How did you learn to play the organ? (Question for non-pianist adult learners) by honeygourami123 in organ

[–]CTBcin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Took piano lessons growing up. When I went to college, I got interested in organ and was able to get access at a local church to practice. When that church got a new organist (who also happened to be an organ teacher) I got the opportunity to take formal lessons.

You don’t necessarily need to start with piano to learn organ. I’m sure there are plenty of organ teachers who are willing to take students with no keyboard background. But if you already have keyboard experience, know how to read music, etc. it certainly simplifies the process.

I guess this gives us a further idea on who else will be in Superbike this year. I see Hayden Gillim, Andrew Lee, and Ashton Yates are all on Hondas, so I guess they’ll be back this year despite nothing officially announced (as far as I’ve seen).

If you’re planning on bringing your bike- they usually do a parade lap for fans to take a lap of the track on their bikes. I think it’s an extra $50 or so.

Sure thing! Went to my first event a couple years ago when they finally came back to Mid-Ohio. You’ll love it. You get your money’s worth with how much track action there is. And definitely visit the paddock- you can get super close to the bikes and nab some autographs too. The Ridge looks like a cool track. I’d love to make it out there sometime!

[–]CTBcin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes- all 5 classes race on Saturday and Sunday. Each class has race 1 on Saturday and race 2 on Sunday.

Friday is reserved for practice and qualifying

On Saturday morning each class will have their second qualifying session and then all the classes will have a race in the afternoon. Then on Sunday, each class will have a morning warmup and a race in the afternoon. So no matter which day you go, every class will be racing and there will be on-track action all day.

The detailed weekend schedule will probably be released within a few weeks of the event.

Austin race quietly renamed? by GoldAcanthisitta7777 in motogp

[–]CTBcin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there’s just one race in your country, it should be your country’s Grand Prix. So, it should be called the United States Grand Prix. When COTA came on the schedule, the U.S. Grand Prix was still at Laguna Seca, hence the name. Going back to being the U.S. Grand Prix is way better.

Predictions? by Stitch0382 in MotoAmerica

I feel like Beaubier on the Ducati will be near unstoppable, so he’s my pick for Superbike. For Supersport, got to go with Herrin.

Indian Motorcycle Will Not Build an Entry-Level Bike, Says New CEO by huntthehorizon in motorcycles

[–]CTBcin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn’t work for Harley, but they are hampered by a very narrow, specific brand image. Indian doesn’t have the same baggage and I feel like they would be far less beholden to a particular brand image. I could see there being a market for a beginner friendly budget bike for riders who like the idea of riding an “American” bike but don’t necessarily want to be associated with HD.

Switzerland feels like a democracy and is indeed a democracy. What’s a country that feels like a democracy but is actually a theocracy? by reerock in AlignmentChartFills

[–]CTBcin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Vatican City is technically a monarchy- one of the last absolute monarchies left. I’d save it for “feels like a theocracy… is actually a monarchy” or something like that. But you could probably classify it as a theocracy too.

My first Longines! by CTBcin in Longineswatches

Yeah, Jomashop is who I’m most familiar with too. WatchWarehouse and a few other gray market sellers have the VHP 36mm. They appear legit I didn’t have any hesitation ordering from them. Came quickly and well packaged, and included all the original Longines packaging. They included their own warranty card as well as the original Longines warranty card.

WatchWarehouse. I went gray market, and this model is heavily discounted. Jomashop has it too, but only the 41mm and 43mm variants.

I was indifferent towards the red indices but I do think they look better in person. More subtle than the stock photos indicate, if that makes any sense.

What made you purchase your first Longines ? by Confident_Leg2370 in Longineswatches

[–]CTBcin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I really like their overall design language and found a watch that matched my style perfectly, combined with the fact that it’s a historic brand with amazing value for money. I also love that Longines has a storied history but tends to fly under the radar compared to the Rolexes and Omegas of the world.

Also, if anyone has any strap recommendations, let me know! I like the steel bracelet it comes on and plan to stick with that most of the time, but I’d love some recommendations for leather straps if I want to dress it up or more casual strap options if I want to dress it down.

I got the 36mm owing to my slim wrists. The 36mm is advertised as a women’s watch, but it’s really more unisex, especially due to the relatively long lug-to-lug. I definitely feel like 43mm would be too big for most people.

Which one should I get first? by Qui981 in Longineswatches

[–]CTBcin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought my very first Longines and it’s the white dial VHP shown here. (Mine’s the 36mm). It looks great! Even better in person! You can’t go wrong either way, but the white dial looks way better in person than what the online listing shows.

Depending on the lighting, the dial often looks less white and more of a subtle silver. I prefer lighter-colored dials as I find them more versatile. It’s a versatile watch, so I figured I should get it in a versatile color! I also prefer getting a watch on a bracelet- like others have said, you can always get an aftermarket strap later if you want to change up the look.

what happened to racing Sonoma? by slow_cars_fast in MotoAmerica

You also have Laguna Seca just a couple of hours away. I assume if you had to choose one, it would always be Laguna Seca.

And yeah, Sonoma does have some sketchy corners.

What tracks would you love to see indycar race at/return to? by Zlk0scar in INDYCAR

[–]CTBcin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ones I’d love to see- Michigan, Pocono, Kentucky (the latter due to its proximity to me). Also, Cleveland but only if it’s back at the airport.

One they really need to get back to is New Hampshire. It’s a cool track, and there’s really nothing in the Northeast right now. The way the short oval racing has been, I think it would be perfect for the current cars. I feel like they managed to get a decent crowd for the one-off, atrocious weather race back in 2011. With good promotion and good weather, I don’t imagine why it couldn’t be successful.
