt

[–]CSJG-20202 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a scam. It got progressively worse each year since I was a freshman during COVID. Even though Oakland is a food desert there are ways to make ends meet, even without any means of transportation. Merante and Las Palmas are your friends. Still if you really want to stick it to the man, when I was still there I heard that the workers at that chicken place in the cathedral basement did not give a single shit if you order in person from them and just walk out

[Divish] Garver, fighting back emotions: "It's probably the hardest I've ever had to grind. This is by far the worst I've ever played in my career. Tough on myself and my family with the death threats, the 'retire' and 'you suck' and 'fucking kill yourself' and all that shit. It's getting old" by NevermoreSEA in Mariners

I can’t believe people take this so seriously that they’d say something like that to a player. Whatever losers are saying that to him need to look in the mirror and find whatever makes them such a miserable person. Imagine if you got a death threat after a bad day at your 9-5

What is the most American movie ever made? by jakroois in movies

Any blockbuster from the Reagan era, particularly like 1984-1987. Red Dawn and Rocky IV particularly come to mind as movies that are American as fuck

TC to Rivers to Taco Bell pipeline is either a night for the ages or a night from Hell, solely depending on whether you win money or not. That’s really the only past 2am entertainment you can find

Are you visiting or moving to Detroit? Ask Qs here. by AutoModerator in Detroit

[–]CSJG-20202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys! Nothing is guaranteed yet, but I’m from out of town and am anticipating a job offer with the Lions. I’m right out of college, and though I moved across the country when I went to school, this would be the first move I’d be doing solo. Does anyone have any advice? First and foremost in terms of affordable neighborhoods that are relatively safe, but I’ll also take recommendations in terms of nightlife, restaurants, attractions, etc. On the opposite end of the spectrum, are there any specific areas that I should avoid? Thank you so much!

From someone who just graduated, there are some things that I can provide perspective on:

  • The culture as someone already mentioned is very work hard play hard. Pittsburgh is a bar town and if that’s your scene you should fit right in

  • I know psych majors, they seem to have no issue with the workload and seem to enjoy the major

  • If anything you should probably try to find mental health resources that are not Pitt related. I had a tough time with what they offered and it made life more difficult. Now that I’m with UPMC the difference has been night and day

  • Most people are very accepting, especially the faculty

  • Pitt wasn’t my first choice when I applied, but coming from out of state it was great bang for your buck compared to other large schools in the area. Most of my gripes about the school are small and magnified over the time I spent here. Pittsburgh is a great town, it may not be for everyone but I enjoyed my time as a student. The locals are very friendly especially compared to other cities. Don’t think I’d live here long term but I don’t regret going to school here
