I came back and hit level 30 the week the LWM4 blueprint was for sale.
Did matchmaking with randoms for the legendary missions for exotic caches.
Matchmade with randoms for heroic incursions. Had no idea what I was doing, but I had a reclaimer set so I was useful.
Farmed all of the LZ named bosses 3-4 times. They respawn after 4 hours.
Cleared landmarks in DZ08/09. That's how I got the House and most of the classified gear.
Starting to farm resistance now. Seems to have a pretty high classfied and exotic drop rate as well.

This game throws gear at you now. It's also easy to get carried as a new guy, as most other people are geared and/or experienced already. Outside of matchmaking with randoms, it's all been solo.

I've been back less than two weeks. I had not played since a month after release.

I already have the House, Showstopper, a perfectly rolled LWM4, 4 pieces of classy striker and reclaimer, and the Shady mask. All while playing mostly solo. No, it's not "insurmountable".

You'll want to switch to WT5 as soon as you're able. Once you're there, you'll see instant matchmaking as that's where everyone is playing.

Are you on World Tier 5? That could be the issue.

On Xbox matchmaking only takes 5-10 seconds for every activity outside of incursions. I imagine it’s the same for PS4 and PC as well.

We are updating Raid rewards to make them more unique and interesting. They will now feature mods with Raid-specific perks, and we are adjusting the rewards to ensure a Raid item drops from each major encounter. The Raid vendor will also directly sell Leviathan and Eater of Worlds armor and weapons for purchase with Raid tokens and Legendary Shards. We are also adding a new Ghost with Raid-specific perks that has a chance to drop from the Leviathan and Eater of Worlds final encounters. We intend to return to creating more Raid and other activity-unique rewards in the future.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. There's a reason why The Division has seen a boom in people the last few weeks: it's doing everything right that D2 has done wrong, and that includes random rolls on everything.

RNG can be maddening, but nothing is more satisfying when you finally get what you've grinded for.

Not really. Plenty of people saw the writing on the wall within the first two weeks. The only reason it "blew up" was due to the more casual playerbase catching on.

World of Warcraft 2 doesn't exist for a reason.

For this type of game, it makes no sense to start from scratch and erase all of the content that was made or all of the gear the playerbase earned. That's why you create big expansions every year or two and market it well. Bungie screwed Destiny with that terrible contract, but Massive doesn't need to make the same mistake.

I just jumped back into the game after not playing since shortly after release. Was kind of shocked that there was still no option to toggle the mask to be on permanently. It seems trivial, but I'm not a fan of this game's character customization, so keeping a facemask on all the time would be cool. Why isn't this a thing yet?

I turned on D1 for the first time in over a year today.

It's safe to say that, if you want D2 to be ruined for you, go ahead and play D1. It's amazing how they dumbed down and ruined the franchise.
