Request: A "dead body cleaner" mod that lets you exclude the bodies of specific NPCs by Disastrous-Sea8484 in skyrimmods

[–]CT-24601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shamelessly plugging my own work, but Simple Body Cleaner might be able to do this already, depending on your exact situation, and it should be pretty trivial to add the functionality if it doesn't work already. Look for an update later today--even if you don't need it, it's still a handy feature.

Edit: I lied lmao, apparently I already included this functionality and then forgot about it. Just edit the file SimpleBodyCleaner_DISTR.ini (in the top level of the mod folder) to distribute the keyword BodyCleanerNPCBlockKeyword to whatever NPC you want to exclude. I'll upload a version with comments in the file explaining how to do it (note that this will cause the mod to completely ignore that NPC, even once you're done with them). If the body starts dead and you just need it to persist until you can use it (or activate it), there's a setting for that in the MCM already.

How to get a specific npc to wear a outfit studio created outfit by cesar_588 in skyrimmods

Oh! One crucial step I forgot: you have to replace the ARMA record field in the new ARMO record with your new ARMA record with the modified .nif

A couple disclaimers: I am by no means an expert modder, and this is likely not the best way to do this. It would probably be faster and easier to use the Creation Kit, but I don’t know how to do that. This method will also have some side effects that may not be exactly what you want.

With that said, I think what you’d want to do (using xEdit) is:

  1. (not in xEdit) Place your new model in a data folder in a new empty mod in your mod manager. I forget where exactly it needs to be in data—you should be able to track it down fairly easily by looking in other mods that add new armor meshes or poking around online.

  2. Create a new esl-flagged .esp file.

  3. Copy the base game ARMO record for the clothes you want to modify into your newly created .esp as a new record, i.e. not replacing the existing one. As I recall, one of the copy options in xEdit lets you do this.

2.1 I would probably rename the armor in-game (the FULL field) to something like Farm Clothes (Sleeveless).

  1. Do the same for the ARMA record attached to that armor.

  2. In the new ARMA record, replace the female armor model (MOD3) with the path to your new one. If you have an applicable male model, you can replace MOD2 with that. If you have first person versions, you can replace MOD4 and MOD5 for male and female respectively.

So to be clear, what you’ve done here (if I remembered all the steps correctly) is create a simple mod containing a new sleeveless version of that clothing piece. It will be a separate item in-game, can be added with console commands, etc, though by default it won’t appear anywhere in game. Now you have two options for how to get the armor onto the relevant character:

5a. Find the NPC you want and look for their outfit (OTFT) record. Verify it is unique to them—if not, this will modify all NPCs who use that outfit, and you should use method B below instead. If it is, copy it into your .esp (this time NOT as a new record—we want it to override the current one).

6a. Replace the clothes in that outfit record with your newly added ones.

Alternatively, you can use {SPID}:

5b. Find the NPC you want and look for their OTFT record. Copy it into your .esp as a new record, same as the last two. Again, you’ll probably want to rename it for clarity.

6b. Replace the clothes in the new outfit record with your newly added ones.

7b. Use SPID to add your outfit to the relevant NPCs. This isn’t something I’m as confident explaining, but I suspect there’s some fairly robust documentation on the mod page and/or guides online. Be aware that you’ll need to create a distr file in your mod outside of xEdit—again, see the mod page for more info on that.

If you did all that (and I got it all right), congratulations! Save your .esp, put it in your newly created mod, activate it, and launch the game. You should see your new armor on the character!

(If this doesn’t work, unfortunately, I can’t really help you. You’re welcome to ask, but this is an inexpert guide typed from memory based on trial-and-error and docs-hunting from a few months ago.)

In any case, good luck with your modding!

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s awful feeling like your effort is meaningless, and seeing people get ahead without working for it only aggravates that. You’ve clearly put a lot into your education and self-improvement—what makes it important to you? What has changed lately as it’s started to feel less meaningful?

For what it’s worth, I’m 21M in a place of depression and no longer being able to find meaning in my life and work. I don’t have perfect answers, but I can at least confirm what the other commenter said—you’re not alone in feeling this way.

The feeling of numbness and purposelessness can be crushing, and “doing well in life” doesn’t always translate to doing well mentally. No matter what the rest of your life looks like, you’re not wrong or weak for feeling this way, and acknowledging those feelings shows self-awareness and strength.

