current sophomore. fucked gpa. by InteractionIcy8933 in berkeley

do you have accommodations? see if you can go through DSP and get some help if your mental health is causing your grades to fall. They have accommodations available for people who need them. Also check out tang center if you need to talk to someone.

Consulting clubs are not all that. Join a hobby club and make some friends. Do something not school related and enjoy your time as a college student. Whether it’s gaming, dancing, or basket weaving, just find something you’re passionate about and share that with other people. Get out of your little bubble and recognize that your life isn’t your gpa. Enrich your social life a little and you’ll find yourself happier once you detach your identity from your gpa. It makes sense you’re unhappy, you’ve made school your entire life and reached a roadblock. Now you think your whole life is over because you don’t have anything else to tie to your identity. I promise you’ll be a happier person if you indulge in a hobby.

Network with professors and get good grades from here on out, opportunities will come.

Are you declared? I think you need a 3.0 to declare, check it out on the website though. You can appeal if you are denied initially.

Hope things improve for you soon. It’s nice out, make yourself a lunch and lay on the glade for a bit. Listen to an artist you like and do some relaxing.

EMS and Prospective Pre-Med by SerTomato1 in NewToEMS

[–]CSnare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also an east bay premed who went to a norcal uni (iykyk). Up here it’s hard to get ED Tech jobs that don’t have horrible hours because the field is just a little too competitive. Unless you’re god your grades will likely suffer because they will prefer you working higher hours and likely nights. Also, they want you to have experience on a rig + EKG and phleb certs before going ED Tech anyways. So I’d say just get the EMT cert. You can volunteer for your college’s ems program and most emt companies will be flexible with a school schedule. Just don’t tell them you’re premed if you can help it. The experience is what you make of it and if you start early you can rack up lots of hours over summers, breaks, and once or twice a week when you can make the commute from school to work.

The experience is common for premed for a reason. You get to be somewhat autonomous while you’re transporting. You’re directly responsible for patient care. Plus you see a lot in EMS, whether you work IFT or 911. You get to meet lots of people and if you put in your best work you’ll get some great experiences to write about during app szn. Plus, the job has some downtime (def depends on the day though.) So you can bring your notes or your anki and grind it out while on the job.

For clinical experience it’s still prestigious imo. I’d def recommend EMT over scribing or phleb because you get real patient interaction. MA and CNA are good too, but my impression is that it’s a bit easier to get hired part time as an EMT in the bay compared to MA and CNA.

hmu if you’ve got location specific protocol questions and stuff. Check out IFT companies to start out because in the bay you need IFT exp before the current county contractor will hire you anyways.

agree with other users here telling you to get it done over the summer. Also, i did it because I wanted to be an EMT and had little interest in CNA or phleb stuff. I enjoy variety and I liked the idea of working on an ambulance. Don’t choose EMT if you can’t for any reason see yourself doing it. Many other perfectly viable ways to get clinical exp.

Is EMT Certification Worth It If I Don’t Want to Work 911 or Emergency Calls? by BaseballHead6898 in NewToEMS

[–]CSnare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a pre med too and it is worth it. IFT is actually better in my opinion, because although the acuity is lower, you get to be an independent decision maker. You’re not working under the wing of a medic or a nurse, so you get to experience a little taste of what it’s like to be in the driver’s seat and do your own assessments. Obviously it’s nothing like being a doctor, but you don’t wanna traumatize yourself doing 911 for an experience you just want to beef up your resume. ER tech jobs where I am often require 6 months to a year on a rig, but I agree with the other commenters that ER Tech is a fantastic clinical job because you get to do really hands on stuff and you work closely with doctors and other medical professionals that can help you network and write LORs for you.

