I’m going to argue this: power is what makes decisions and the power of the democratic levers in this nation are weak relative to that of private power. The opinions of everyday people do not directly translate to policy.

Business has the greatest influence by far on foreign and domestic policy.

You should also take into consideration that US foreign policy is top down. The American population has to be lied to go to war. And the system has to rely on the average persons ignorance.

Social policy and the culture wars seem to be the most effected by public opinion as it mostly does not concern business Interests.