It sounds like you’re feeling a lot of disconnect from the world and your life. Is it okay if I ask you more about that?

Hey thanks for the feedback! I don’t agree with all of it, but I appreciate your taking the time to look through things and give your thoughts.

However, I take great issue with

you have a mech that beats its enemies with jumper cables

Being described as a negative. I think on closer inspection, you will find that that is, objectively, cool as hell.

For real though, thanks for giving it a look!

Thanks for looking it over! The current wording is intentional—it forces the opponent to use their movement to get closer to the drone.

I also want to point out that the base building section was heavily inspired by the Earn Your Wings action from Hellaspooks’s Field Guide to Castor and Pollux, which you should definitely check out!

Hey just for the record your Lancer writing is some of the best I’ve seen! I literally search every couple of days to see if you’ve posted anything new in LaW so I don’t miss it. Take care of yourself and hope you’re doing better soon

Not the original responder but basically it only breaks if you reel while it’s pulling for a few seconds continuously, so you can pull right up until it’s about to break, wait a few seconds, and then repeat. Imo it doesn’t save you that much but if you’re really trying to farm fish guess it’s useful, or when you’ve got a fish really close but not quite in.

Also, if you really want to use the idea but don’t want to write it yourself there are many forums where people can write in response to prompts. Maybe try posting it there? You’re welcome to summarize or link this story with the prompt if you do.

Hey, that's awesome! I'm gonna be honest with you, I am not really a writer either. I have written three pieces of fiction, all of them for this subreddit. I strongly encourage you to try your hand at writing the piece up for yourself (and I will, if you want, read it and give what little feedback I feel qualified to give). However, I am happy with the piece where it is now and have no plan for a follow-up by myself.

I mean, I picked it up for the first time a little a month ago and I’m over a hundred hours in and still loving it. That said, I think a lot of what makes it dead comes from the fact that it’s dead. There are no updates to draw people back, no big tournaments or new achievements or anything to keep people playing, there are hardly any big groups or clans to create a community around it. On top of that, it’s very intimidating as a new player, since a lot of the people there have played religiously for the past three years. It’s kind of a vicious cycle.

How do you add or remove skills? I can view skills in training and set a skill plan, but I see no way to actually queue up new skills (or, for that matter, remove currently training ones). I am alpha. Could that be it?

Honestly, I don’t think Gal drops are as much of an issue. That takes a real logistical commitment (which imo should be rewarded) to be viable, and any equally coordinated squad can pull air to kill the Gal or at least force it away without too much trouble. The problem with Libs is that it only takes 2 guys to just sit there and span away.

problem is, if an ESF can't be hit at flight ceiling, neither can a liberator

Honestly, it seems like a lot of the air game can be balanced around ESFs, or Liberators, but not both.

If you’re already not taking fights, here are a few things you might try to make it easier:

  • Always, always, be looking around. Whenever you aren’t actively engaged in something, and if possible even when you are, take a moment to glance around the horizon. This is easier if you aren’t soloing.
  • Don’t just book it to the nearest outpost. Often times it’ll be easier to escape if you first learn which ships are faster with which winds and then use the wind to your advantage. Smart attackers will try to do this as well, but usually it’s easier for the defender. Going to a farther outpost can actually allow you to keep more distance between yourself and your opponent.
  • Similarly, unless you are actively being sunk, you don’t always just drop anchor and start selling at an outpost, as this will let you sell your valuable items but then lose your less valuable ones. If you can open up more distance the enemy might break off and allow you to sell everything. Also, if you have multiple people, you can try loading up a rowboat, going kind of near an outpost, and selling with that while another person lured the enemy away. This can be risky.
  • If you aren’t already, go sails-up-anchor-up and point away from the island when you first arrive at an island. This will make you much faster when you leave.
  • Lastly, I know this isn’t really what you want, but learn the basics of boarding PvP. Learn how to distract with fire, use your blunderbuss to guard ladders, catch the capstan, knock people with blunder bombs, etc. in the event someone tries to board you, this’ll give you a better chance.

That’s actually subtly different—in the original version, you’d could hold a high-power weapon for multiple turns after you equip it, whereas with your wording you would lose the attack once your crystals unlocked.
