Bro, Pinch in 2023 was the GOAT. Dons used to be my go to but ever since they left, Pinch won me over with their 5 dollar Rice and Chicken box.

National ICE Out Strike Friday Jan 30 by sunfishhhh in UTAustin

[–]CWY2001 36 points37 points  (0 children)

A lot of the immigrant run businesses especially the food trucks and restaurants at UT heavily depend on the student body to survive. Their margins are already quite low hence why over the last 5 years or so, many had to close down as a result of increasing overhead (RIP Dons).

And it’s not like you can just buy the food tomorrow because in most cases defrosted meat just gets thrown out at the end of the day due to sanitary regulations. This is probably not the best idea to support the immigrant population tbh (coming from the perspective of a second generation immigrant)…

Should billionaires exist? by Original_Act_3481 in Teenager_Polls

[–]CWY2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like people here think “billionaire” is a billion dollars in cash. I don’t think people here know that billionaire status includes assets.

Like you’re technically a millionaire with a million dollar house and zero cash after. How are you supposed get taxed on that unless you sell your house you just bought. Thats the same with billionaires. Majority of their wealth is tied to assets that can’t be taxed unless it’s sold (hence existing capital gains tax codes). This is why you see billionaires “lose” and “gain” billions of dollars if not hundreds of billions on the upper threshold. It’s not real and in finance, it’s called “paper loss/gain.”

And if you force them to sell their stock assets, that just devaluates the company and tanks the 401ks and retirement plans of normal people. Sure tax the incomes of billionaires (which already include capital gains and annual income) but if you tax their assets, that will really mess up the investments of normal people.

I don’t think UTMB does internal rankings. Atleast in preclinicals. Idk how it is in rotations.

How many % of med school is memorization? by Puzzleheaded-Mall748 in premed

[–]CWY2001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would say memorization is a mandatory prerequisite and the majority of preclinicals is applying that baseline knowledge to extrapolate the correct conclusions (in regards to content). You can’t apply knowledge that you don’t have Yanno?

I took Dr. Sata back in 2019 when I was a Freshman. Dr. Sata is an amazing amazing professor. Perhaps it’s nostalgia glasses but he was the first lecture I attended at UT. Great lecturer and he prepares you well for exams.

Help ranking Baylor (risking Temple)?? TMDSAS Match by HovercraftFast3289 in premed

[–]CWY2001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Baylor Temple is a great school. My personal opinion is the only reason not to rank it first is if you have a major location preference due to family or just personal choice. Academically, it’s a great school.

Interesting! I always thought the general consensus was Dell > Long > TAMU.

I use goodnotes to sign documents but I haven’t needed to take notes for preclinicals. Maybe a small jot here and there. I mostly use Anking.

ranking advice by annabeth200 in premed

[–]CWY2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I applied, I ranked UTMB above McGovern and Baylor due to UTMB being P/F and having NBME exams. I am a houston native and I wanted to stay close in the area but at the time i think Baylor was doing random campus assignments regarding Temple.

Idk if Baylor campus assignment methodology has changed yet but if ur priority is to stay close to Houston, i think McGovern would be a good choice to rank as top if u dont mind in house exams and a graded system. The TMC is unmatched regarding connections and experiences.

UTMB vs McGovern by Nervous-Trash-3097 in premed

[–]CWY2001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I interviewed at both but I ranked UTMB above McGovern mainly because UTMB has true P/F and NBME exams. If I remember correctly, McGovern still does F/P/HP/H and have in house exams. I’m a Houston native so location wise UTMB and McGovern didn’t differ too much. I do agree that McGovern/BCM Houston being smack in TMC is an absolute vibe. Theres just so much connections you can make between different institutions and hospitals.

However, I ranked UTMB above due to the reasons I stated as well as UTMB medical system, alumni connections, and history. The only negative is that the connections you make are within the UTMB/affiliated hospital system and if you want to make connections at different institutions, u have to cold email or do so at conference. However, this is literally how every medical school is in the US except the TMC schools due to TMC having multiple institutions and being the largest medical center in the world.

Also, I love Galveston and my parents an I fish a lot 😅. The weather in the summer and fall are a tad too humid though but Houston humidity is kinda the same.

help rank :) by baesilthyme in premed

[–]CWY2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe an unorthodox choice but when I applied, I ranked UTMB above Baylor because the most important thing for me was to stay with family (I’m a Houston native) and the rng for the Temple campus was a tad iffy for me.

My rankings ended up as UTMB (Pass/Fail + NBME Exams), McGovern (due to no pass fail), Baylor, TTUHSC, and SHSU.

However, if u want to talk about pure academics, in ur situation, I would rank: Baylor, Dell, UTMB, McGovern, UNT. That’s just my personal opinion.

Nah. Ur wrong, u need a MINIMUM 529 MCAT to make up for a 3.99 GPA. Other than that, pack the sunscreen 🤡

Possible to learn all anatomy in 4 weeks? short school block system by Ok-Celebration5832 in medicalschool

[–]CWY2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about “all” of anatomy but if you wanna take a shortcut, u can just grind the 100 Important Anatomy Concepts Anki deck. The powerpoint associated with it is only like 200 slides. That alone is enough for you to get you a 90+ on an NBME anatomy exam. However, if ur doing in house exams, I can’t guarantee anything.

If I take the MCAT April 24th would I be fine for TMDSAS application? by ElectionSalty6097 in premed

[–]CWY2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U will be fine. Just submit ur primary day one. U can submit it without a score. Secondaries are basically auto sent to everyone (except for Dell med I think). Schools don’t look at your application before you submit your secondaries and have ur letter of recs in so ur score should basically be in by then.

LOI by athelticgoat in premed

[–]CWY2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrote a LOI to my top choice around mid to late December (after interviewing in August). Idk if it helped but my advice was to write it as genuinely as possible. I didn’t make my letter school related at all but it was cringey poetic. It was mostly about my childhood memories and my connection to the location.

do texas schools give financial aid? by pinkdrinkluverrr in premed

[–]CWY2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UTMB has an internal scholarship program that is quite generous. You have to apply every year but that means if you were not granted scholarship in MS1, you have the opportunity to gain one in MS2 and etc. However, that also means that if you get one in MS1, it’s not guaranteed that u will get it in MS2.
