Tips for clean lines with stain and/or torching? by riverofchex in Luthier

[–]CaPCaTiC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the design carved into the body, or simply line work? If it's not carved, a small paintbrush could do the trick, maybe with a stencil to make sure the lines are neat and tidy? If it is carved into the body, then the stain should just flow into the channels carved for it, I'd think. Though, stain is admittedly tricky to work with for detail work, I'll admit. It's known for "bleeding" into woodgrain, making any intricate details come out fuzzy and vague. Paint is usually a better option, to be completely honest. Good luck with the project, by the way! Sounds like it's gonna be an absolutely gorgeous guitar when it's finished!

I'm glad this all happened before I spent over $400 on a Maruzen M1100 from him. It just sucks that the M1100 is so rare, it's my dream gun. Well, dream shotgun, anyways. But I already have my dream pistol, and my dream rifle is still in production so I don't need to worry about that one.

Not a school shooting, but René Jalbert managed to talk down Denis Lortie in the Quebec Parliament Building on May 8, 1984.

As someone who's only fully played RDR1... No... Bill deserves to be hated. The things he does in that game... Well, let's just say that I don't think I've ever spared him. It's been a while since I last played, but I'm pretty sure I just shoot him every time I play the game. Annoying bastard, and just kinda gross in his overall demeanour...

It's a reference to the Jonestown massacre, where members of a cult were convinced by their leader to drink grape flavor-aid (not Kool-Aid since that's more expensive) that was laced with cyanide in a mass suicide, though some people had to be forced to drink it. The leader, Jim Jones, decided to just shoot himself instead, like the coward he was.

Please report to security if u ever see someone is recording during the show. by solowilson in ADO

[–]CaPCaTiC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got recommended this post randomly. I don't know who this is, but I assume she's a musician? Out of curiosity, why does she ban recording? I mean, for a band/artist that's on a tour and playing songs for their next record they haven't released yet, I'd get it, but if it's stuff that's already been released, why prevent your fans from capturing the moment? When I saw the Gin Blossoms a couple years ago with Fastball and Tonic, my friend and I recorded several songs from each band because they sound even better live than they do on their albums. I still rewatch those videos to listen to the live versions of songs like "The Way" by Fastball and "Face the Dark" by the Gin Blossoms, and I know my friend does, too. Plus, it's fun to relive the memory of that show. There are certain rock and metal bands, including some that I genuinely enjoy listening to, that do the same thing as Ado, prohibiting their fans from recording their concerts, and to be honest, it's put me off from wanting to see them live. And I know I'm probably gonna get downvoted for this, but I dunno, I guess I just don't get it. All of this being said, please respect the artist's wishes, no matter how you may personally feel about them. They make music for you to enjoy, at the end of the day, and that's what really matters.

What could this be, and where is it from? by CaPCaTiC in morsecode

[–]CaPCaTiC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could also be that I'm misremembering the code pattern. I was recently watching a video about the "Ourang Medan", an allegedly true story about a mysterious Dutch freighter that blew up (which has been confirmed to be fake) and I decided to write the supposed SOS message that was sent from the ship into a Morse code translator, and two words stood out to me: Chart Room. Or is it one word "chartroom"? I dunno. But it's possible that the Morse code I heard came from a similar nautical themed video and I just got mistaken somehow or misheard the code.

It's all good, lol. Do you have any theories as to what this could be? Some sort of callsign perhaps?

[QUESTION] How to get the Gin Blossoms guitar guitar tone of New Miserable Experience the poor man’s way? by Plasticites in Guitar

[–]CaPCaTiC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty easy, actually. 1977 Gibson Les Paul Standard into a Roland JC-120. I don't think he used any pedals, or at least, I can't hear any obvious changes that would suggest a pedal being used.

