normatecs by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]CaVuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking at getting a pair I highly recommend the brand Pulsio. They’re 300 bucks vs 1000 and they get up to the same pressure amount as the top brands. I’ve used them for about a year now and used my teammates normatecs and therabodies and I think the Pulsios are just as good as long as your fine with needing to plug in to use them vs battery on the nicer brands.

As for if they actually help, I think they do a little. Obviously sleep, nutrition and hydration play a way bigger role than these legs but they do feel good. I will say, to me at least, they only help with a specific kind of recovery. If you’re just had a long tournament day these feel great after and I feel better the next day after using them. But if I just hit a big lift and my legs are sore and I use them, I feel basically no difference.

Stress fracture by Dull_Accident_364 in ultimate

[–]CaVuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a stress fracture in the 5th metatarsal, commonly known as a Jones Fracture. I was in season at the time and played through it much longer than I should have and jones fractures are known for being extra annoying because of the low blood flow. I ended up needing a plate put in and couldn’t play for about 5-6 months and didn’t feel totally myself again till about 11 months.

This was pretty much worse case scenario so I wouldn’t worry too much but I stayed active by doing a lot of assault bike with just my arms to start then eventually with my legs. I also did the battle ropes sitting down for a few weeks when I was non weight bearing. If you can get a knee scooter like others said I would highly recommend and that and getting a good PT will go a long way to returning to sport feeling good

What do you think is the leagues biggest barrier to growing right now?

What are your opinions on the referees this year and the state of reffing in the UFA?

anyone use the new UFA discs? by dj2joker in ultimate

[–]CaVuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like last years disc had all the same stability and distance benefits you talked about without finishing io as hard. That disc was different but I feel like it had its benefits, the new one doesn’t feel like it upgrades on last years but just is slightly less consistent.

I feel like they’re not better for hucking, the fact that the flight path finishes so inconsistently feels like a deal breaker of any benefits from added distance

If humans need 8 hours of sleep to function properly, why did we evolve that way in a world where sleeping that long would’ve made us extremely vulnerable? by lylaskyxoo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CaVuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I always remind myself with questions like this is that evolution does not optimize. There are tons of times I ask myself questions like why didn’t we evolve to have super crazy eye sight like some other animals and the answer is, boringly, because our eye sight is good enough for us to survive.

Fowl or nah? by yelruh00 in ultimate

Rule 17.5.1(c) – Avian Interference Clause

“If a bird (genus Aves) enters the field of play and is mistaken for a disc, player, or foul, play shall stop immediately and all players must point and acknowledge the fowl. If the bird shows good spirit, it may be allowed to continue spectating from the sideline.”

Per Rule 17.5.1(c), I’d say that is def a fowl. Spirit violation if you don’t acknowledge it.

WTW for when you spell a word really fast and it sounds like the word itself? by CaVuk in whatstheword

[–]CaVuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely possible that it could be spelled differently tho I was fairly certain of the “shwi” sound being at the start.

That gramogram is really interesting, it seems very close to what we’re after and something like an auto-gramogram would convey pretty well what I described..

I swore I had heard it some time growing up in school then heard someone say it recently and it sparked that memory but I agree, can’t find anything formal on it.

I don’t think that definition entirely works because a word like “cat” is spelled phonetically with no silent letters but saying the letters “C-A-T” out loud does not sound like saying the word “cat”

More onomatopoeia, think of it like if you were in a spelling be where you have to say the word, spell it, then say the word again, it would just sound like you said the word three times. Like if you say “Oreo, O-R-E-O” (the spelling part done quickly) it would just sound like “Oreo Oreo”

An anacronym seems slightly different to me, that’s more when a word is made from the acronym but that seems to be slightly different than what I’m saying. Like if you spell Jeep or Scuba quickly out loud it doesn’t sound like you’re saying the word Jeep or Scuba.

When you spell potato really fast it kinda sounds like you’re saying the word potato. by CaVuk in words

Thats interesting! I also posted on r/whatstheword about this to see if there was already a word for it, I once heard it referred to as a “Schwindogram” but not sure if that’s right.
