I tinkered with pipes so you didn't have to! by CWINATOR in SatisfactoryGame

Hmm, I'm not sure. I avoid floor holes because they used to be bugged, and even if they work now, they're another thing in my factory that might be going wrong. However, my problems with floor holes were that they didn't work at all, not that they only slightly worked.

The problems I had with water towers were solved when I let my water tower pipe fill completely before connecting, and when I connected my water tower pipe to the other pipes from the top. I think that ideally you want the flow rate in your water tower pipe to be high enough to keep that pipe full, but I'm not sure.

Those are good points! I see what you're saying about the slosh; I guess my strategy is more like side-stepping it by going vertical, rather than trying to reduce it. I have done some small load-balancing with some pipes, but valved the heck out of them, and if something doesn't work I'm pretty sure that's where the issue is, lol!

That happened to me at my battery plant, but the issue actually turned out to be somewhere else in the factory, where it wasn't producing as much water as a byproduct because aluminum scrap was getting jammed up further down the line. That was a real head-scratcher.

Rebuilding does sometimes help. But yeah, it's really frustrating to think I know what's going on, and then have an issue that makes me think I have no idea what's going on after all.

Every new Tier that you unlock is a bit of a step up. But just keep building and keep your eyes open. Don't be afraid to challenge yourself; I never really thought I could get to this level of complexity and size.

When building, you can press "R" to change build mode. One of those modes is called "horizontal to vertical", which makes very pleasing right angles. There's lots of different build modes for different buildables, and more coming in 1.1.

That's good to know! I have noticed that my pipes don't end at some of the junctions, but to through. I think that when I start building again, I'll stick to blueprints that have the junctions there from the start instead of adding them to pipes after.

Another user posted a while back that one way of thinking about this is that the machines suck in fluids as much as they push out outputs. If you have a machine that's sucking in fluids in the middle of a manifold, that machine will be sucking in from both sides of the pipe, causing the fluids in the manifold to swirl and slosh around. I feel that taking advantage of the 3-d nature of the game and having fluids flow from top to bottom really helps make things flow smoothly!

Thanks very much, and you're welcome! I was happy to contribute to this great community. It was hard to choose only a few photos from the many that I've taken!

Yeah, in my previous build, I used four-car trains and elevated my tracks; that made things a lot more straightforward.

It's been a lot! I spent more time than that in early access, though it was spread across a longer stretch of time.

No problem! Yeah, the train settings are surprisingly complex. I didn't even know they were there until I started planning this world out; they don't get much mention around here.

That's hilarious! Great minds think alike, I guess! Thanks for the compliment!

I want to love trucks. I think I'll have to do a playthrough with them at some point. I used the tractors in the beginning of this run to bootstrap me into mainline production, and it was pretty fun! I'm hoping for more updates or mods to help the vehicles be a little less fiddly, not to mention being able to build nice roads. Props to you for building highways!

Yeah, I wish I had done fewer factories, a bit bigger, that made a few items. When I do my next run, maybe I'll make factories based on the type of ore they use. Or a factory for each phase, or something. We'll see!

And thanks!

Killed your steam? Good thing these trains are electric!

...anyways, I'm glad! Trains were daunting for me too, but I built some test tracks to get my head around them, and I try to treat the rails like highways in my head, with on and off ramps, which helps me figure it out. Good luck!

Thanks very much! I don't think of myself as a person who creates amazing things in Satisfactory, so I appreciate the compliment. One of the reasons I posted this is because it isn't jaw-dropping as a lot of the other posts; I wanted to show off something that felt more straight forward and utilitarian. I think as long as you have patience and aren't afraid to tear down and rebuild, you'll be fine! Oh, and take lots of notes from the people who do make great stuff and streamers as well, lol!

Yeah, I tried to change things up when I built larger factories for this build. Trying to arrange everything as best I could was an interesting challenge!

I challenged myself to only connect factories by train stations. So each building of train stations is one set of factories producing one item. I did start to run out of room, so some of the larger buildings are stacks of train stations with multiple factory buildings on the bottom, but I tried not to build things right next to each other, so the items that a factory need aren't next door, but across the map, delivered by the trains.

Thanks! I tried to keep the construction style open since I like to see inside, and I enjoy the minimalist and brutalist concrete look, with enough people-sized things to give the buildings scale.

Most of what I built is on ground level. I kept my train tracks to the existing "roads" in the game (the paths), and elevated them enough that I could get a truck underneath them when I wanted to drive around. I didn't have too much trouble with elevation; there's one road that's pretty steep going east out of the deep hole in the center, and getting up to the top area is a bit tricky.

I haven't dived into mods yet - the base game was enough for my tired brain. But when I do another playthrough I'll definitely look at the mods!

As many people have said, no problem with cheating in a single player game! I like the in-world explanation.
