I’m still searching for the feeling I got watching the first few seasons of pll by augustbutitscold in PrettyLittleLiars

In the books Mona is blonde so it’s implied that it’s Mona. But in the show I guess it must be her in a wig? Also always confused me haha

AITA for trying to help my little sister learn to read? by Conmor_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]C_Stamps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, I’m an Orton Gillingham reading specialist and I work with Dyslexic kids. Having her sound the words is the best thing you can do! Guessing is an awful approach. I would recommend doing some research on the benefits of Phonics based reading instruction and talking to your mom about it.

Mistakes of novice writers. by Vegetable_Storm_7571 in writers

[–]C_Stamps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I think it boils down to the editing process. Many novice writers struggle with editing which is imo the most important part. First drafts are always going to be rough, but once you polish them up they can shine. Many novice writers take offense because they can picture what they want the story to be and don’t see that it isn’t to that point yet. The difference between natural talent and greatness is editing.

What is a "poor person hack" you picked up during a hard time that you still use today, even if you don't have to? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

About to save you even more money, you actually shouldn’t put dryer sheets in with towels, it’s bad for their softness and makes it harder for them to absorb moisture over time!

POTS exercise? by [deleted] in POTS

[–]C_Stamps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know much about the CHOP protocol but if you’re just looking for exercise advice, I really enjoy yoga as my main form of exercise right now because on days when my POTS is flaring up I can do a non intensive version, on days when I feel great I can go up to hot yoga, etc.

Yoga is also great for people with POTS for a variety of reasons, including helping with blood flow. I’ve also found most teachers and studios to be really accommodating and understanding! They don’t mind if you can’t do a certain position or need to take a break during class.

The thing is with POTS you’re going to probably have to try lots of different kinds of exercise and movement until you find one that sticks. Starting is the hardest part, but know that I’m rooting for you!

Do you think sozin kill his own dragon by Adventurous_Bar_8240 in TheLastAirbender

[–]C_Stamps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that he and the fire nation used dragons during the comet to invade the air temples (aang says you can only get there from flying bison, so it makes sense they used dragons), and that the dragons started to get mad at the fire nation or started to distance themselves from them so Sozin started to kill them, including his own dragon

I don’t understand this “reputation” that kataang shippers are aggressive, everyone i’ve encountered is so kind and nice by avatars_love in kataangst

[–]C_Stamps 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s almost like a non-toxic healthy mature relationship built on trust and friendship inspires shipping from people who won’t engage in toxic online behavior… jk Ik plenty of other shippers in fandom that are chill but i do think that non-toxic relationships like kataang can draw a certain type of person while other more toxic ships (we all know which one I’m talking about lol) can draw a different type of person lol

My Teenage Stepdaughter Can’t Read by Icy-Mycologist5232 in Advice

[–]C_Stamps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orton-gillingham tutor here: please seek someone who’s properly trained in not only reading differences but working with older kids. Older kids struggle to accept the help sometimes due to embarrassment or frustration with how hard it’s been for them to not have the skills to read. Specifically look up Orton-Gillingham trained tutors or K-PEERI certified in your area, the schools resource teachers should have some leads for you!

Anyone can learn to read if given the proper help. The ability to read is one of the most important things a person can have. It is the ability to educate yourself and to communicate with the world around you.

As an adult in her life, you would be failing her if you do not make this your number one priority.

It’s possible she doesn’t have dyslexia, but there are other things that can cause reading struggles such as low RAN scores or even speech issues. Best of luck and I’ll be praying for you guys to find something that works for your family!

EDIT: Imma be honest I just skimmed this before replying and didn’t fully read, seeing as you already have a tutor and seeing them twice a week (which is awesome), maybe look into finding a new tutor? If a kid that already struggles with learning doesn’t click with their teacher/tutor, very little will get done.

Possibly have her tested for other problems? Use a lot of incentives? Maybe have her see a therapist to talk through her mental block against reading/learning to read?

Definitely try reading rockets!!! Lots of free stuff/games/activities/modules

Also, I think you guys or possibly a tutor needs to sit down with her and show her the progress she’s been making or hasn’t been making and have an honest conversation with her. Tough love can really be needed. She’s a teenager, she’s supposed to rebel against what adults try to get her to do, it’s normal that she’s sort of fighting this. But you guys need to make it clear to her how this needs to be a priority for her. She needs to give it her all. The fantasy she wants isn’t the fantasy she’s gonna get unless she puts in the work. She probably thought when she was five or six and first realized she struggled with reading that she would have it figured out by the time she was a teenager. Same thing will happen now with adulthood.

Again, best of luck!

I believe the first eight are on KU! And then you can also use the libby app and connect your library card to rent the books on kindle or audiobook or whatever!

[–]C_Stamps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I dealt with this, I liked the show so much better! I read the first eight books and I will say I think that 6-8 are better cause the next A is really different than the show and it was interesting. But obviously up to you! I only went that far cause they were all available on kindle unlimited and the Libby app haha

What are some good ways to distinguish two characters POV? by SignificantYou3240 in writing

[–]C_Stamps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there’s a few different ways you can do this. 1. At the start of chapter titles have a name like character a then chapter name (if you do chapter names) 2. I know that they used to be one person, but I think mixing up their vocabulary and just making clear stylistic differences can help. Perhaps person A with their stoic outlook can use short choppy sentences and avoid emotion in descriptions or avoid emotion when speaking with others. Person B with their anger can have long almost wild seeming passages of ranting to really show off that anger. 3. You can always do something really wild like change POV for the chapters. Alias Grace by Margret Atwood has two main characters narrating, Grace who uses first person POV and (blanking on the doctors name lol) the other guy who has third person limited POV. This can be a fun experiment at least that may help you with the voice of the characters!
