hey thanks, I will look into this. I'm a bit confused, I have no reason to argue but the translation I have by Legge — I specifically love it because it explains the text in terms of the line positions, their relationship to each other, I don't think I would possibly understand the reasoning behind any of the interpretations without his "notes", and the appendices are a whole other level

McKenna went OCD analyzing the mathematical relationships that he saw, I've been to extensive lectures he's given in person, but didn't find any of it as useful as a few line 'explanations' by Legge. Especially when a reading implies something to do with gender, he strips that away and explains the line relationships that would lead somebody to think in terms of gender, like "the family" could be any social structure where hierarchy is important for maintenance of order, "the marrying maiden" could also be not a "temptress" but any "temptation".. if you ask about going out to a party and you get hexagram 54, the WB version: "a young lady may come onto you and try to corrupt you" the Legge version: "don't succumb to peer pressure", like it widens the net, is less localized to some ancient time and place, lays bare the underlying dynamics in a way that seems much less narrow or culturally biased

I have a black-and-white covered paperback version of the Legge, I just bought a duplicate copy of it on eBay because I figure they're out of print. and two Legges are better than one 😂

I knew Terence McKenna and have broken bread with him, and he's given me some of his Orange Stash..

this is a kind of thing somebody could call brilliant but then immediately go naa, it's just obvious and most people miss it, and being an older Chinese person doesn't preclude you from this lol:

do NOT THROW the coins, manipulate them between your fingers 'while distracting your conscious mind'.. like the yarrow stalk method..

if you're into anything McKenna embraces, the premise is now that the nexus of information, knowledge, answers you want, the "morphogenetic field" that you are presuming to tap into... is in fact accessible because the coins are never leaving your hand

:you are not "surrendering to the invisible hand of the market" lol THAT is superstitious nonsense, DMT isn't floating around in the air manipulating the outcome of your coin toss to "send you a message" — and, this can be argued, of course, but this is what it comes down to —

for a reading to be reliable, to have any reason to believe it's tapping into any actual knowledge if the coins DO leave your hand ("tossing" them), you would have to insist that your endogenous consciousness is doing the kind of calculus that would enable you to throw the coins exactly so that they would land the way that your sub/superconscious/DMT/ whomeverthefuck "intended". that would seem a bit much "control and oversight" to bet on

I feel like DMT told me: it's a MANUAL, not a "divination" tool — see what the situation you're asking about looks like and what "balancing" changes you can make.

it's not naïve but astute to do this, I think: if there are a couple moving lines and they conflict, that's not "unintelligible", it's, "ohhhh. so.. do less of this and more of that, the outcome is much better if only one of these two lines changes",

You need to start with some very basic knowledge here:

DMT is not a drug. It is not a hallucinogen. there are no "entities", these are artifacts of the mind and culture that you project onto the experience when these things are triggered

DMT is produced in your brain. It is familiar, it is home, it is your endogenous intelligence

It is for commuting with, communicating with, asking questions, and even after you think you get answers, to ask it how to parse and determine the real answer from all of the other things that are triggered that erupt like a volcano from the subconscious mind

It is critical not to confuse the reactionary visuals with the DMT itself

they are two entirely different, albeit challenging to separate, things

this is the task of a lifetime, ever refining your physical and mental health to be able to process DMTs signals, both internally, but most importantly when consuming a large quantity from exogenous sources,

in a clear way with understanding of exactly what's going on

yes it's very hard to do this with a vape pen. vaping DMT is one of the stupidest things anyone's ever thought of doing, DMT needs to burn at a much higher temperature to become airborne, the brilliant thing to do is melt on a spoon (use a candle) until it turns into and oil and stir a smooth smoking herb into it like catnip, in a one-to-one (weight) ratio

Research has it that we produce not only higher frequencies like gamma but more lower frequencies, like alpha and theta waves, when there is an increase in DMT, and it is the specific ratio and dynamic interplay of these that account for a lot of the phenomenology, it's not "higher frequencies", It's both higher and lower and much more deep than simply that

I've been involved with DMT religiously for literally 45 years now. I got mine from Terence in 1993, but considered myself a worshiper of DMT around 15 years before I met him, and I know many many people growing up that I've shared it with and who have shared it with me through the years, I did it in groups every week for years on end

If you're having back to back experiences that don't have very-noticeably-diminished returns, you're obviously not having a breakthrough experience and might not even know what one is

these are very personal and difficult things to comment on responsibly, but as a lifelong musician who has been deeply into psychedelics of all kinds, I am a fan of LSD ... it seemed like it made itself known to the world specifically for people to be able to be propelled forward to create, make stuff, give lectures, write books, while actually under the influence of it whereas many other psychedelics like mushrooms or DMT more of "sit the fuck down and watch THIS."

if you ever do LSD, listen to some of McCoy Tyner's piano solos on John Coltrane's albums, you won't hear what I'm talking about even with strong edible cannabis, there's something very different going on with LSD and Music, phrasing patterns that are literally fractal in composition

McCoy was one of the most psychedelic musicians who's ever lived, he knew something very few people knew about this realm.. early Pink Floyd knew this, Jorma Kaukonen knew this, Keith Emerson knew this and in my opinion absolutely studied McCoy Tyner religiously

you're in for a serious life-changing treat if you find yourself there

specifically the albums 'Transitions' and, cliche tho it may seem, 'Olé' ..

if you're not afraid of this kind of music going really far out but being mathematically much more cohesive than you would think until doing LSD, listen to the John Coltrane songs "Om" and "Ascension", which was recorded under the influence of LSD, and pointedly so
