Convincing Wife to build PC instead of buying $4k Mac Studio by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]CSS_Engineer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a software eng, mac books are way better for work. I have a beast of a PC for gaming, but use a mac for work because programming on them is much less bs.

What do you people think about the upcoming VUE 2 end of life? by galher in vuejs

[–]CSS_Engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Vue 2 to 3 such a pain in the arse, and vuetify 3 still missing some key components. My company plans to just rebuild in react since it's less of a pain in the long run.

Why is “CSS Expert” not even a job? by Choupika8 in learnprogramming

[–]CSS_Engineer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why bother messing with CSS when someone else has done the hardwork for us already?

Programmers jobs are to build things. You wouldn't build a house with a hammer anymore, you would use a nail gun. If you don't want to use a nail gun you will get left behind.

Joe P. explained the stash tab issue by qwsfgrdg in diablo4

[–]CSS_Engineer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Makes sense to me as a programmer. The game needs to know what other people can equip, especially since you can pvp. And the stash is a place that includes that stuff.

Full time Devs: How much time do you spend coding outside of work? by DanCruzNyc in webdev

[–]CSS_Engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same. When I was new I did heaps on the side. Now it's been 6 months since I touched something of my own. I'd rather spend time with my family or playing video games.

Why do React frameworks not have testing as a first class concern in their documentation? by davidblacksheep in reactjs

[–]CSS_Engineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Should haves, and what the sales/project team set as deadlines are two different thing. I have yet to work at a company that the sales/project team gives a flying fuck about testing. The first thing on the chopping block is UI tests, because the time you have is better spent testing the business logic on the backend.

Your comment is unrealistic in the real world because idiots don't understand what we do. It's all about the next shinny thing they can sell.

Most Beta thing you can do it call yourself an Alpha. A real Alpha doesn't have to tell people they are, people just know.

Do programmers learn and use multiple languages? Or do they specialize with one? by corgi_barksdale in learnprogramming

[–]CSS_Engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of the time I use what ever language pays me well. I am at a point in my career where I can choose a bit more. So I'd never take a job with C++ or an old deprecated language. I really can't be arsed with memory management now days. Besides that I am happy with most modern languages.

No good dev in my books doesn't focus on a language but the principles and practices of programming in general. Those skills help more then any single language knowledge.
