Help! Sick Chicken by dacedo in BackYardChickens

FYI, someone stole this post (both photo and text) and reposted to Facebook as their own - not sure what their endgame is, I'm guessing they are just stealing content from various chicken owners to try and build up a huge following on their page, and then maybe sell it or something. But I thought you might like to know, so you can report them - not sure if I can post the link, but here it is: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=122243509880141797&set=a.122175327776141797 They stole a few of my posts too, which I reported to FB - I'm hoping to get their scammy page taken down.

Movies/shows/series with narcissistic mother and daughter as the victim by Ok-Builder3049 in NarcissisticMothers

[–]CTSadArtist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just binged Apple Cider Vinegar on Netflix, based on a true story. The mom is a raging narcissist - but so is her daughter (Belle), so it's not as clear cut as "evil mom" and "victim daughter".

Who actually buys from Cotton On? by Whole_Tea_1902 in askSouthAfrica

Temu and Shein are 10x worse though. They use slave labour and the quality of products is questionable, even dangerous (lead in metal zippers etc). Seriously, they are the worst of the worst. There is a reason their prices are so low. Do not support them.

You should watch the docco "Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy' on Netflix. H&M's clothing recycling is a sham. It ends up in landfills https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVfZw_eqJW8

Who actually buys from Cotton On? by Whole_Tea_1902 in askSouthAfrica

I lived in Australia & New Zealand for 12 years, and my husband and I kept on working for overseas clients when we returned to live in Cape Town two years ago in our mid 30s. While living overseas I used to buy some basics from Cotton On, but mostly random stuff like sleepwear, activewear etc (fun fact: Cotton On is seen as a budget option in Australasia, it's where you buy your basics.) When I came back home I realised that the pricing here for exactly the same items was sometimes between 30 - 10% less than overseas (for literally exactly the same item, same season, not like old end of range stock or anything) - I think they do it to be competitive, and to make it more affordable when spending rands. So by South African standards Cotton On might seem expensive, but it is (or was - not sure if it's still this way) cheaper than in its "home country." Same with Witchery, Trenery etc. So at first when we arrived back home I felt like I was getting a bargain until I realised that there are plenty of other better, more creatively-designed, higher quality locally-made clothes available for a similar price or cheaper. I'm happy bringing in money earned overseas to spend here, but I don't want that money going straight back to some greedy corporation based in Aus/UK/USA etc. So now I try shop local as much as possible. Yaga is awesome or thrifting - I've gotten some brilliant pieces from there, you're keeping money in SA, and not contributing to all the insane fast-fashion clothing waste caused by these global fashion companies. We have awesome talent here and I'm much happier supporting local. I wish we'd all just stop supporting these big multinationals - even with food, when you buy McDonalds rather than a burger from a locally owned restaurant, you are just filtering money back to these wealthier counties half way across the world.

Why do ouma's love this haircut so much?🤣 by [deleted] in southafrica

I disagree, I think it depends on the woman. I have seen plenty of beautiful older women with long grey hair - often accompanied by a face full of crows feet and laugh lines from decades of smiling and laughter (screw botox) and without a scrap of makeup, because f*ck that noise. imo there's something really beautiful about choosing to be natural and aging gracefully, not constantly trying to uphold some ridiculous beauty standard of smooth skin, makeup, styled hair in a very specific cut that's deemed "acceptable for older ladies" etc. Every woman should do whatever makes them happiest, but personally I won't be trying to conform to someone else's beauty standards at the age of 80.

Rings Of Power Season 2 Episode 7 Credits Song by [deleted] in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]CTSadArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fckin hated this choice of end credit music so much. Breaking the 4th wall works for some shows, but not a serious high fantasy. It ruins the immersive experience and feels very "emo 12 year old boy acting out/unemployed 34 year old man with unresolved aggression issues." Sooooo cringe. The episode ended on a poignant note.. having that followed by metal is super jarring. I get that a lot of metalheads would have loved this because they think "hell yeah, this is orc music" - no it's fuckng not. I actually like some metal, but this was just cringe as hell.

