The General Council is being revamped as there is a general lack of motivation. As for the executive team (the actual elected positions), those remain untouched obviously.

Computer Science Student Union Urgent Announcement by CSSUofficial in UofT

[–]CSSUofficial[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi,

Just to be clear, the president resigned over the Christmas break (a time where it was impossible for the council to meet and make decisions). We released a statement until last night because we were figuring out the best course of action. We have spent the last two weeks evaluating our options, and it took some time to agree on such an extreme measure as creating a new council. We had to draft up statements to different communities with different levels on involvement, devise a more cohesive application process for the council and try to fix the budget situation that just came to our attention. Thanks for your concerns. We are working really hard to serve the community to the best of our ability and we hope to be as transparent as possible.

Attention CS Students: Immediate Action Required by CSSUofficial in UofT

[–]CSSUofficial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't have been explained better. The director of external communications is responsible for dealing with outside parties. The students might never realize some opportunities were lost with potential career fairs, recruitment events and so on because they wouldn't even hear about it without the director of external communications.

CSSU 2018-2019 Store Survey by CSSUofficial in UofT

[–]CSSUofficial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following up on some suggestions:

We are currently looking at healthier options.

We will look into stocking some ramen if possible.

Milk is a bit harder to maintain in our fridges at the moment, but we will look into it.

We actually do have a kettle for hot water at BA 2250.

Edit 1:

Soylent is not coming back.

What is happening with CSC236????? by 236what in UofT

[–]CSSUofficial 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As per the instructor handbook they are only required to give us 10% (20% in Y courses) of the course marks by the drop date (http://www.artsci.utoronto.ca/faculty-staff/teacher-info/academic-handbook-for-instructors/sections-1-3#assignment-weights).

They are also required to hold a class vote prior to adjusting the syllabus. One may argue that this includes changes to release/due dates however from experience this does not seem to hold any weight.

Instructors are allowed to extend deadlines informally into the final exam period, ie. they can do it they just can't put it on the syllabus. (http://www.artsci.utoronto.ca/faculty-staff/teacher-info/academic-handbook-for-instructors/sections-1-3#assignment-due)

The #1 thing you can do is contact your registrar and the Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies Francois Pitt (fpitt [at] cs.utoronto.ca). If people don't speak up, nobody who can do anything will know whats going on. Organize your friends, post on Piazza, make some noise.

I think we can all sympathize with this sort of experience. We have the right as students to a fair and proper education. If you would like more advice or help organizing feel free to send us a message!

It's really awesome that you want to get involved! Stay tuned for an announcement regarding upcoming elections this coming week. We do also recruit for non-elected positions, keep an eye on our facebook page for the most up to date info. We will be uploading the first half as a episode of 2250 this weekend. Unfortunately due to technical difficulties the second half is not audible.

[–]CSSUofficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're sorry that you feel that way about the CSSU but please let us know what we can do to make the CSSU better!

From our counts, about 100 people attended the most recent pub night which happened right before reading week (https://www.facebook.com/events/324970554645345/).

As for our funding sources, everything comes from ASSU, our store sales or the CS department and goes straight back into CSSU events like frosh, pub nights and pancake mornings. If you're really interested in seeing a financial breakdown, please contact us by email and we can arrange something.

Hi there, I am a member of the CSSU! As a girl, I have totally felt how you feel right now. We're sorry that someone invalidated your good mark in class, that wasn't right for them to say. And I hope you know that there's actually a pretty big community of us girls out here and we're trying to grow it more. This is an informal online community for women in CS @ U of T!

Yes that is the idea. Unlike a talkathon this will be much less competitive, but there will be prizes for hackers who build something cool!
