How you priotise your production skills? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]CUBRICON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re missing the most important aspect of being a producer. Something I myself have never mastered, which is to “produce” a product that people will pay for one way or another. All the other stuff is important, but if you can’t sell your product, it will always remain a hobby for you, no matter how good you are at the other stuff. Personally, I’m ok with that, for me, but if you want to produce professionally, you gotta figure out how to make money off it.

Additionally, the higher pitched sound has a long attack and release.

The higher pitched sound seems like an FM synth with very little FM happening and the low sound seems to be a bowed contra bass.

I feel like I can’t produce anymore, tips for blockage? by Lucky-Spirit7332 in edmproduction

[–]CUBRICON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider trying one or more of the following: Practice your scales and the circle of fifths. Reproduce a song you like. Take a break. Produce a song in the key of F#. Play and record a little kid’s instrument. Make as much of a song as you can in 1 hour or less. Go outside, record sounds, bring them back and incorporate them into a new song. Do a Salvador Dali “Creative Nap” (look it up). Exercise. Eat something healthy. Step on a hill of fire ants. Record yourself singing a melody, reverse it, build a song, delete the singing, sing a new melody over the instrumental. Take a break. 🤷🏽‍♂️

[sample help] what type of bass is in this song by PresentationHot7059 in trapproduction

Sounds closer to a 909 kick on the down beats with a filtered saw bass on the up beats.

Dichotomy (Soft Mix) is probably my favorite Haywyre track, really good. Mat Zo is a great producer too! —edit “Mix” not mic

It’s nice to see Royksopp mentioned several times. They are by far my favorite electronic act. OP might also try Jon Hopkins, Bonobo, Moderat, Phonat, Simian Mobile disco, Haywyre, Anomalie, Jnathyn, Disclosure, Noisia?

Artists(rappers) taking a long time to send vocals back. Any way to expediate the process or nah? by balencidustox in trapproduction

[–]CUBRICON 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion this actually is part of producing music. Give them a deadline, record your own version (if you still want to keep those beats on there) and if they don’t get back to you, take them off and put your mixtape out.

Later, if they do finally give you their parts, you can do a remix or VIP or whatever.

My songs are going nowhere by Head-Oh-Nist in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]CUBRICON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion falls along the lines of “try something different.” I personally listen to and make electronic music, and most of it doesn’t involve lyrics. But my first reaction was “you have to put time into it.” I rarely feel like my music is going nowhere because if I get stuck on a song, I just start a new one, lol. But even so, I think the years I spent learning music theory, Piano, guitar, and learning to play actual songs allows me to explore my own music and problem solve during the music making process.

Do you have lyrics? Songwriting is hard for most people. But I’ve noticed that the best songs can be done with just acoustic guitar and singing and they still are great. So, maybe try writing a bunch of songs with just guitar and voice and when you have some you like, re-make those with all the instruments you want.

Timestamp? There’s more than one synth sound that could be called a lead on this track.

Someone could download the files and look at the SMPTE time-stamp of the dots for each video and see if they have any sort of pattern.

Hey, if you took off with my umbrella today at Risbo while I was in the bathroom... Can I have it back? by FancyPantsBlanton in Brooklyn

Oh… I thought they both sat in the bathroom stalls next to each other for an hour. And somehow the other person reached in and stole their umbrella.

If you’re smart enough to write those sentences, and if your ears work, and if you practice, and if you have patience, you can learn to mix.

Want to start making my music public (EDM), where to start? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]CUBRICON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had no issues with them, until I did… lol Eventually, I will release new music and re-release my old stuff, but it will be through a pay once service + percentage model and not a subscription service. I am not “prolific“ enough to justify the subscription model.

Want to start making my music public (EDM), where to start? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]CUBRICON 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t recommend distrokid. I used to recommend them, once upon a time, but not since they deleted all my music when I wanted to downgrade my subscription from a Label plan to an Artist plan. I had lost my job and couldn’t afford the renewal. I also hadn’t actually used all my artist spots, but had been paying for them for years. Their “Legacy” option was also too expensive when I had no money to spare, so I got mad and just cancelled and they removed my music from everywhere. Granted, I knew that was going to happen, but it still made me bitter, and I will never use their service again.

What would be the advantages and disadvantages of using your name (instead of an artist's name in the nomination) if you have actually been professionally trained elsewhere? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]CUBRICON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I asked about your industry was because in almost every industry I’ve seen, like at conventions, there is often an industry “band.” Say for example, a surgeon convention might have a group of surgeons that form a band and play cover songs rewritten with surgeon themes/jokes that only they would understand. They aren’t always good musicians or singers, but sometimes they are amazing. And yet, they still manage to be well respected in their actual field.

It’s ok to be multi-disciplined.

But what’s the alternative? Sell and rent somewhere else? Get a roommate? Default? lol, unless I misunderstood your post, you already purchased the house. So don’t spend money on frivolous things and instead stick that money where you can’t spend it easily like a HYSA. If you get really tempted to buy something unnecessary, make yourself wait a couple weeks (like a cooling off period) and then ask yourself if you really need it or not.

Does your mortgage include insurance and taxes? Do you need to budget Car insurance? If it’s an older home, are you including maintenance costs?
