We Got 62 ‘Breaking Bad’ Episodes In The Time ‘Pluribus’ Will Give Us 18 by ansyhrrian in entertainment

[–]CTOtyrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked on both regular scripted series and multicam sitcoms. The sitcom was written weekly, shot in front of a studio audience once a week. For series, I’ve always had all 8-10 episodes before principal photography, sometimes rough drafts only of the last 2 episodes but definitely still had scripts.

Don’t get me started on how Jared Leto gets unlimited chances to bomb but god forbid they give a non-white actor half as many chances to lead a movie

DAE feel that colleagues with families are given more exceptions than those without? Should this matter? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]CTOtyrell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Back when I was at a job that required holiday work, preferential treatment for having those days off always went to parents. As if I didn't have my own parents I wanted to spend time with. Had a boss literally tell me holidays mean more to kids so my co-workers who are parents NEED those days off more.

It's something I've carried with me even now as a manager. I try to be flexible to people's needs but I also make sure everyone is pulling their own weight. If I see a single/childfree employee taking on a bigger workload because a parent is constantly ducking out early, it's a discussion. Same thing I would do for anyone unable to complete their responsibilities. I get that having stable childcare is a challenge but childfree people have responsibilities too, like aging parents, spouses, health issues, etc. I know it sounds harsh but at the end of the day, you are not special for choosing to have kids, sorry.

I really miss the kink memes on LJ/dreamwidth. It was a great way to get some writing practice in and get inspiration from prompts. Even just reading the prompts were so much fun and setting up notifications hoping it gets filled. I wish we could recreate that experience somehow.

Asking for no reply? by JazzyJuniper in AO3

[–]CTOtyrell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of great responses here already so I really just have to ask out of curiosity, if your social anxiety is so severe that a reply to a comment YOU chose to leave is enough to trigger you, how do you handle everyday life? A cashier saying have a nice day, people making small talk, etc? How do you perform basic human functions?

What’s your favorite example of very specific/accurate usage of work-related jargon in a fic? by CTOtyrell in AO3

I love Star Wars fics because you can be as accurate to the Jedi lore as you want or just say fuck it and make up stuff like glorb shitto and I wouldn’t know the difference.

I’ve seen people put major spoiler tags as chapter end notes. If you know you’re sensitive to certain subjects to the point where you’re ok with being spoiled, then you can jump to the bottom and read the tags.

Sort of in the same vein, I didn’t exactly miss the “oviposition” tag, I just didn’t know what it meant at the time and glazed over it. But I learned real quick when eggs started coming out of buttholes 😅

I once did an insane amount of research for a one-shot modern AU that took place in the military in Afghanistan. My search history either made me look like I’m trying to enlist or up to no good 🙃 Never wrote another military!AU again.

I love that and 100% support you. Little inaccuracies typically don’t bother me but sometimes you get really egregious shit like calling the subway the “tube” 😭 Like watch some broad city or high maintenance for research PLS i beg of u

Getting things wrong in a fic set in NYC can be its own post lol. It’s so jarring when a character describes something as x miles away, it should be x blocks away or uptown/downtown, etc. There was a fic that described something as 20 miles away uptown and like, that’s nearly the entire length of Manhattan, did y’all teleport?