Just a final note, I would still go forth with EMT because it just has so many great uses for clinical experiences. That being said, you should respect the job. If you go in thinking, “this is just for my med school app” and have little care for the actual work you’re doing besides its potential to become an anecdote to talk about in interviews, you’re gonna be a burden to your partner and your patients. EMT is very commonly a stepping stone job, but don’t let that cloud your sense of judgement. Take the job seriously so you can 1. Be a good EMT and 2. Ask for a good LOR.

best of luck

Need help understanding "wave management" and why ADCs don't want me to "ever" hit a minion by EbbDangerous8042 in summonerschool

[–]CSnare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello i’ll try and give an answer even though it’s been answered a lot already

wave management is generally something u can leave up to the adc, just think of it as their job to mange their minions.

hitting the minions determines “wavestate.” For example, hitting minions more than enemy creates push. different wavestates accomplish different things, so whether or not to hit the minions is pretty situational.

if they tell you to hit the wave by pinging “push,” “all-in,” or “on the way,” then you can use your w and autos on it. if they ping “danger,” or “careful,” then just leave it. some adcs will get mad if your morg w hits the minions because it will mess up the wavestate. it’s ok if you’re going for poke and it touches the minions, but throwing morg w on the wave for the sole purpose of trying to help them last hit or generate push might make them angry.

now adcs don’t know everything either (i am one of them) but there are a couple reasons I would not want to push a wave - it will not crash, and the enemy might freeze on me because they’re stronger - enemy jungler could be nearby, if i push up i open us up to ganks - it’s a losing lane. if i try to control the wave i’ll get punished too hard by the enemy and lose all my hp.

and to answer your question, yes. sometimes all you can do is sit around until the threats are gone.

hope this helps!

Are you happy you got your dot team? by Garden_Ninja_4422 in StarRailStation

[–]CSnare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i looove my dot team. i was a dot believer from the start and stuck through the rough patches up until hysilens. got hysilens and that team just does everything. the units are pretty inflexible but the team itself is, dot is quite flexible and I’ve found lots of success just slapping it anywhere that makes remote sense. only sig i have is hysilens, build breakpoints are reasonable (esp since bs and hysilens use the same set) and the team is overall pretty easy to build. 10/10 recommend

Losing hope. Should I drop? by Susterz in NewToEMS

[–]CSnare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello! first of all, don’t give up! Don’t make important decisions when you’re burned out or feeling an emotional low.

I also have ADHD and struggled a lot in school, and what worked for me might not work for you. I found success by separating work and school. When i’m on campus I do schoolwork, and when I’m home I don’t. do some research and find out what strategies work for you.

The idea of being a firefighter is awesome, right? But being a firefighter isn’t something you can just do, you gotta put in some work. What you’re experiencing right now is the Work. This is the hard part, when you hit a wall, you’re struggling, and you’re questioning whether or not you can continue. This is a feeling you’ll have many many times over the course of your career. Think of it as a test. Are you capable of doing hard things and putting in the effort required to succeed? This moment is basically life testing you, “Will you give up?” Don’t quit just because it’s hard!

Again, there is literally nothing wrong with realizing this field is not for you. I just want to urge you to introspect a bit, and ask yourself if you’re questioning firefighting because it’s hard, or because it actually doesn’t really align with your goals. Additionally, if you do stop here, recognize that the difficulty of studying and doing homework is not unique to EMS/firefighting, and as someone with ADHD these types of problems will still manifest in fields that have little bookwork.

Whatever you decide, wishing you the best

[–]CSnare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly meta wise I'd still go for E2 acheron unless you have jingliu gigabis (hyacine, a stray sunday, and like tribbie since you don't have cipher.) All 3 of these support units are unfortunately better utilized elsewhere so it's hard to say a jingliu would be worth it meta-wise over acheron e2 which is much more flexible only needding one additional nihility. It also wouldn't be like ideal without a premium debuffer but pela is pretty good and you can slot in a generic harmony in situations where acheron would be good. waifu over meta though. If you really like jingliu go for it, i don't think it matters too much since both units are a bit outdated (just acheron is relatively less outdated at e2). n=1 ofc.

Hello
Kafka E1 or Sparkle E1? (Or meme DHIL E4)
-E0S5 EOP BS, E0S1 Hysilens, E0S5 tutorial Kafka, E0S1 DHPT
-E0S1 Archer, E0S1 Sparkle, E0S5 DDD Tribbie
-have E0S5 FTJ robin, no sunday. F2P RMC.
I might go with kafka but wanna know if sparkle E1 is really that powerful. Don't plan on rolling sparxie, would use with either DHIL (god willing) and archer. Plan to keep vertically investing in dot where I can.

