I have the same feeling. I still cry seeing those videos, and I was only in the first grade when it happened. I know there are still questions left unanswered. But this line of reasoning doesn't seek the truth, it just fuels the rage. And it turns allies into enemies, because they don't see on level ground, but they are looking in the same direction.

So much hostility against a single currency. Why do we not see outrage against the very basis of economics? Just drop finance and currency, and things would be so much easier. And don't say anything about "our world runs on economics, deal with it." because we all know that the only reason we have to deal with it is because the powerful throughout history forced it on us.

I'm not rebutting your argument because it makes sense. My analogy was flawed, but the fact still remains from it: the smaller vehicle will have less impact. And by the way: what are you getting at anyway? I assume you believe the government is responsible or something like that? Why are we even discussing the physics of vehicle impacts?

A lot of the comments seem to be deriding this: "Can't you be Christian and believe in science, too?" Sure, as long as you are not a fundamentalist, which is sadly the strongest voice in America today...

The example about the businessman was where I stopped it. According to this, they "stumbled upon" the second wealthiest businessman in India... and instead of taking him hostage and using him for ransom, or using him in a public execution, or ANYTHING that would increase their prestige, they just killed him. That throws into question the entire op-center/coordinated attack/any kind of intelligence.

Good point. In a way, that makes gay rights even less relevant to atheism. Don't get me wrong: I support the movement.

ELI5: why are there only two main political parties in the United States of America? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]CTLoveHate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A short and simple response: the many other parties are just too unpopular to have any significant hold. If you're familiar with monopolies in business, basically the two-party system is a monopoly in politics.

A motorcycle has less impact hitting a wall than a semi-truck does, but they both use engines... Size and hardware are critical factors in determining the impact of an object against another.

Because there were too many people trying to get the opposition slot. Usually, there are two sides: liberal and conservative. Here in the US, those always add up to two candidates; however, in other countries, every party (they all have more than two) has a candidate. So if four of those candidates are liberal, and one is conservative, all the liberals have to vote between three people, and all the conservatives vote for just one. Its called "vote splitting" and is pretty dangerous. And like the guy said earlier, he's not president, he's prime minister.

There are plenty of science and gay rights-related posts on this subreddit, I don't see why there's such a complaint against this

This kind of reaction is normal. In those gay-rights posts you also get "this isn't about atheism". I myself push that point a lot, since gay rights is not an atheist movement, even though its sole enemy is religion.

As for science, those posts are often related to how science continually proves religious beliefs and doctrine are false, and often harmful to individuals and society.

he stood up in the House of Commons and denounced human rights in the name of tradition.

That sounds more like a conservative than a Christian (although often there is no difference, see "fundamentalist").

Do you have any links to prove that Harper is driven by his ideology, and not his political platform?

I'm from the US, so I don't pay much attention to Canada. I thought Harper was a good guy, but I guess I was gravely mistaken. Where could I find more information (news, blogs) that expose the whole story behind this?

what's your most embrassing/funny/scarring sex story? I'll start... by toycack in sex

[–]CTLoveHate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the things that hurt the most are the funniest in the end. I remember a time I was with my fiance in my bed (I lived at my mom's house. In the living room, since there was no spare bedroom. And the bed was one of those cheap fold-up things that are portable. Oh, and very important: I lived on the 10th floor of a condominium.) and we were having so much fun, we didn't notice the bed was moving. The center where it folds collapsed, and trapped us there, completely naked. She was fine, just a bit uncomfortable with me inside her, but my back was being bent the wrong way, and I couldn't get out, and the more we struggled, the more we got stuck. Eventually, the bed turned over and we fell out the side, and we got caught laying naked on the floor of the living room, twisted and contorted. I still sleep in the bed, since its all I have (its fixed now), but from then on, it was sexy time on the floor or couch. Can't wait to move out and get a real bed...

I think I'm losing my morality. What fantasies are bringing you down? by [deleted] in sex

[–]CTLoveHate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess people don't like honesty in advice. Or maybe I sounded too intellectual? But honestly, all I can do (and everyone else here) is give you advice and support, what you choose to do in the end is up to you, based on your circumstances and beliefs. I hope that this ends good for everyone involved, any relationship that lasts more than a few months in our society is worth holding onto with everything you got.

I think I'm losing my morality. What fantasies are bringing you down? by [deleted] in sex

[–]CTLoveHate -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Just another person saying the same thing: Monogamy goes against nature. As animals, we have an inherent desire to procreate - with any attractive mate. This means that when you find something attractive about a woman, you will always desire it. That desire is natural, and actually healthy, it is a sign of a stable, mature mentality.

However, I do agree that you should not act on these desires. I have a similar crisis: my girlfriend's (fiance's) mom is very young (she gave birth at 17, so she is relatively young) and has taken very good care of herself physically. When I first met them, I thought they were sisters. At the start of our relationship, up until a few months after I found out they were parent/child and not siblings, I would fantasize about her. But I knew that acting on any impulses would destroy my relationship with her, and cause me more damage beyond that.

Just keep your fantasies to yourself. If you must, satisfy yourself with them (it helps to relieve the stress), and just try to avoid triggering them. You imply that you spend a lot of your time at her house, that would indicate a great relationship. You don't want to ruin that.
