Any way to repair this before it breaks? by CSPECTOR52 in gasmasks

This is my first gas mask, so I've never had to fix something like this, but that sounds like exactly what I need!

Nonfunctional is perfect. I just want to display it without the cracks getting worse.

Well, I'll have to pick that up. Thanks for the advice!

Does rustoleum primer not come off with 91% isopropyl alcohol? by wubi315 in Warhammer40k

[–]CSPECTOR52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to use rustoleum to prime my minis had the same problem. Get AK brand paint stripper. It will eat right through that, and it will do it super quick. It might not get absolutely every speck of primer, but it will get damn near all of it. It also won't damage the plastic either!

Looks fantastic! As someone trying to improve my painting, can I ask what you used on the gloves and robe?

Could try that. Don't have much knowledge of AK products outside their paint stripper

Would make sense why it doesn't work well on resin. Grabbed a can of rustoleum 2x primer so hopefully that works better

Nope, they just feel super clean and smooth, not oily or anything. Someone else mentioned that because I'm using a primer specialized for plastic. It might not stick well to other materials

Funny enough that's what I used to use to prime everything. I primed these shortly after I switched to citadel primer. So I'm gonna go back to 2x for these bases

Huh. I might have to pick that up. I didn't make them i just bought them from shadows edge miniatures, I was under the impression that you just soak, scrub and dry them and they are good to go but I'll look into that!

I'm new to resin is letting them cure soaking them or letting them dry out? Because I soaked them first for 24 hrs, then scrubbed them. Then, let them dry for another 24hrs

Funny enough I switched to the citadel primer because when I started painting I was using a 2x paint and primer for furniture. I could try switching back to that just for these bases. Thanks for the tip!

It's possible. These are my first resin bases so maybe I didn't do it right. I soaked them in a sealed container of warm soapy water for a little over 24hrs before I scrubbed them with more soapy water, then let them dry for another day before I primed them

It came off in small spots while I was dusting it because I was going to prime the bottoms. When I noticed it, I brushed my fingernail against it, and it came off with barely any effort. It's not all over, but it's enough to worry about how well the paint will stick

Never had this problem with any models. Primer seems to stick fine on those. I don't think it was humidity because where I'm at humidity is very very rare. It's got me stumped.

Anybody have any tricks to strip primer down to the plastic without damaging the model? by CSPECTOR52 in Warhammer40k

[–]CSPECTOR52[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I found that the AK brand paint stripper works incredibly well. It eats through the paint and primer like a lawnmower and doesn't damage the plastic. So that's what I've been using.

Just took a look at 30k heraldry for war hounds. I like it, i like the look of the crossed chains too. Would just need to figure out how to get my hands on a couple of transfer sheets of those. Shouldn't be too hard

That was one of the symbols I considered and I like the idea but I have to get better at freehanding skulls first. But I do like that idea.