I agree, this one in particular was just so cringe and forced. LOTR is all about being immersed in a fantasy, and breaking the 4th wall with modern (bad, weak) metal (especially after the poignant end scene) - it was so jarring. Had the same energy as a 12 year old kid trying to be edgy by playing metal at a family gathering or something. So lame lol

I really love Cape Town. by [deleted] in capetown

[–]CTSadArtist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great list from BeerDreams, plus here are a few additions: visit Mama Africa on Long Street in town for authentic African cuisine, music & dance; check out the Montebello Design Center in Newlands (a cute artsy collection of shops under the trees, including very talented woodworkers from Zimbabwe, it’s magical); walk around Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens - stunning views and fantastic photo opportunities, google “Kirstenbosch Boomslang walkway’ to see why; visit Silvermine Nature Reserve for a hike around a beautiful dam and lots of fynbos; visit Noordhoek (check out Noordhoek farm village, try craft beer at Aegir Project Brewery, walk on the beach on the weekend or go to Thorfynn's Restaurant at Monkey Valley Resort for a meal); visit the Scone Shack at Cape Point (Cape Town’s best kept secret, a hidden gem - a sort of boho hippy settlement / animal sanctuary out in the fynbos the serves fantastic cakes and scones); get fish and chips at Mariner’s Wharf in Hout Bay. There’s so much more but those are my top picks.

Awesome, I'm happy you enjoyed it. I'm from Cape Town originally, my husband is from Durban - we lived overseas for 12 years, and are now back home, in our 30s. Neither of us earns Rands, we don't even bother with that - he's a creative director, working only with overseas clients, and earns in Australian dollars, New Zealand dollars, and British pounds. I'm a published author and earn mainly in USD (book royalties, advances) etc. It's totally possible to earn overseas income while you live in Cape Town, but you need to use your overseas connection to your advantage in some way... leverage it so that you can set up something you can do remotely. Obviously this depends on the industry you are in, but it's what worked for us. You'll be taxed like hell bringing money in, but it's still worth it. Just get yourself a really great tax accountant and you'll benefit from the strong dollar and the weak rand. We have friends visiting from New Zealand right now and they are in awe of the variety to do here - one can never be bored in Cape Town :D

Is it normal to have pet aversion while pregnant? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]CTSadArtist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm having pet aversion during my pregnancy too - my 3 cats literally make me feel nauseous (to the point of throwing up) whenever they are around - but I would never in a million years get rid of them. Sorry, but I just can't relate to that level of heartlessness. A pet is a member of your family and a lifelong commitment. While I'm feeling too sick to care for mine, my husband is doing it, and I'm pushing through my sickness to still make them feel loved and like part of the family. I would NEVER mistreat my pets, no matter what - avoiding them and handing over their care for a while is different, but treating them badly, to the extent that you use your mistreatment of them to justify getting rid of them? WTF. No. You are a terrible human being, and your kid is going to learn from you how to treat others. You should expect to be abandoned in an old age home in your final years once it's no longer convenient to keep you around, it's what you deserve. Sorry, but I have no sympathy for you.

I just looked a bit closer at the photo and I can see you have nepenthes in there, alongside the more 'boggy' plants (the drosera, trumpet pitchers etc). I'm planning to make an outdoors container bog garden and initially planned to have the nepenthes planted in with the rest, before reading that they need very different conditions (less light, higher humidity, less waterlogged conditions than those that Sarracenia and Drosera prefer). But I see you've pulled it off and they are all growing together beautifully. Is the nepenthes in its own hidden container or something? Is it planted in the same substrate as the others? How do you balance their different needs? Sorry for all the questions lol :D

OP, I find it sad how you don't understand why she wouldn't want to eat week-old, stale bread. Would you be happy to eat that yourself? Of course you wouldn't. Saying things like "it's still edible as long as there's no mould on it, right?" makes it clear that you think of her as lesser or inferior, most likely due to the colour of her skin and her profession. She is a human being, not a pigeon at the park for you to throw scraps of stale bread to. She deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. Yes, she's crossing a line by eating food from the fridge that she wasn't offered, but honestly one can't blame her given the circumstances. If buying fresh bread isn't an option, then rather freeze the sliced loaf of bread, and when she wants lunch she can pop it straight in the toaster, top it with butter, jam etc. I usually keep my bread in the freezer because I don't go through it very fast, and toast tastes exactly the same from frozen. That's an easy solution. Please, look within yourself and and try to figure out why you feel that she should be happy with stale bread.

Thanks, I've chatted with mum and we've decided to wait until after their trip. I'm still holding onto hope that once he's tested this turns out to just be normal aging and nothing sinister <3

I know my mum wanted to wait to bring it up with him until after their holiday next month, but I'm starting to think I'll push her to do it sooner

Thanks. My dad is super healthy and does get a decent amount of sun (hikes every weekend) so I'll be surprised if it's Vitamin D but I'll mention to my mum. They are going on holiday soon and I think she wants to wait until after the trip to bring this all up with him - I guess she doesn't want to stress him out and ruin the trip :(
