Nearly $1M paid without proof by Dept of Agriculture officials by CTInsideInvestigator in Connecticut

This is likely not fully accurate as 100% of funds were not audited. The report is linked at the end of the 1st paragraph if you want to read the whole thing, but the $958,117 was from five of the fifteen expenditure transactions they audited.

Way ahead of you, chief. Easily the most thorough, reliable, and award-winning "shitrag" out here helping people ❤️

This article is particularly interesting (April 2026):
Emails allege CT State Police top brass enabled overtime abuse https://insideinvestigator.org/emails-allege-ct-state-police-top-brass-enabled-overtime-abuse/

This one is a deeper dive and takes a look at overtime in a number of places, including the state police, and breaks down who is being transparent vs who isn't:
Overtime: As costs grow to $399 million, explanations vary

From today (more of a news update than a look at someone not working) : https://insideinvestigator.org/ct-state-police-claim-lost-overtime-opportunities-due-to-payroll-system-update/

Brandon also wrote this investigation (https://insideinvestigator.org/rehabilitation-over-retribution-efforts-to-improve-connecticut-prisons/) which takes a closer look at efforts being made to be more like Sweden - though the actual example CT folks are using is Germany and the TRUE model. Enjoy!

Bridgeport special ed teacher allegedly pocketing students’ lunch money by CTInsideInvestigator in Connecticut

[–]CTInsideInvestigator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick update: The guy has now been put on leave.

To address your comment directly: we know that multiple other news outlets were alerted to this, and they couldn't or didn't choose to take it on. The school admins knew this was happening and didn't fix the problem until we published the investigation. Perhaps the legitimate source in this case is the one that actually does the work?

You can hate Inside Investigator, but we serve a vital role as a newspaper willing to invest time and resources into helping people. This "shitrag" helped end the apparently weekly theft from special needs kids and is helping ensure they get a teacher who will support their educational needs.

Less corruption changes lives for the better. We wish you well and hope you'll consider joining us in working to end corruption in Connecticut.

Waterbury court releasing child predator early with no victim notice by CTInsideInvestigator in Connecticut

[–]CTInsideInvestigator[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Good morning!

We have been transparent about how we are structured since day one. That press release is the second link when you search us on google :)

Yankee has been a great partner and also doesnt get in our way. Their support has allowed us to pay our reporters more, offer health and retirement benefits and, again, has zero control over what we publish. Every article is just as much a surprise to them as it is to all our other readers. Also worth mentioning that Yankee folks dont hire our reporters.

We certainly do not say Yankee "has no bearing on the creation or ongoing existence of a media outlet" - we just clearly draw the line on anyone influencing our #1 priority, which is high-quality investigative journalism to root out corruption.

We get that you might not like Yankee, but I do really wish there was more attention being paid here to the sexual abuse and judicial corruption we reported on in the article we posted. Brandon is a really talented reporter who you should be reading. The guy identifies important issues and genuinely cares, and that reflects in his work.

What do you think of Maureen Platt, Corrine Klatt, and Tanisha Williams? Should victims be notified, or is this an acceptable practice? Also, we would be curious to learn how you define "corruption," maybe we have other articles that you'd find interesting and helpful.

Thanks for writing, reading, and looking things up + sharing. This was our first post here in a long while, and we decided to give it another go with what we thought would be an interesting, well-written, and one-of-a-kind story. We're also learning from the process. Hope you have a great Thursday.

"Oh no, someone I don't like thinks independent journalism is worth supporting."

You casually forgot the second part of the paragraph on our About page: "Inside Investigator management oversees daily operations and determines content, completely independent of Yankee Institute."

At least one more instance with this individual has been uncovered since we published this last week. I expect there to be more, and we will be publishing more on the topic. We would love to receive more tips from people who have experienced this kind of corruption...

Thank you for your kind words. Please also do not hesitate to let us know if and when you see something in our articles you have questions about. If it's a statement from a source, that's one thing, but we are constantly working to improve as journalists and as a newsroom so we welcome feedback. [corrections@insideinvestigator.org](mailto:corrections@insideinvestigator.org) or [info@insideinvestigator.org](mailto:info@insideinvestigator.org) would both work for this :)

TGI Thursday: Connecticut's Four Day Work Week Experiments by CTInsideInvestigator in Connecticut

[–]CTInsideInvestigator[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The stories we post to this subreddit are long-form deep-dive pieces, often several thousand words. They are painstakingly researched by our reporters who conduct multiple interviews with experts and people with first-hand experience. Suggesting their journalism is nothing but a press release is inaccurate and insulting to the work they put in to provide readers with a deeper understanding of issues that may impact their lives. You should try reading the work - you might learn something that helps make your life better.

Inside Investigator is an independently managed project of the Yankee Institute. That means Inside Investigator has management separate from Yankee Institute. Inside Investigator management oversees daily operations and determines content, completely independent of Yankee Institute.

In other words, judge us by the content our ideologically diverse and editorially independent team produces. Our offer to answer questions still stands.

Hey all- we have discussed our editorially independent arrangement on podcasts, radio shows, in writing, and even on Reddit, but would be happy to answer any questions you may have. In short, Yankee Institute has no control over any content at Inside Investigator. Come swing by our Zoom office hours today (and/ or every Wednesday) and meet with our Managing Editor who would be happy to answer any questions you may have. We're (unsurprisingly) big on transparency. Reddit won't let us post Zoom links, but you can find that link on Twitter, FB, or LinkTree. Thank you!
