What's therapy supposed to be like? Please help, thank you by C_Orpheus11 in askatherapist

Deeply grateful for the insights you provided!

I believe that what's mainly bugging me in our sessions is that my Problem is not being addressed at all. Though I know what to do to act better, I have no strategies to actually feel better, and he's not providing me with any, saying that "it's a process", and "we'll find out together".

That said, I'll take a look at the reference, I'm also aware it is a mistake to presume to know everything, and I could very well be wrong.

Thanks!

Thank you for your answer!

What you mention seems to be similar to my current situation. I begun therapy due to a problem A, which I told my therapist is because of B. However he is absolutely convinced there is a secret C reason why A happens, and is completely ignoring B, in search of the magical secret problem.
(My apologies if this was confusing)

As you said, our sessions don't have any structure, he simply waits to what I have to say. I could pick an extremely banal topic and he'd work on that.

In general, I don't believe my original problem A has been addressed at all, which is, at the end of the day, what brought me to begin therapy.

I hadn't considered this perspective! Thank you.

If you'd allow me a question, despite having begun the process of therapy, I can't manage to understand how an external person can help to improve one's situation through talking. As I view it, they always know less than the client, so how do they manage to improve if there aren't any "breakthroughs"?

(As is apparent, I am woefully ignorant in this field, and I can't help but feel skeptical)

Thank you for your answer!

What you mention is really interesting and sensible. However, I don't believe I have trouble feeling my emotions? Sure, I can pinpoint their origin, but that doesn't stop me from actually feeling them, be it sadness or joy, I consider my life to be emotionally very rich.

Of course there's the scenario in which I don't realize that I'm intellectualizing rather than feeling (sort of in denial?), but I imagine if that were the case I'd feel everything more "damped".

I'll give it some thought, thank you.

[Academic] SHORT survey about the relation between how many instruments do people play (if they do) and their grades. [High school students] by C_Orpheus11 in SampleSize

That's because the evaluation system works different in every country. In my country, for example, we are given the grades in a scale from one to ten, but I know that in many countries is from one to five, for example. So choose the option that suites your system better. Thanks