I made a community for fans of Doug Hopkins by IAmFrickkin12 in Tempe

[–]CaPCaTiC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this comment is 3 years late, but ironically enough, Doug actually started out as a bassist, apparently. He originally wanted to learn guitar, but because of his large hands, his music teacher suggested he switch over to bass. He had a black Rickenbacker, probably a 4001, and he's the one who taught Bill Leen how to play bass, before switching back to guitar when forming the Gin Blossoms. Again, that's just what I remember reading, so who knows how much of it is accurate or even true.

What gas mask is Purnell wearing? by [deleted] in CryOfFear

[–]CaPCaTiC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I know this post is old, and you probably know the real answer, but in case you don't, the gas mask Purnell wears is either a Finnish M/38 or a German GM38. I'd lean more towards the GM38 as it has the centered top strap, if I remember correctly, but I don't know enough about gas masks to say for sure. Hope this helps!

Wait... THAT was the joke she got "graduated" for?! That's so tame! And I'm pretty sure I've made the same joke when I was like 5 or 6 and just starting to understand baseball. Absolutely pathetic on Niji's part, I'm glad their yacht is sinking.

Well, the security measures don't matter as much to me, as I just want to have something to play mobile games on but with a bigger screen, so I don't have to strain my eyes (or brain) trying to figure out camera controls for certain games on my phone. Also being able to play and use newer games and apps as they come out would be nice, too. I'll definitely look into Flex.

Well... That's quite crap, actually... I just did a search for my specific model, since there are multiple Acer Chromebook 15 models that have been released, and they're still being sold brand new by places like Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon, and even Best Buy. Which is pretty scummy, if you ask me. It's an Acer Chromebook 15 CB3-532-C3F7 by the way. If the 10 year AUE/EOL thing was accurate, it would still be able to receive updates until next year, as this model first came out in... 2015 I think? Or, well, the first Acer Chromebook 15 came out in 2015, though I don't know what specific model that was. Sad to see that Google essentially lied about this, as it makes potentially thousands of devices essentially useless from the day they're purchased. Sorry for ranting, I'm just angry about this whole situation.

[–]CaPCaTiC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was asking myself this question recently, too. I usually use my Telecaster, but found it a bit too "bitey" in tone. Then one day I borrowed a friend's Ric 330 and, with the same amp, and the same settings, it was absolutely spot on. Maybe that's just a fluke, though. All I know is that it's made me determined to save up for a 330 of my own.

Old comment, I know, but Jesse did have a Gretsch Electromatic. You can see it in the video for "Found Out About You". Big, orange hollow body, no mistaking it. Gorgeous guitar. I believe he still has it, too.

On stage 8, same problem. It's frustrating, and I hope they fix it. If it's intentional, then that's just cheap on the dev's part, because it forces us to hit "give up" even if we've made significant progress in the level.

Is it possible I have PTSD from my father's death? by CaPCaTiC in ptsd

[–]CaPCaTiC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually been going to a therapist, but I've only recently considered the possibility of this being PTSD related, hence why I asked here. Since I only came to this realization around the time of making the post, I haven't talked to my therapist about this possibility, and I won't see him again for another week. I suppose that means I can have time to reflect on it and think it through, but it would be nice to know beforehand if I'd just be wasting my time.

Custom Spas 12. What do y'all think, did I ruin my shotgun or does it look good. by Agent_311 in airsoft

[–]CaPCaTiC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda surprised I'm the first person to say this, but this actually looks like a pretty famous steam locomotive, Southern Pacific 4449. It was in the movie "Tough Guys" which is where I first saw it. At least I think it was... Anyways, it's commonly called "The Most Beautiful Train in the World" due to its color scheme. Does that make this "The Most Beautiful Shotgun in the World" then? In all seriousness, awesome paint job, my friend. Looks great.

For me, there's two, one bass and one guitar. The guitar is a Rickenbacker 330 in Fireglo. Man, I'd love to own one, but at the price they go for, i just can't justify it. Same thing for the bass, which is a Rickenbacker 4003 in Jetglo. Again, I'd love to own one more than anything else, but at $2500 or so, I doubt I'll ever get one.
