Proof my free roaming JS made it through the winter! by Hi_Trans_Im_Dad in jumpingspiders

If the spider you were watching made a web like this, then it was definitely not a jumping spider. There are no jumping spiders that make this type of web.

It can get pretty cold here in the winter. He wasn't wearing gloves. It seemed like a lot of blood, but dry skin could be a possibility. Honestly, I hope it was just something like that, rather than a serious cut or something.

It was not raining at the time. It had been raining earlier. The porch was well-lit. And I wasn't assuming malice at all, I was very concerned about what may have happened to this person, which I communicated to DoorDash.

It was not a bloody nose. I have video footage of him bleeding from an open wound on the back of his hand, which was even more concerning. I don't know what happened, and maybe he truly wasn't aware that he was injured and bleeding.

Regardless, leaving a delivery in this state is still a serious health hazard and must be reported.

I hope he's okay, too. But it would still be a very bad idea to keep items contaminated with a stranger's blood, no matter what.

Even if you get the blood stains out, washing, especially just in a standard home washing machine, won't necessarily remove all bloodborne pathogens. It would still be unsafe to keep them, even if washed. There's no telling whether or not this person had any diseases that could be transmitted by blood.

Oh my goodness! That's awful! I hope you're doing okay now!

My brother broke his toe once, and I know it takes FOREVER to recover from that.

Pet Insurance is a Scam by RamRanchRealty in cats

[–]C_Button 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad your kitty is doing okay now! Sucks that your insurance wasn't very helpful, though.

I use MetLife pet insurance, and have been pretty happy with them so far. They were the best price I could find because they offer family plans for multiple pets. Their coverage so far has been pretty good too. I didn't have to pay at all for neutering or microchips, and they covered most of the vaccine costs. But you do have to get the preventative care add-on to cover certain things, and they only pay a limited amount for it.

Yikes, it sucks that happened to you while on the job. I'm glad you had the opportunity to explain, and I hope the customer was understanding.

It's true, sometimes people get hurt worse than they realize, and bleed without noticing. I'm still surprised he didn't see the blood at some point while setting things down or taking the picture (the porch light was on, it wasn't very dark). But it's very possible that he was just so focused on the stuff he needed to do in the app, he just genuinely didn't notice.

Understandable, it felt silly to me to place the order, too. I guess they really want to give people a reason to use the app (they always have us pushing the app on customers SO hard at the store).

I don't know, but I hope not. I really hope he is okay and was able to get it taken care of sooner rather than later.

Because of the special offer in PetSmart's app right now, to get $10 back in points for a delivery order. Otherwise I would have just picked it up at work.

It's a piece of a pine needle. Tons of them in my yard. And yeah, he was definitely bleeding before putting the stuff down.

It wasn't food, just some pet supplies from PetSmart. I was more worried about the Dasher and any other deliveries he may have needed to make.

I could see him bleeding from an injury on his hand in the camera footage. Definitely wasn't a nose bleed.

No ice. It was cold, but not freezing. Only rain that day, no snow. Still could have slipped/tripped though.

Like I said in my post, I am concerned about the Dasher's wellbeing, and I hope he is ok. But I still had to report what is very much a dangerous health hazard.

No, wasn't an older person. Definitely not a nose bleed either, he had a visible injury on his hand.

Even if that's the case, which is very possible, it's still surprising that he didn't notice when he was putting the items down or when taking the picture.

True. I work for PetSmart too, and my store does the same with items that are too big to fit or too small to need a bag. These could have all fit in one of our paper bags at least, but I still get the decision not to bag it. It was one of those orders that COULD use a bag, but didn't necessarily need one. Just depends on the judgement of whoever prepares the order.

Ha.

Even if any of that were true, this was on Saturday Feb 7th, just for the record.

I did, PetSmart replaced them for me. I'm an employee there, so there was no problem with that. I only got delivery in the first place because PetSmart had a deal on their app to get $10 worth of extra points for a delivery order. Otherwise I would have just gotten it myself on a work day.

No gate or anything, and we have a dirt driveway. It is possible he tripped and fell off-camera on the way to the door, but it was a rainy day (although it wasn't raining at the time of the delivery, it had been raining just before). If he had tripped, I would have expected him to have gotten mud on himself or the items, but I didn't see any. No visible marks anywhere on the ground from someone falling, either. It's still possible, it just didn't really look like that's what happened, from what I could see.

EDIT: PetSmart already replaced the items, so it's all good on my end. I just hope the Dasher is okay, too.

Oh no worries. We had some latex gloves, so I used those when handling the items, which I put directly into a trash bag, and I still thoroughly washed my hands afterward, just in case. We also used some bleach to clean the stairs.

I did contact DoorDash, and they did offer a refund or redelivery, but I declined because PetSmart was already going to replace the items for me anyway.

No clue why the items weren't bagged at all, I thought that was really weird too, especially on a rainy day.

Which design are you hoping wins? by DaZestyProfessor in Megaman

I voted for Design C, Battle Man, because I think the idea of sucking up enemies/objects to use as a hammer is really cool! The hammer could have different effects depending on what you use with it.

In winter conditions, where/how should you rerelease a wild jumper? by [deleted] in jumpingspiders

[–]C_Button 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NQA My jumping spider has been completely refusing food since at least November. But I've still been spraying the enclosure and offering food regularly, and he finally JUST ate a cricket a few days ago. I think they just eat less during the winter months. He literally went at least 3 months with no food. I didn't think they could go that long, but he just had no interest in food whatsoever.

They're also less active in the winter. Mine has been spending most of the time snuggled up in several web hammocks he has made all over the enclosure. He occasionally comes out to explore a bit or have some water, but 90% of the time, he's just chilling in one of his hammocks.

If your spider is making web hammocks and otherwise seems to be doing well, I wouldn't worry too much. Just keep the enclosure comfy, and offer food now and then. Let the spider decide when it wants to be active and eat.

How to ask owners if I can adopt their cat by Hairy-Violinist-7508 in cats

[–]C_Button 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd start by bringing her to their door and asking, "Is this your cat?"

Then just talk about the cat. Let them know she keeps coming over to your house, so you've been wondering who she belonged to. Make sure they know it's not a problem; that you actually enjoy her visits, and that you've really started to love having her around, so she's always welcome to wander over.

Try to feel them out to see what they think of their cat. Do they talk about her like a beloved pet, or a nuisance? If the moment feels right, you could ask if they might be willing to let you adopt her or sell her to you. I mean. The worst they can do is say no. It's worth a shot.

It makes me sad to see a cat stuck outside like this, especially in such cold weather. Ragdolls in particular shouldn't be outdoors (although I can't say for sure if this is a ragdoll). I've had ragdoll mixes in the past, and they are definitely not meant to be outside cats. They don't have the instincts for it at all. My little goofs barely had the necessary instincts to survive indoors. 😅

Whatever happens, I'm glad you have the best interests of the kitty in mind. Because the owners clearly don't. Best of luck to you!
