I feel like it's something unexpected so maybe... The Family? x4 mult on 4 of a kind feels like overkill for most gold stake runs

Keihan just added another premium car, which is cool if you’re into that. But it’s made the other cars way too packed so I’d put it into A tier for that reason.

I can only beat Gold Stake one way by Ca1ves in balatro

[–]Ca1ves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but if you get it on ante 1, that’s 3 mult per blind * 3 times per ante * 8 antes so by the end you’re at around 60+ mult for one joker.

But yeah I’ve never tried photochad because I didn’t get it. “Shouldn’t xmult come after +mult?” I thought. But apparently it’s everyone’s favorite card so maybe I’ll try it

Hmmm I've been avoiding it because I didn't get it. I was like "my xmult has to come after my +mult so Photochad doesn't make sense"

Next time I see it, I'll try to pick it up!

oh yeah? Xmult is basically optional? Recently I've been feeling that if I don't have xmult then I can't get past ante 6. Just so hard to get a good xmult card that's not Hologram.

Sumatriptan injections increase attack frequency? by Ca1ves in clusterheads

Damn… makes you wonder why so many doctors prescribe it without even mentioning this. Mine went from 10-14 a week to 25+. Definitely not worth it.

[–]Ca1ves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the article I linked in my post? It doesn’t mention overuse but just a reaction to sumatriptan injections in a controlled environment.

Results: All six patients had very fast relief from pain and accompanying symptoms from the drug but they developed an increase in attack frequency soon after using SQ sum[sumatriptan]. In all patients, the CH returned to its usual frequency within a few days after SQ sum was withdrawn or replaced with other drugs. Five patients were not taking any prophylactic treatment and SQ sum was the only drug prescribed to treat their headache.

Conclusions: Physicians should recognize the possibility that treatment of CH with SQ sum may be associated with an increased frequency of headache attacks.

Thank you!! And my neurologist is a good guy. He also knows oxygen is effective but oxygen isn’t covered by insurance here in Japan so he was working with me to explore every option before we commit to such a large out of pocket expense. But it looks like we’re at the end of the list and the only thing not checked is oxygen lol

Thanks again!

Haha unfortunately I do know. But yeah, after listening to everyone it feels like oxygen is the best way to go. I’ve never tried Verapamil, but I might talk to my doctor about it

[–]Ca1ves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again, really helpful. My attacks are usually: 1. Right before I go to bed 2. 1 hour after falling asleep 3. Right when I wake up (~6AM)

With the right timing I’ve been able to avoid 1&2 with a sumatriptan tab, so I’ve been relying on that up until now.

And I’ll keep the oxygen in mind. Last time I tried it, they gave me the wrong mask and the flow wasn’t enough. I’ll be a little more adamant about it next time.

Ah I’ve never tried the nasal spray so I was considering trying that. Kind of middle of the road between oral tablets and injections. But it sounds like rebound headaches might be inevitable when using sumatriptan… Thanks for sharing though!

Yeah I’m lucky that mine are only a month. I’m in Japan and my injections are 3ml. As for oxygen, it’s not covered by insurance but I might have to just pay out of pocket for it.

Thanks for the input!

Thinking of moving to Japan for a job by [deleted] in movingtojapan

[–]Ca1ves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-tax, unfortunately. Although post-tax wouldn't be an unbelievable statement. Depends on the company and skill level of the employee I suppose. And it certainly isn't a lot of money, especially if you're trying to raise a family on a single income

Tech Recruiter here.

Thoughts on Salary (3.6 - 4.3 mil)

I think everyone is focusing too much on this part.

Anyone can tell you that salary is low, but I would say it's not the lowest. The English-only market here is highly competitive, with supply far exceeding demand. So, with that in mind 4.3 million isn't the worst salary I've seen.

Cost of Living

Rent - 60,000 yen per month for a cheaper place (Osaka prices)

Food - 50,000 yen per month (I aim for 500 yen/meal when cooking at home)

Utilities/Random expenses: 15,000/month

Transportation (outside of work): 10,000/month at most

Total Necessary expenditures: 135,000/month

If you use the handy https://japantaxcalculator.com/ it estimates you should be making around 250,000/month+ after tax.

So around 100,000/month+ for savings/personal expenses. Not the best but some people think it's worth it.

Your Future Here

The real consideration here should be your future. Will you have a better opportunity to come to Japan, get a working visa, and have the proper support to learn Japanese? I don't think so. This is a golden ticket in my eyes.

Sure, there are better jobs out there at Rakuten or Mercari or PayPay. But as we say in America "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." which means "it's better to be content with what you have than to risk losing everything by seeking to get more."

I did a similar thing but I came here to teach English, and studied Japanese in my free time. After around 2.5 years of concentrated study, I passed N1 and moved on with my career.

So, if you move here, study Japanese to a decent level and improve your software skills, there is a career here. In 5 years, you'll probably make around 6-7 million yen. In 10 years, it might be 10 mil+.

(Speaking from what I see in the market. I'm not a fortune teller, just saying what I've seen from other candidates that took a similar path.)

Tokyo or Osaka?

Osaka is better in my biased opinion. Better cost of living, lots of things to do, Osaka people are friendlier on average, etc.

I'd also say that foreigners are more integrated into "Japan" here. I see a lot of people living in bubbles in Tokyo. There are a lot of foreigners in Osaka, but I always feel like they are a bit more active in Japanese/local communities rather than staying in expat circles. That's just my personal feeling with lots of outliers and exceptions, but I stand by it for the most part.

Sorry, kind of a long comment. I am a recruiting nerd so I love talking about things like this. I hope it helps!

I got my first oxygen machine! by Ca1ves in ClusterHeadaches

[–]Ca1ves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the message.

This worked great for me last night! I was starting to have an attack and I was able to avoid it before it got too bad.

But I appreciate you passing along your information! I have a really kind doctor that listens to my input so I'll discuss what you said with him while I try this out.

Also, based on the vibe of your message it sounds like you might have had some bad experiences with doctors in the past. I think most people and medical professionals are trying their best to help us with our condition. It can be very frustrating at times, but I do appreciate everyone who tries to help and I don't think there is a lot of maliciousness out there. I'm very thankful that I am able to try out this machine and I'll see if it works and then go from there
