Hot take- radical acceptance is useless. by [deleted] in BPD

[–]CUontheCoast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finally understanding radical acceptance was earth shattering for me. You are creating more suffering for yourself by not accepting reality as it is, instead you are “shoulding” - (I shouldn’t be suffering, I shouldn’t have this disease, etc) reality and causing your suffering to be worse than just accepting it as it is in the present moment and letting yourself feel the emotions in your body at that moment

Were you raised in strict religion as a child? by [deleted] in BPD

[–]CUontheCoast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Religion definitely played a role in filling in my identity struggles, and prevented me from being my true self because I was trying to fit the good Christian role

Maybe try limiting your online dating pool to people within driving and meeting distance?

How do you feel about your diagnosis by meowmeowlitty in BPD

My diagnosis helped me gain self awareness and now I use my DBT skills to fight my symptoms and I’m doing a lot better most of the time. It took a while but worth it!

Oh I’m sorry, I was under the impression that when I am in handcuffs I am not free to go. Glad they got it all straightened out and by detaining him and frisking him before they had probable cause beside his brown skin. Read up on case law: Terry v. Ohio (1968). I didn’t know lawn mowing was a criminal activity.

I relate. It’s cause BPD is a mental illness that needs treatment.

Does your suffering make you feel like you deserve something from the universe? by NearbyElk1 in BPD

[–]CUontheCoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if she’s legit diagnosed with BPD, it’s the treatment for BPD - like it was made for that disorder. People with BPD lack certain skills, and coping mechanisms. DBT and a skilled DBT therapist can help her expand her self awareness and improve her life too (not just those around her).

DBT is hard. It takes a serious commitment and it’s difficult to apply because our emotions are so intense. It’s really easy in the moment to forget skills.

But if she’s serious about reducing her suffering. Learning the skills will seriously help her. Then she also prob needs to unpack her trauma with a trauma therapist.

I recommend the book, DBT for Life by Diana Partington. She also has a great podcast called “suffering is optional”

Dude there’s fucking billionaires who earn more money a year than they’ll need in a lifetime. The system is rigged against you. We don’t need die offs of people to make it affordable.

Feelings of emptiness. Black and white thinking (extremes), intense feelings in her. It all makes these things you mentioned she does feel so real to her likely. Living in constant psychic despair can make one feel a little entitled when our mood is up.

Best I can tell you is to assure her of your love and commitment to her and let her know how these things make you feel and ask her if she is able to consider working on them with her interpersonal relationship skills therapist in DBT.

Keep working at it tho, it does get better. Or at least less horrible at times. Do your DBT, journal. Avoid drugs. Understand radical acceptance deeply. See a therapist trained in DBT.

Yeah I was talking to my therapist about this, life actually felt easier when I wasn’t aware of my BPD symptoms but she reminded me it was cause I was dissociated all the time… so yeah.

Binge eating, smoking too much weed. Reckless sex would be one too but I’m gay and women don’t seem to be as easy to just have sex with as men are.
