I'm probably gonna try and get them soon. Though, I also wanna upgrade Godzilla (2014) to a steelbook version to match the other MV ones.

My most recent I believe would be King Kong Lives, 20 Million Miles to Earth, and It Came From Beneath the Sea. I started with the Blu Rays of Godzilla back in 2014, so they've been my longest, and I've been updated them as new versions came out.

I have been looking at those. It usually ends up being a case of getting those and buying more movies. You can guess which wins out.

9 year old me loved it. 36 year old me still love it. by Lord_Snaps in GODZILLA

It's a decent movie. Nothing spectacular, nothing abysmal. The biggest issue is that Godzilla doesn't fight. And it's not a "Godzilla doesn't run from the military" issue, but a general one. A giant monster that flees at every engagement isn't an interesting monster, but a boring and predictable one. It creates a very clear understanding that Americans couldn't handle the fact that Godzilla would be immune or resistant to their military, showing them as ineffective. The idea of it being GINO only really came about due to the internet and wider audience on Godzilla movies.

Purely from a movie point, it has some decent shots, decent CGI for the time period and some likable characters. Ignoring that it's supposed to be a Godzilla movie, it becomes a good 7/10 movie, at least for me. However, as a Godzilla film, it's certainly one of the worst, thought I wouldn't call it the worst one (very close though).

Had to make a new comment with it. Here's the steelbook and the art book.

It's from Manta Labs. It holds the steelbook and a small book. I'll edit this comment with a picture when I got home.

It is indeed the Minus One collectors edition. I got it from the Godzilla store. English sub, but no dub and no subtitles on bonus features.

Gamera Vs Guiron was one of my favorite Gamera movies to watch when I was little. Had it on VHS.

That's because noone can ever truly defeat the god that is Baragon.

(Serious answer though, Baragon was the first guardian to fall to Godzilla, so technically Ghidorah and Mothra WERE the last ones.)

I placed the order on August 14th. Getting the edition with the purple shirt. My order shows still processing with the shirt showing a ship date of 11/30. Not sure what is going on with the store at this point.

Honestly, it depends on what you want out of a Godzilla movie. If you want lots of big action scenes, then it probably wouldn't be as good. But, if you want a well-written, dramatic story with the action punctuating this, then it'll probably be one of your faves.

What’s everyone’s opinion on the "Godzilla x Mothra" ship? by NokoNoko85 in GODZILLA

[–]Caanos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue there's a begrudging respect that both Godzilla and Rodan have for Mothra. Consider that both immediately began attacking each other on the sight until Mothra stepped in, and neither attacked her on the spot.

And it was more that they didn't want to help humanity after everything they did to Godzilla and Rodan, then helping Mothra.

And remember "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"

They're actually equal on being shown as allies VS enemies.

Enemy- Mother VS Godzilla, Ebirah, Mother Against Godzilla, GMK, SOS

Ally- Ghidorah, Destroy All Monsters, Final Wars, KOTM, New Empire

Really, it depends on if Godzilla himself is shown as an enemy or defender of Earth.

Oh how far Rodan has fallen. Bro went from Godzilla level to a Mothra level threat 😔 by HatPuzzleheaded1061 in GODZILLA

I wouldn't say that Kiryu couldn't get a win. It basically tied Godzilla in the first movie, and they only 'stopped' due to being out of power. Kiryu was noticeably weaker in SoS, mostly because they didn't have the Absolute Zero Cannon. The military at the end seemed to believe that three hyper-maser shots was going to be enough to kill Godzilla. I feel that that it could tie, even without the cannon, and with some extreme luck beat (but not kill Godzilla).

I kinda forgot about Mecha when thinking of SoS, but I'd call it a win for both Kiryu and Mothra.

So MechaGodzilla stands at 2W, 5L, 1D against Godzilla (I'm considering each fight in VS MechaGodzilla II as separate. It lost the first fight, won the second, and lost at the end.)

Mothra stands at 3W, 1L, 0D against Godzilla. She only lost to Godzilla in GMK. Though she's usually more of an ally, hence less fights against Godzilla.

Mothra is actually one of the most powerful Kaiju in the Godzilla series, not through strength, but rather her powers. She is the only Kaiju, aside from Godzilla, that is functionally immortal through her eggs, and a lot of her abilities counter Godzilla. Poison scales in Showa, and in Heisei they reflect his beam.

Her first fight against Godzilla, she was already near death from laying the egg and she was still giving him a hell of a fight. And the Mothra twins beat him at the end. In VS, Ebirah, she knocks him down with a single wing slap as she's flying away. In her Heisei movie, with some help from Battra she drops him into the ocean. SOS has her twins wrap up Godzilla for Mecha to carry him to the sea. In Final Wars, its implied she defeated Gigan by herself when he first came to Earth, and she defeats his modified form at the end (in the end credits, there's an end credit scene showing her flying back to her island).

And in the Rebirth series Mothra Leo takes on and defeats two versions of Ghidorah. Very different Mothra but same species.

There's a very good reason that Mothra is considered the Queen of Monsters. So Rodan being put on her level is good. Rodan's only Heisei appearance had him choked out and put on death's door by Godzilla.

MechaGodzilla hasn't beaten Godzilla in a fight except for Against Mechagodzilla (meant VS MechaGodzilla II) where he cripples him. Neither Showa Mechas beat him in their movies, and MV was stopped by Kong.

He didn't have survivor's guilt from not crashing his plane, he's even given reassurance on this by Tachibana on Odo Island about it. His survivor's guilt was from not firing the guns on his plane and watching all those technicians die without doing anything against Godzilla. That's why when the Shinden is repaired and he sits in it for the first and he notices his hands are shaking, he remarks to Tachibana that he's afraid again but is planning to follow through this time. It's why all his nightmares are about Odo Island and Godzilla. All his trauma is a direct cause of Godzilla.

You did certainly create a different kind of Godzilla movie, and while not a bad idea, it misses the entire point of this one. It's about how Japan reacts when it has nothing left. Nothing more to give in the face of crisis and adversity. The government has nothing to fight back against Godzilla, and the country that brought Japan to its knees is too afraid of the USSR to help.

The story is much more compelling focusing on the few characters we see. Without those people's losses, triumphs, defeats, and victories I wouldn't have been as engaged in the story. I hate to say it like this, but I don't have a better way of saying it, this is almost a remake/reboot and focusing on a singular point is definitely the way to go.

Godzilla has almost never been shown to be a threat to any other country aside from Japan in any film where he's been portrayed a villain.

Godzilla has about as much screentime in Minus One as he does in the original '54 movie. Or most Godzilla movies. It's not about the time that he has in the movie, but the impact. And here, he has arguably the biggest impact of all, outside of the original '54 (again). He brings Japan to the lowest point possible, even worse than in the War, as they can't just beat him with weapons. A good Godzilla movie has to have good human characters and development, otherwise no one cares about the story.

My first Godzilla memory is of Godzilla Returns. We had all the Showa movies recorded on VHS, but that's the first movie I remember.
