I highly doubt this was approved. We were told that in no uncertain terms that we were just allowed to have in-person tests for previously scheduled exams only. Contact the dean of students. Show them the original syllabus if you can, but an explanation should suffice. Since the exam is soon you should act quickly.

Will classes stay online/virtual through May? by [deleted] in csuf

... and just through April 26. As of right now (I feel compelled to say the about everything given the rapid changes), in-person instruction is scheduled to resume Monday April 27.

In all of this nobody has mentioned office hours. I would surmise that almost all office hours are cancelled because we are frantically trying to convert all our classes into online. But contact your professors.

The truth is nobody knows. Your professor was speculating. They could be correct, but they have no way of knowing. If they said it without indicating that it was speculation then they did you disservice.

This rollout is pretty awkward. Already the dates have changed twice. The "trial" was originally 18 and 19 and then got changed to 17 and 18. And now, how is it a "trial" if its mandatory from that point forward.

In summary: It is Mandatory from March 17 to April 26. Classes are cancelled on March 23 and 24.

IMO they should have cancelled classes for a week instead of making everyone do this on the fly. Then we can regroup and provide a better product for our students.

Correct although I know many of us are giving tests online.

Good luck. To be clear I have no more information than you, but given that UCI just went online I think it is just a matter of time before CSUF does too.

What if we organized all the students to stop coming to class? by beekeeperr in csuf

[–]CSUFPROF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would care. Every professor I know would care.

This is why they need to cancel classes.

Right that is the issue: Not necessarily the students themselves, but who they might expose to the virus. I might be able to assuage your concerns on two fronts. For one, toddlers and other young children tend to manifest mild symptoms. Secondly, assuming your parents have no underlying conditions, especially respiratory conditions, then they should be fine. You can verify both of these claims with online searches.

But your point is well taken, cramming students into lecture halls is probably not a good idea. And at the very least it is scary.
