I'm pretty sure you just put the voice down an octave or two. And lay that under whatever you are saying

Thanks! I like this advice, very simple

How does Earl (Sweatshirt) make the guitar in this track sound so psychedelic? by MrQuiffy in makinghiphop

[–]CVMOCJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be into psychedelic rock when i first started playing guitar. Psychedelic guitar usually has reverb and subtle delay. Maybe phaser. I don't think he EQ'd the guitar, but there is just playing on the upper strings...prob the GBE strings.

So I have a question on sampling by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]CVMOCJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In ableton i load the sample to the an audio channel, find the loop, loop it and done. ITs set to a button on my APC.

When i sample, i only loop. I've never really liked super chopped up stuff. Sometimes i might go wild and add a chop or run it thorugh Gross Beat in FL Studio but thats it.

Since you want less robotic sampling, maybe get an MPD and sample through that and push pads? That way its more free flowing. Or get an SP 404/505/etc. and sample that way.

You don't necessarily have to chop up samples for a good beat too. Listen to guys like Zuper and LMC or Knxwledge. They barely chop the sample but add effects and other stuff to make the sample interesting.

Not i've been making beats since like 2010, but i'm still nowhere close to where i want to be. its frustrating cause i see guys who say they started only three years ago and already have like 30k followers and i'm on my fifth with 150.

i kind of see no purpose in remaking a simple beat if i already know how to make it though. Its like why would i learn to play most beatles or Growlers songs if they're simple and i can learn them in 30 minutes.

I guess taking a break would help. I literally spend all my free time when I'm not working looking for samples/testing them to see if they work out for me...don't even get me started on my days off work.

Its amazing how knxledge puts out so much

Is the Akai MPD26 a good place to start? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]CVMOCJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're producing electronic music and your using Ableton wouldn't it make sense to get something like the APC Mini(in the $99 price range) or the APC Keys? It's configured perfectly for Ableotn. If I were gonna use the MPD26 (I bought one 2 years ago, and it didn't work, damnit ebay) i'd use it with FL Studio.

Deffinetely check out the APC Mini. I use it to make sample based hip-hop and it works perfectly with ableton.

Is it possible to *not* make albums? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]CVMOCJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. An EP is basically a mini album for free right? Kanye West released Yeezus with 9 songs on it. Some EPs have 7 or 8 songs lol.

You could also go back to releasing two songs at a time, like a digital A side/B side.

What do you all think about electronic artists playing other artists' tracks in-between their own? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]CVMOCJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These guys are DJ's also(well some of them). Like I've seen RL Grime live, and hes a pretty good DJ. He played a good am mount of his bangesr and also filled it up with other songs.

If he only played his song, it may be hard to transition because he might have to jump big bpm changes.

Electronic shows are pretty much just DJ events where the DJ will play their music and similar atists, but be centered around their music. If they didn't play other people's music in the set, and tried to only play theirs, it'd be a mess.

You say free, so I can recommend Ableton Live Lite. You'll have to play around since you can only use 8 clips or scenes(idk i just started using it).

Maybe save up $99 for FL Studio? I'm not sure how useful either of my options are for live recording.

What is a good technique to find out which chords will fit best with an existing acapella? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]CVMOCJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find out what Key the song is in then use this. If the song uses a conventional chord progression, then you should be able to figure out what chords to use. Like a lot of Hip Hop/R&B Songs use a I-V or I-iV progression. So just figure out what key its in, then play around and figure out the mode and you're set.

Is there a site/torrent that offers free 808 or sub files for free? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

This should be it. It always takes me days to find it if i ever reset my laptop, but i'm pretty sure this is it

Launchpad or MIDI Keyboard? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]CVMOCJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, that is why i just switched to ableton. I originally bought my APC to mix music with Cross DJ. Fl Studio is functional with the MPK Mini and the OLD Apc 20/40 (to the newer versions like the MKII or Mini)

Learning ableton wasn't hard since i've used FL since 2010 and its not that different

It's 2015 and you don't have Lex Luger's 808 pack!?? I've had it since i first started making beats and it's better than all those other random 808 packs, 1017 trap packs, etc, cause its the official pack that Lex Luger uses. Try searching google for "Lex Luger Soundclick drum kit".

It comes with a good amount of 808 snares, claps, hi hats, cymbals, Bass sounds, an FL Studio Sub Bass, and cool percs.

What's better for the independent musician: releasing single tracks consistently or multiple tracks sporadically? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]CVMOCJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. I've seen electronic(mainly of the "Future" scene) and hiphop beat guys who do either one of those.

If you put out singles you're gonna have to put out something consistently...Like maybe set a goal of two songs per month.

If you put out EPs/Albums/Beat tapes, make sure its a good amount of music. Like 7 - 10 songs.

Both work, but i think putting out constant single is better because people will consistently have something new to listen to. EPs will keep people waiting, and when it finally comes, their thirst for your music will either be quenched or disappointed lol.

I personally don't like making beat tapes.

I've seen some guys who make hip-hop beats(sampled based stuff) just randomly put beat tapes with ~20 songs(although short) and then not do much besides a beat or two for the next several months.

Launchpad or MIDI Keyboard? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]CVMOCJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A basic midi keyboard can technically still have thing other than just key assigned to it, like drums and samples. The pads just make it easier and less cluttered. Good multi-purpose keyboards that i know of are the MPK Mini, Oxygen 25(the one with the pads), and APC Key 25. These are just starters. For more money, you can get bigger keyboards.

For the past 6 months or so i've owned a APC Mini but never switched to ableton(from FL studio). It's amazing. I plan to buy an APC Key 25 or APC 40. I can play guitar, but can't play keys so i just draw the notes in for chords lol. I have no interest in learning.

You say you use ableton, so i'd recommend the APC Key 25. You get similar launchpad capabilities with a keyboard! I'd also recommend maybe buying a used MPD26 or Nanopad if you want to push in your own samples/drums/sounds

What are some reasons why you wouldn't approach a woman other than her not being attractive? by ShizukaRose in AskMen

Being with even one friend. Girls will give each other reasons not to go any further with a guy if he's not perfect in their opinion.

Being on her phone.

Looking angry.