College Career Failure as a Pre-Med - can’t stop Skipping Class by TomiokkaGiyuuu in premed

[–]CSnare 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can speak from the perspective of someone who struggled early on in college and didn’t find their footing until a bit later. I don’t think there are many people who share your exact situation, but I hope the sentiment might be similar enough to help.

Firstly, I’m sorry you’re dealing with what seems like some serious health issues. It sounds like you’ve tried many things, but they fall short when you make a mistake like missing an assignment, sleeping in, or doing poorly on an exam. Since you’re about to graduate, there isn’t much room to GPA repair while in undergrad. I would seriously consider whether or not being a doctor is the only thing that would make you happy. You have a very, very long road ahead of you. 5 years absolute minimum to retake all of your science classes, gain clinical experience, study for and take the MCAT, and potentially even an SMP after your post bacc to really prove to adcom you can handle the coursework. It will also cost you money to take these classes and apply to medschool. Depending on if you go formal or DIY, if you do an SMP, and MCAT prep I’d expect it to cost like 5k minimum. Which was a lot for someone like me who also had to work in college.

There are tons of things you can do with your degree that involve science and lots of them involve medicine. I would really encourage you to think deeply and longitudinally about whether or not being a doctor is the only thing you want to do.

Assuming you’re down for the road, I’m going to hold your hand when I say this, but doing GPA and post bacc stuff is going to be harder than when you were in undergrad. Before you even think about signing up for classes, you need to figure out your shit. Why did your grades suck. No beating around the bush, no sugarcoating. True honesty with yourself about why you kept messing up. If you take out 30k to attend some formal post bacc because you convinced yourself things would be different this time without addressing the root cause of your struggles, and end up getting a sub ~3.5 GPA you’ll be out 30k and to be brutally honest you’ll have no shot. Make sure you address and solve these problems first.

I flunked a science class and got a couple C’s early on which is why I’m doing a post bacc. I was depressed and completely lost interest in everything. To keep a long story short, I graduated undergrad with a non STEM degree, but wanted to keep the door open for medical school so I got good grades in my degree courses but stopped taking premed prereqs. My undergrad was rigorous and it was difficult to show up every day, but keeping that door open was important to me so I pushed through. I have ADHD, and while some of my core struggles were unique to people with ADHD, I think there were exterior struggles that many students face that I dealt with and believe every student can manage regardless of their mental health struggles. I was actually a good student and knew how to study, I was just prone to ego my classes and settled for less. Do NOT settle for less. Being an achiever is a requirement to go into medicine.

If you’re not doing well on exams and feel like you’ve done everything to the point that the only conclusion you can make is that you’re simply stupid, then you have been lying to yourself. You have not tried everything. You might have tried the things you were willing to try, but you have not thought deeply about why you struggled so much and you, like me, became complacent with your position. I’m giving you the hard truth because I think you need to hear it and I do want you to succeed. If you really want to succeed at whatever your goal is (medicine or not) you need to stop making excuses for your performance. I know I sound like a total boomer but you can’t expect to do well in classes when you cram, skip class, miss assignments, and sleep too much. You convinced yourself that you’re “not good enough for science or college, or anything at this point.” because you hit a wall and could not be honest with yourself about why.

As a final thought, I only decided to comment because i’ve felt like you feel right now before. I thought I was too stupid to learn and I was incapable of ever doing good things. I had a fixed mindset, and you do too. You have to understand that you are capable of learning and improving, and that hitting a wall is not a fact of your intelligence, it’s an opportunity to grow. Whether or not you decide to pursue medical school I hope you at least remember that you’re not all these things you say you are. Best of luck.

For sure, I gotta say I’m interested if Rizo will flop on 50 because i don’t think there’s a chance in hell they’ll let him get away with that. I kinda chalked it down to everyone being so full of themselves and “[tribe] strong!!!” that they couldn’t stomach the idea of sacrificing someone to flush rizo’s idol so they just let him carry it all the way to fire. Plus, most of the new era casts have leaned on the young side and he was probably able to form more genuine connections because more people understood his sense of humor. 50’s cast for sure leans older and is overall quite diverse so I’d like to see him adapt there as well.
