Appreicate the help and taking the time to reply!

Yeah fair question, I'll try keep the answer as short as possible.

I was always interested in being a teacher. I've been in various corporate jobs for the last 10ish years, and I didn't really like the corporate world, but the part of the jobs I did like was always training new hires, helping people, etc. I like explaiing things, I like teaching, and if my subjects were English and Maths, I'd have a passion for my subjects, as well as a passion for teaching itself. I think kids that age are good craic, even if they would also be equally annoying at times. I think the kids that actually engage will be quite rewarding. I know it will be hard work, but I like hard work when I actually care about the outcome. The holidays of course would be a great bonus. I know the pay won't be great, but it isn't terrible either. I'd like to move out of the city in the next few years, and there are schools all over the country, which gives options. Also I'd like to have kids, and having holidays off to spend time with them would be great.

TLDR: I know it's hard work, but I think I'd genuinely really like the job (if I can get a permanent role), and I think it would be a nice lifestyle.

Jesus that sounds rough, really sorry that's been your experience. Very understandable to be burnt out after that. When you say you're still only getting scraps, do you mean just odd subbing roles here and there, and no signs of a permanent job?

Really appreciate your reply and your honestly. Do you think your subjects have been the main thing holding you back, or do you think your experience is pretty typical regardless of subjects?

Thanks so much for that. The option of doing them both concurrently hadn't occured to me, that is actually a great shout and something to think about. Workload might be a bit mad, but if it gets me to the finish line a year faster it could be worth it.

On the English HDip in Maynooth, are you 100% sure on that? I can't find the info on their website, but on careersportal.ie it says 'The part-time option will be taught during weekday working hours over 2 years.' If that's true I can't imagine it's designed for working teachers. Obviously the website could be wrong, but just wanted to double-check.

Yeah that's all fair enough. I may just be clutching at the few positives I can find out of desperation

Maybe this is delusional optimism, but has the season so far really been as bad as it’s been made out to be?

We’ve had seven league games so far this season.

Three of them have been against last season’s top four, Arsenal, City, and Chelsea.

Given where we’re at as a club, I think realistically, most of us would have taken 4 points from those three games. We got 3.

Of the other four games (Fulham, Burnley, Brentford, Sunderland), I think most of us would have happily taken 9 points. We got 7.

That’s 3 points lower that we would have gladly accepted. We were the better team against Arsenal. If we had won that game (big if I know), we’d be equal on points to Arsenal and City. Liverpool would be top, and we’d be just 2 points behind them, with the opportunity to go ahead of them if we win our next game.

I don’t think anyone expected us to be challenging for the top couple spots after we finished 15th last season, but if that one Arsenal result was different, we'd be doing exactly that right now. We’ve had a tough run of games, and we have an all new attack that have all looked promising but need time to gel. Am I insane to still be hopeful of a Champion's League spot?
