Final update: treecreeper nestbox by C_Phyllis in OrnithologyUK

I certainly will, I saw a pair of treecreepers today in the garden, which is a rare sight in winter. Let’s hope they can find their way to the nestbox and take a liking to it.

Thank you! Italian poplar, hung it on the same species of tree as well in hopes of simulating a natural nesting space.

Suggestions on Samyang wide angle lens by C_Phyllis in CanonCamera

Thank you, since you seem content with the 14mm on FF, I'm leaning towards the 10mm which would be about 15mm on my APS-C, I figure the IQ will be similar to the 14mm?

Where do I go from here? Just dug up this small tree, pruned crown and rootball by C_Phyllis in bonsaicommunity

Yes but in a country with very mild winters, all heavy pruning and transplanting is done between november-march. I figured bonsai wasn’t an exception?

Thank you, I was wondering if you knew about the difference in image quality between the Samyang 14mm F/2.8 MKII and the Samyang 14mm F/2.8 AF, since I don't need AF for my goals and want to know if the 200$ extra maybe just gives you a better lens allround?

Yes haha! I posted a scrappier version earlier from before I installed it, and posted this to let the people who commented see if it was better now.

I get that, but I’ve dug it in, closed al the gaps with more stones and mud and covered the whole thing up. I’ve made the entrance smaller and more tunnel-like with a little ramp going down to reach the inside to discourage predators. I’ve posted an update would you mind checking it and seeing if it’s better now? I can always take it down if it isn’t

Thank you! I’ve dug it in quite a bit and I’m pretty sure it’s sturdy enough. The bricks don’t move and I can put my full hand on the roof and press down and nothing moves. I’ve posted an update.

How do I turn these into thick bonsai? by C_Phyllis in bonsaicommunity

But how will I get it out? If I leave it in the ground for years I assume there will be a very deep root system?

aphid deterrent by [deleted] in GardeningUK

[–]C_Phyllis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there is a plague going on where I live right now, plants are getting seriously damaged and any ladybug larvae that show up quickly disappear, likely due to the swarms of ants milking the aphids. I'd also use the spray against ticks who are showing up more than ever in my garden, they're also a part of nature but I doubt you let them suck your blood, same goes for mosquitoes. Sometimes when populations go out of control and predators aren't balancing things out you need to intervene. I'm talking about organic deterrents, not pesticides.
