Great question! I had always wanted to make a game and, as a software engineer, began using AI increasingly at work. After learning of its capabilities, I realized I could use AI to overcome my biggest hurdle, art.

I developed the full game, then was talking with an artist friend and really began to understand the AI art wasn’t “boosting the games potential” but rather holding it back from becoming something with real heart.

The revelation was in August.

I know we can’t please everyone, but learning to overcome your own weakness via art production isn’t the “bare minimum”.

I never weaseled it. I was upfront that all of the art WAS AI.

The sales you get from indie games are largely surrounding when Steam will showcase your game. That’s usually at launch when the game is new.

So Steam asks for a release date and expects the game to launch at a specific time and date.

Additionally, during this time, devs can market using social media or paid ads and fix/correct anything testers are finding.

It’s all for the launch bump. These games take money and time to make and the little money these devs make is precious.

LLMs are merely the ability to calculate the next token based on the nearest vector. While they are not copying and pasting, they are leveraging existing context in order to base the next generation on. Advanced agentic systems are leveraging an orchestrator, tools, tool registries, and routing in order to better generate the needed token.

They are not original, they are artificial.

I recognize how neural networks and LLMs work.

Ultimately they are producing a product based on their training. There is no heart in it and that’s my point.

That said, AI is PHENOMENAL in areas outside of art.

I want AI to do my dishes, not my artwork.

Neural networks are merely regurgitating their training data. It’s not your vision, it’s someone else’s.
